The computer science field is one that’s continuously growing and evolving. Technology skills are necessary for operations in just about every professional field: business, education, medicine, law enforcement, communication, science, engineering, manufacturing, service industries, the gaming industry and more. You name it, and computer science is right there—making things work in every imaginable way.

Within the computer science realm, the Information Technology degree offered by the University of St. Francis is designed to prepare technology professionals in the efficient use and integration of network technology into existing company structures. You’ll have the opportunity use virtualization to configure servers, and learn about cybersecurity, including ethical hacking. Information Technology majors are provided with the knowledge, skills and methods necessary for the deployment of emerging technology, installation and maintenance of networks, resource management and system security.

WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH THIS DEGREE?

Once you’ve earned your Information Technology degree, there are a number of paths you can take as you pursue a lucrative career in the field. You may start out in an entry-level position, then grow into a management role at your workplace. Some popular job titles include software architect, network engineer, information security manager, computer and information scientist, database administrator, data analyst, web developer, JAVA developer, computer programmer, network support technician and support specialist. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the growth rates for computer and information technology jobs are expected to grow by 12% by the year 2024, creating hundreds of thousands of new positions.

GROW THROUGH REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE

University of St. Francis students are encouraged to combine practical experience with their college curriculum. Employers say they often look for students who have an internship on their resume, therefore, internships are a significant part of the USF experience. Internships will allow Information Technology majors to get experience in real-life situations. Information Technology majors will also get experience in the classroom, with projects that give them hands-on experience with the tools and resources being used in businesses today.
