Directing for Video Filmmakers Whether you’re filming your 5- and 7-year olds acting out Peter Pan or shooting adults with the hope of getting into one of Kentucky’s many film festivals, this course will teach you the basic skills used by every professional director: staging, blocking, rehearsing, story boards, shot lists, pans, dolly shots, overheads, zooming, cuts and fades, cross-cutting, audio capture, background music, and working with actors. We’ll review the cost and utility of the equipment needed to take "low budget/no budget" video films from the amateur to the professional level. Let’s Make a Movie!
Twelve O’Clock High (1949); and Marty (1955)
Make a short feature film from start to finish. You and your classmates will write an original screenplay, cast it from within the class, shoot it, edit it, add titles and music, and create a DVD of the finished film to share with friends and family. You’ll learn each of the roles in a production company by actually doing the work of the writer, the director, the camera operator, the sound engineer, the editor, the grip, the gaffer, and–of course–the actors. This movie will be shot on broadcast-quality digital video equipment and edited using Apple’s Final Cut Suite. No experience in filmmaking is required, but you must have completed “Directing for Video Filmmakers” if you want to direct during this class. Participants must be 16 years of age or older.

Fiction Writing Workshop NEW!
Jewelry Basics: Beads and Beyond
Whether you want to write short stories or the great American novel, this workshop will sharpen your technique, fire up your imagination, and silence your inner critic. Students will receive constructive, supportive feedback every week while examining fiction craft issues such as plot, dialogue, point of view, and character development. Beginners as well as seasoned writers welcome!
Create one-of-a-kind jewelry with beads, wire and metal. Work with wire to create a variety of chains and incorporate beads in necklaces, earrings and/or bracelets. Use a jeweler’s saw to cut unique shapes from sheet metal to use as pendants for necklaces, earrings and as links in a chain. Combine storebought, handmade and/or found object components to create jewelry that will be the envy of all your friends. Wire, sheet metal, an assortment of beads, findings and tools will be provided, although students are welcome to bring additional items to personalize their jewelry. Class size is limited to 12.

Intermediate Metalsmithing Techniques for Jewelry
FOOD & SPIRITS
Construct a bezel-set cabochon (non-faceted stone) sterling silver ring using basic soldering techniques. You will also complete a small brass/ copper container (i.e., locket or box with a lid) using scoring or forming techniques. Materials to make the ring, fused piece and container are included in the registration fee.
All “Spirits” classes are taught by Chris Zaborowski, wine educator and judge with 25 years of experience in the beverage alcohol industry. Chris is also coowner of Westport Whiskey & Wine.
