Research
Undergraduates may participate in ongoing research with faculty, starting as early as their freshman year. Qualified students may also obtain undergraduate teaching assistantships and/or undergraduate research and creative activities grants.
Student Organizations
Many student organizations are available for social science majors, including academic honor societies, Model UN, Girls League of the West, Psi Chi, Sociology Student Association and more.
Study Abroad

Live and study in one of our Living-Learning or Themed Communities (LLC/TC)! First-year and second-year options are available. Participants have increased faculty and staff engagement, opportunities to actively engage in community-specific programs, and are exposed to campus resources relevant to their academic, personal and/or professional endeavors.

DEGREE PROGRAMS
Anthropology
Anthropology explores human culture, biology, evolution, languages and arts. Develop skills in critical analysis and data evaluation, preparing for graduate research and careers.
Asian Studies
Asia, home to 60% of the world’s population, includes major economies like China and Japan, with India’s rapid growth. Explore Asian history, language, art, culture and politics—an advantage for employers in Asian markets.
Communication*
Communication studies mass media, message production and dissemination, developing skills in research, analysis and effective communication through writing and speaking, highly valued by employers.
Criminal Justice*
Criminal Justice studies crime and the legal system, preparing students for careers or advanced degrees with critical thinking and communication skills.
Geography
Geography explores Earth’s forces and interactions between humans and the environment. Develop skills in data interpretation, analysis, communication and statistical techniques.
Available tracks include Meteorology, Environmental Analysis, Geospatial Technologies, Human and Cultural Dynamics and Urban Analytics.
History
History studies human experience, covering politics, culture, diplomacy, technology and economics. Develop research, communication, problem-solving and critical thinking skills for diverse professions.

Latin American And Latino Studies
Focuses on Latin American and Latino communities in the U.S., fostering cultural understanding and preparing students for careers in law, education, public policy and international relations.
Pan-African Studies
Pan-African Studies explores African cultures and societies, past and present. Gain skills in diverse analysis methods from humanities, social sciences and fine arts.
Political Science*
Political Science studies policy, politics and global governance, preparing for careers in government, law, business, media and public service.
Available tracks include Applied Politics and Global Politics and International Affairs.
Psychology*
Psychology studies the human mind and behavior, covering cognitive, developmental, social, abnormal psychology and behavioral neuroscience. Develop critical thinking and communication skills for professional work or health related graduate education, meeting prerequisites for medical, dental and physician assistant schools.
Sociology*
Sociology studies human society’s development, structure and function. Trained in research methods and statistics, sociology majors pursue careers in social services, government, nonprofits and private sectors.

Sustainability
Sustainability explores environmental, political, economic and social issues at local, regional and global scales. This prepares students for careers in sustainabilityrelated fields.

Urban Studies
Urban Studies explores cities’ social, economic, political and spatial structures, preparing for careers in urban planning, policy analysis and community development. Available tracks include Urban Administration, Urban Geography, Urban Planning and Urban Sociology.
Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies*
Study complex social issues with gender-informed analysis, research and design. Gain expertise in gender studies, valuable across fields such as business, law, medicine, public administration, social work, education, counseling and government.
Individualized Major (Liberal Studies)
The Individualized Major allows students to design their own undergraduate degree, combining multiple disciplines to create a customized, interdisciplinary program of study.
