We are one of the largest and most popular multidisciplinary universities in Finland. Our seven faculties host over 15,000 students from all over Finland and nearly 100 countries around the world. Our core fields of research and education are basic natural phenomena and the structure of matter; education, learning, and teaching in the future; languages, culture, and social change processes; physical activity and wellbeing; and human technology. Six of our research units have been awarded Centre of Excellence status through the international evaluation carried out by the Academy of Finland. Our University is ranked on the ARWU Shanghai list, the Times Higher Education World University Ranking list and the QS World University Ranking list.

The distinctive quality and solid reputation of the Finnish education system brings thousands of international students to the country every year. Jyväskylä is an exceptionally attractive study destination with its combination of top-quality education and research, technologically advanced campuses, a safe and comfortable community, the unique Nordic nature and landscape, as well as a wide range of sports, cultural events and activities.

I chose JYU because of its stellar international reputation and because of the glowing recommendations from close friends who also completed the CEM programme. Jyväskylä has a great student vibe, with a perfect mix of play and intellectually stimulating activities.

FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF JYVÄSKYLÄ The University of Jyväskylä offers high-quality, research-based master’s degree programmes in English in its fields of special expertise. International students are welcome to apply to the two-year programmes, which lead to an officially recognised master’s degree and qualify for doctoral studies.

The annual application deadline for most programmes is in January–February.

HOW TO APPLY: All students with a good command of English and a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field are welcome to apply for the master’s degree studies. Non-native English speakers must provide evidence of their competence in English (e.g. with an internationally recognised and validated language test score). Generally, there are no entrance examinations, with students being accepted on the basis of their earlier academic achievements.
