ARRIVING BY CAR

Salford Crescent station is located on the campus between Peel Park and Allerton. Direct services run to and from Manchester Airport, Manchester Piccadilly and Victoria, as well as Blackpool, Bolton, Buxton, Blackburn, Southport, Preston, Lancaster and Barrow-in-Furness.

Inter-city services normally use Manchester Piccadilly which is about ten minutes train journey from Salford Crescent.

Manchester Airport is 15 miles from the University.

There are regular, direct train services to and from Salford Crescent station and Manchester Piccadilly.

Buses 43, 44, 84A and 103 link the airport and the city centre.

COLLECTING YOUR GUEST TICKETS

REGISTRATION Graduates should go directly to the Lady Hale building for registration upon their arrival.

Please note that you need to register AT LEAST TWO HOURS BEFORE YOUR CEREMONY STARTS. It is extremely important that you treat registration as a priority; if you do not register, your name will not be on the presenters list and you will NOT be able to graduate.

GRADUATES On the day of your graduation it is extremely important that you treat registration as your first priority.

At the registration desk, you will need your University ID card and your email / text registration and seat number confirmation.

At the registration desk, you will need to collect a registration token which will allow you to collect your robes and enter the ceremony hall.

Once you have registered, you will be able to collect one copy of the graduation souvenir brochure, as a keepsake.

Additional copies will be on sale for £3.00 each from the Graduation Information Desk (Maxwell Hall Foyer).

Complimentary and additional guest tickets should be collected from the Ticket Desk in the Lady Hale building on the day of your graduation. Tickets will not be sent out to you but can be collected from two hours before your ceremony start time. Complimentary and additional guest tickets will always be allocated together where possible.

Guest tickets will be issued in the name of the student. Therefore, tickets can only be collected by the graduate upon production of their student ID card or other forms of photographic ID.

There may be a limited number of guest tickets to purchase on the day. This is not guaranteed and we strongly advise that you purchase any additional tickets beforehand to avoid disappointment.

Additional tickets (subject to availability) will be available to purchase on a first come first served basis from 10:00am on 13 November 2018 and will be charged at £12.50 each. Please see the website for further details.

LIVE STREAM All ceremonies are streamed live in Peel Hall, Peel building where guests can go and watch the ceremonies free of charge.

Please note:

REGISTRATION CLOSES 30 MINUTES PRIOR TO THE START OF YOUR CEREMONY Once registration closes, you will be classed as a ‘late arrival’ and you will NOT be able to graduate.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you arrive at registration at the appropriate time – travel disruptions are highly likely so please ensure that you leave plenty of time to arrive at Peel Park Campus. Graduate tickets are separate to guest tickets and the graduate ticket will be sent electronically via email and text confirming the graduate’s seat number approx. one week before the graduation day.

Additional tickets are always limited and cannot be guaranteed at any stage.

We cannot issue refunds for any purchased tickets which are returned unused.

Children are welcome at the ceremonies; however sometimes they can prove to be too long for younger children who may become restless. For the comfort of other guests, guardians may be asked to take any child that becomes agitated or distressed out of the theatre to the foyer area.

Children over two years of age must have their own seat in the theatre and therefore must be included in your guest numbers for full priced tickets.

Children up to the age of two may sit on an adult’s lap and will require a separate ‘babes in arms’ ticket so you must inform us of their attendance.

Due to health and safety regulations all participants and guests at the ceremonies are required to be seated.

Children under the age of 16 are not allowed into the hall unaccompanied by an adult and cannot be seated with graduates.

Graduates and guests are seated separately within the theatre.

CHILDCARE There will be a nursery available for children aged three months to four and a half years old, supervised by fully trained staff. Please note that the Busy Bees nursery is at Allerton building, Frederick Road Campus, and you will need to make arrangements with the Busy Bees Nursery Manager regarding sessions and availability of places. There will be a charge for this service and places are limited. Please allow sufficient time to drop your child off prior to the ceremony.

ROBING Following registration, graduates should go directly to collect their robes in the Gilbert Rooms which are situated behind Maxwell Hall.

Please note – in order to collect your robes, you will need: Token collected from registration which says “I’m ready” The reference number issued to you when you ordered your gowns online. Staff from the gown company, Ede & Ravenscroft, will assist you with your robing It is advised that you should wear smart business dress under your robes.

Please note that the hood has a loop that is required to be fastened to a shirt or blouse button and pins will NOT be supplied.

INFORMATION FOR GUESTS CAP PLEASE NOTE: guests are not allowed in the robing and registration areas.

Guests should be in their designated seats at least 30 minutes before the ceremony begins and should listen for announcements asking graduates and guests to take their seats.

Staff will be available to show students and guests to their seats.

ACCESS REQUIREMENTS

It is very important that if you have any guests who have access requirements, that you tell us about this when you order your tickets.

Access requirements can include: Mobility difficulties Visual or hearing impairment Babies in prams We can usually accommodate your needs if we know in advance, but it can be very difficult to re-seat a guest on the day.

IT IS VITAL THAT YOU OCCUPY THE SEAT RESERVED FOR YOU TO ENSURE YOU ARE IN THE CORRECT SEQUENCE AS YOU GO ON STAGE.

TAKE YOUR SEAT NO LESS THAN 45 MINUTES BEFORE THE CEREMONY BEGINS

You are required to leave your seats in rows in order to process across the stage and as such you must have nothing in your hands, apart from your Bonnet or mortar board.

We advise that you do not bring any bags or large items but if this is necessary, please ask a guest to look after them for the duration of the ceremony to ensure that all aisles are clear. Under no circumstances must you leave bags under your seats as this may pose a health and safety risk and in some instances, you may not return to your original seat after processing across the stage.

PLEASE NOTE: for University of Salford ceremonies, mortar board/ Bonnets are not worn as part of the actual ceremony. As the ceremony concludes and the audience stands, you will be asked to put on your mortar board/Bonnet on for processing out of the hall. Graduates will be directed out by the ushers in order of rows, behind the main procession.

TAKING YOUR SEAT Your seat number and row will be stated in your e-ticket. Be careful not to lose this, as it is very important that you are sitting in the correct seat when you are called up to the stage.

PLEASE NOTE: if this order changes and does not match the official list of graduates, somebody else’s name may be read out instead of yours.

Thirty minutes before the ceremony begins, verifiers will check that everyone is sitting in their correct seats. If you are not sitting in your seat by then, your name may not be read out when you go up on the stage.

CERTIFICATES AND TRANSCRIP TS SAY CHEESE

WHEN WILL MY CERTIFICATE AND TRANSCRIPT BE AVAILABLE? Certificates are printed and distributed within 6 weeks, following confirmation of an award at an examination board. However, at peak times of the academic year, this may take longer.

If you require an academic confirmation letter whilst your certificate is being printed and distributed, please email sa-studentrecords@salford.ac.uk Your degree certificate is an important legal document and should be treated as such, therefore you will only ever have one original certificate and if this is lost or damaged, you can purchase a replacement.

It is important to note that if you have any outstanding debts we will withhold your certificate until your debt is settled in full. For further information, please contact the Income & Treasury Team on 0161 295 0023 (Option 2, Option 1) or by email Income-Treasury@salford.ac.uk

HOW WILL I RECEIVE MY CERTIFICATE AND TRANSCRIPT? Check that we have your correct permanent address.

You can update it yourself, if necessary. Check and update my permanent home address. You will need your network username and password to login.

UK address: if your permanent home address is in the UK, your certificate will be posted directly to this address, without you having to request it.

Address outside of the UK: if your permanent home address is outside of the UK, you will receive an email when your certificate is ready. The email will ask you to complete a form to confirm how you would like to receive your certificate: Collection by yourself Collection by a named friend DHL express delivery If you do not request collection or the DHL service, your certificate will posted by un-tracked airmail, to your permanent home address within six weeks of your award and we cannot accept responsibility if it is lost. w w w. s a l f o r d . a c . u k /g r a d u a t i o n

HOW WILL MY NAME APPEAR ON MY CERTIFICATE? Your certificate will display the name in which you registered. It is your responsibility to check that we have your full legal name on our records. Check my name is correct. You will need your network username and password to login.

If your name requires amending, please send a scanned copy of the documentary evidence of your full legal name (such as your passport or driving licence) to sa-studentrecords@salford.ac.uk and request that your name is updated.

Your name must be updated on our records no later than Friday 02 November 2018 for it to appear on your certificate.

If you prefer to do this in person, you can visit University House to book an appointment with the Student Records Team. Appointments are available between 9:00am and 5:00pm, Monday to Friday.

Appointments must be booked in person.

I HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED MY CERTIFICATE BUT MY NAME IS INCORRECT After the certificate has been printed, a change of name can only be done in line with the University’s Name Change Policy, whereby students will be liable to incur the appropriate costs.

If you have already received your certificate, please email the Student Records Team at sa-studentrecords@salford.ac.uk If you prefer to speak with a member of the team in person, you can visit University House to book an appointment with the Student Records Team.

Appointments are available between 9.00am and 5.00pm, Monday to Friday. Appointments must be booked in person.

OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHY The University’s official graduation photographer is Tempest Photography. The ‘Capture the Moment’ display will be located in Maxwell Lower Hall.

Photographs will be available as formal studio portraits for individuals and small groups (up to 7), and as ‘Capture the Moment’ on stage shaking hands with the presiding officer. To order your photographs on the day, graduates should make their way to Tempest’s photographic studios located in the Lower Maxwell Hall.

Please consider that the use of mobile phones and filming and photography equipment is strictly prohibited during the ceremonies. Please also be aware that there may be unofficial photographers operating in the area, although we take measures to try to stop this. We advise students to use Tempest Photography for their graduation photographs, and cannot be held responsible for poor quality photographs taken by external parties.

HELP AVAIL ABLE ON THE DAY Should you require any assistance, please approach the Graduation Information Desk, which will be situated in the Maxwell Hall foyer, or any member of University staff wearing a badge displaying the University logo and their name.

Tempest Photography will be on hand to answer any questions about your official photography.

Please note the graduation office will be closed on 5 December and 6 December 2018 as all staff will be located in the Maxwell Hall. In the event of a problem, please call the University on 0161 295 5000 and a message will be passed to graduation staff at Maxwell Hall.
