Fundamentals of Project Management (12 PDUs)

This 12-hour course focuses on project management concepts; tools and techniques used in a project management environment; and basic skills required to effectively manage a project and project team. Project Management: Practical Application (36 PDUs) Prerequisite: Successful completion of “Fundamentals of Project Management” or equivalent training. This requirement is waived for those with PMP certification or evidence of a college level project management course.

This 36-hour course focuses on practical application of all project management processes: project integration, scope management, time management, cost management, quality management, human resource management, communications management, risk management and procurement management. It also explores the following in detail:

• Scope change control • Earned value analysis • Network flow diagramming • Critical path analysis and management • Team development • Risk response planning Who Should Attend:

PMP® Exam Facilitated Study

This 36-hour course focuses on the PMI’s A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) and specific exam preparation tactics. PDUs are not offered; however, completion counts toward the PMP exam eligibility criteria.

PMP® Exam Preparation Boot Camp Offered as demand arises.

Professional’s Certificate in Program Management NEW! Prerequisite: An active PMP® certification; or Certificate in Project Management from UofL; or the professional experience necessary to sit for the PgMP credential. (Visit www.pmi.org for details.)

This fast-paced, 16-hour course is for those who have met the minimum eligibility requirements to sit for the PMP exam and are scheduled to sit for the exam within 1-5 days following completion of this course. It focuses on the quantitative portions of the exam, offers study tactics, and prepares students for the exam. No PDUs are offered; however, completion counts toward the PMP exam eligibility criteria. The Program Management Professional (PgMP®) is one of the latest of PMI’s growing list of credentials. The role of a program manager typically encompasses:

• Defining and initiating projects • Assigning and directing project managers • Overseeing programs • Modifying programs to better achieve strategic objectives • Keeping strategic goals at the forefront of all project activities • Prioritizing and integrating competing initiatives PMI’s Standard for Program Management is the foundation of this new course which covers, in detail, the program management life cycle, program management process groups, and knowledge areas in the Standard for Program Management. Following completion, you will have mastered the three basic tenets of program management: benefit management, stakeholder management, and program governance. You’ll leave with 24 PDUs and a Certificate in Program Management from UofL. OFFERED UPON REQUEST… Project Management: An Executive Summary Available upon request at no cost to your organization. Estimated length of program: 1.0-1.5 hours. This complimentary session is recommended for decision makers at the executive, director or VP level who allocate resources. Participants will discover how structured project management can increase the probability of project success and save your organization time and money.

Understanding Project Management Processes This course is available upon request and is recommended for employees who have responsibility for project completion—from project sponsors to project managers to project team members. Estimated Length of Program: 5 hours. Fee is based on level of customization desired, length of program, and number of participants. Learn from practitioners with a combined 60 years of project management experience! Chuck Milhollan, PMP, PgMP, is director of program management for Churchill Downs. He has over 25 years of experience in personnel and project management. He holds an MBA from the University of South Florida and a MS in project management from the University of Wisconsin. His certifications include Project Management Professional (PMP) and Program Management Professional (PgMP) through the Project Management Institute; Certified Six Sigma Black Belt, Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMW/OE) and Certified Software Quality Engineer (CSQE) through the American Association for Quality; Certified Managed Healthcare Professional (MHP) through the Health Insurance Association of America; and IT Service Management Foundations Certificate. Chuck teaches project management, quality management, operations management, and critical thinking courses for several universities.

Gary W. Hughes, PMP, is a professional project manager, learning consultant, adult learning theorist, and application consultant dedicated to the development of cutting-edge learning applications and implementation of complex application solutions. He has traveled throughout the U.S. and Europe educating programmers, web developers, and project managers. A certified project management professional, Gary is an active member of the PMI Kentuckiana chapter. He also is a Microsoft Certified Trainer and a Microsoft Certified Solution Developer. Joe Luttrell, PMP, has over 20 years of experience in business processes and program management including eight years as an IT system and database engineer and the remainder as a project/program manager. His experience spans the consumer goods, financial services and healthcare industries. Joe obtained his PMP certification in 2003, earned a bachelor of business administration degree (focus on computer information systems) from Eastern Kentucky University and is currently pursuing his American Society of Quality’s Six Sigma Black Belt certification.

Steven J. Bennett, MBA, PMP, is an accomplished technology program manager with extensive educational and commercial experience. He holds an MBA with a concentration in eCommerce from the University of Oklahoma. He earned a Six Sigma Black Belt and obtained his Project Management Professional (PMP) certification in 2008. Steve has broad industry experience leading quality initiatives and change acceleration projects including Lean, Six Sigma, Total Quality Management (TQM), and ISO 9001. Steve is an accomplished speaker and trainer. Students who have attended his training sessions describe him as informative, kind, contemplative, and thorough. H. Ray Pait is a senior program manager at Churchill Downs, where he has been instrumental in defining processes necessary to develop a standardized project and portfolio management process. He previously served as security coordinator and director of admissions for Churchill Downs after completing a distinguished 20-year career in law enforcement. His project management experience includes web development projects, system upgrade and enhancement initiatives, and process improvement projects.

General Information Location: Seminars are held on the University of Louisville’s Shelby Campus @ ShelbyHurst. Free parking is provided. A campus map and parking permit are included with your confirmation letter, which is e-mailed 7-10 days prior to the seminar. Continuing Education Units (CEUs). CEUs are available to participants who successfully complete a seminar. PDUs are awarded for successful completion of “Fundamentals of Project Management,” “Project Management Practical Application,” and “PMBOK® Guide Update.” Guarantee: If you are not completely satisfied with the return on your time and money investments, we will refund your tuition fee in full. Tax Credit: Depending on income, those who self-pay for continuing education seminars may be eligible for lifetime learning credits. Consult your tax advisor for specifics.
