Els primers estudis universitaris a Girona daten del segle XV, amb el decret reial d’Alfons el Magnànim que estableix la fundació de l’Estudi General de Girona, una iniciativa que es consolida al segle XVI amb la construcció de l’edifici Les Àligues, d’influx renaixentista, seu del Rectorat de la UdG. L’actual Universitat de Girona neix el desembre del 1991 i des d’aleshores ha duplicat el nombre de titulacions i d’estudiants i ha multiplicat per quatre la superfície d’equipaments. Ha esdevingut el motor social, econòmic i cultural de tot l’entorn gironí. La actual Universidad de Girona nace en diciembre de 1991 y desde entonces ha duplicado el número de titulaciones y de estudiantes y ha multiplicado por cuatro la superficie de equipamientos. The first university studies in Girona date from the 15th century, when Alfons el Magnànim’s royal decree established the Estudi General de Girona, an initiative which was further in the 16th century by the construction of Les Àligues, a building with Renaissance influences, currently the rector’s office of the UdG. The present University of Girona came into being in December 1991 and since then it has doubled both the number of degrees offered and the number of students enrolled, and has quadrupled the total area for facilities. It has become the social, economic and cultural engine of Girona and the surrounding region.
