• Director participated on steering committee for the UIC Crossing Latinidades Initiatives and secured 2M Mellon foundation grant.
• SHRI Research Faculty Doris Careaga-Coleman received UIC Chicago Research Cluster grant, ($310,000).
• SHRI Associates, Gustavo Garcia and Natalia Toscano, receive Crossing Latinidades Research Fellowship ($60,000) and award from Alfonso Ortiz Center for Intercultural Studies Alfonso Ortiz Center for Intercultural Studies, for “Proyecto Jaranera: The Poetics of Son Jarocho" ($10,000).
• Associate Director Goodwin co-published Speculative Fiction for Dreamers: A Latinx Anthology, Ohio State University Press, 2021 (2022 Finalist, World Fantasy Awards).
• SHRI Research Faculty Kells co-published Latina Leadership: Language and Literacy Education Across Communities, Syracuse University Press, 2021 (2023 Outstanding Book Award for an Edited Collection, Conference on College Composition and Communication).
• SHRI Research Faculty Romero is sole U.S. invited presenter to Tanta International Poetry Festival in Egypt.

• SHRI is the only Latina/o-serving research institute with the broadest number of disciplinary-based faculty mobilizing research, educational interactions, and public service for Latina/o communities throughout the state. (UNM HSI-Minority-Serving
Members throughout UNM campus. The Institute works closely with the new MA and PhD program in Chicana and Chicano Studies on collaborative academic initiatives.
SHRI has raised UNMs national and international profile by increasing scholarship and research collaboration.
SHRI Research Faculty are highly networked within the state and the US to lead Latinx scholarship locally and nationally.
SHRI is positioned to serve as a supportive, academic, conceptual unit for the Latinx community on and off campus.
SHRI, working with CCS, can help UNM achieve its mission within the state and nationally.
SHRI is currently, largely supported by OVPR funds. Although research faculty generate significant sponsored research, SHRI does not benefit due to the incentive structure of F&A distribution among OVPR, Colleges and Departments.
SHRI, with staff at 0.5 FTE, lacks critical administrative support to grow
