That’s why he chose to study civil engineering at UEL for his first degree. “UEL Civil Engineering was highly ranked in league tables and that motivated me to study at my local university.”

My supervisory experience was particularly valuable to them.”
Like many of our students, Alfred gained vital experience through a series of placements on engineering projects taking place in east London with companies such as Laing O’Rourke with whom he spent 12 weeks. “I was involved with the design team for two of the big footbridges at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, making sure they were suitable for disabled access and for bicycles.”
These days Alfred is on the Atkins structural engineering team, designing bridges for London Underground and Network Rail. Atkins supported him for his MSc in Structural Engineering because they knew Alfred’s advanced skills would enable them to continue to win major projects in one of the engineering capitals of the world, east London.
