WHAT WILL I STUDY? / Biodiversity Explore the origins and diversity of living organisms (including humans), the environmental processes and their role. / Genes to Ecosystems Evaluate how basic genetics, evolution and population genetics are relevant to wildlife studies. / Introduction to Zoo Biology Learn about the historical development and evolution of zoos, the basic anatomy and physiology of vertebrates, methods of handling individual animals and more. / Study Skills You will learn by observation, investigation, comparison and engagement whilst developing practical learning and presentation methods. / Field Biology You will be introduced to identification and measurement of organisms in the field, looking at common British species of animals and plants. / Global Distribution of Wildlife Gain an overview of the world’s major biomes, the importance of biogeography and the principal factors driving the distribution of species and communities. Exact modules may vary in order to keep content current.

WHAT’S IT LIKE TO STUDY WILDLIFE CONSERVATION AT SALFORD? / Royal Society of Biology Accreditation Our courses are accredited by the Royal Society of Biology, meaning the content, structure and resources we offer meet industry standards. The accreditation also reassures students that they will develop the relevant academic and practical skills required for a career in the industry. / Societies At the University of Salford, we have a range of student-run societies which cover all aspects of student life, from academia to sports, politics to the environment, performance to faith. We have several societies which link to the Human and Life Sciences. From Biomedical Science to Climate Change to Wildlife, you will find a group of likeminded students and a place to socialise, relax and enhance your skills. There is also the Steminists society, supporting female students across STEM subjects and promoting gender equality. / Field trips and placement opportunities Alongside your studies, you will have the opportunity to gain real-world context through a number of field trips throughout your degree. Past trips have included local day trips to UK zoos and animal parks, field courses in the Peak District and Lake District, as well as international field courses in the tropics. You will also be encouraged to put your skills into practice during industry placements. Students on our wildlife courses have previously secured work placements in Greece, Scotland, Belize and Brazil, working for a range of conservation organisations.
