‘I completed my BA with distinction and I received academic colours from the Student Representative Council. I am Golden Key member and was the best Criminology student in 2014. Currently, I am completing my honours degree in Criminology, which is internationally recognised. The University of Pretoria has equipped me with the skills and knowledge that I require to make a meaningful contribution to human development. My dream job would be to work for the United Nations as a criminologist, and I hope to work alongside policy makers. I am interested in developing procedures that would help to maintain international peace and security while promote human rights.’ Chrysander Kelsey Pawunkumar

‘The Department of Sociology has provided me with opportunities for personal growth, as well as exposure to the workplace and being appointed as a teaching assistant allowed me to put theory to practice with research projects. As a sports lover, I played netball for House Humanities and TuksNetbal and I served on the Student Sports Committee. I was awarded an achievement bursary, an honours merit award, a NSFAS postgraduate scholarship and I am a Golden Key member. I am currently enrolled for a BSocSci (Hons) Industrial Sociology and Labour Studies degree, and working as a first-year Sociology tutor. This programme is versatile, and allows one to branch off into many sectors. I have not yet decided whether I want to pursue a career in academia, research or follow a corporate career.’ Dimakatso Lucy Poopedi

‘I am a speech-language therapist and have always wanted to help people in a medical field. This degree and training helped to prepare me for my community service year at a government hospital in Rustenburg, which I am near to completing. My dream job is to work in a rehabilitation centre for patients who have suffered strokes and other brain injuries. My university achievements include Golden Key membership; I passed the BA (Speech-Language Pathology) with distinction, and I was awarded the P de V Pienaar Award for Best student in Speech Pathology – Academic in 2015.’ Melissa Pike

‘I completed the BA (Speech-language Pathology) degree at Tuks at the end of 2014 and was awarded the P de V Pienaar Award for Best Student in Speech Pathology – Academic in 2015. I loved the programme! I enjoy being able to make a difference in the lives of patients and their families. The variety of practical work in the programme and our supportive lecturers prepared us well for the work environment. I am currently in my community service year, working at a hospital in the North-West province. In the future, I hope to work at a neurological rehabilitation centre.’ Caitlin Pike
