This is exactly the invitation we would like to extend to every member of the Fairbanks community when thinking about UAF this summer.

Take a look at all that is being offered and plan to come on campus and be a part of the UAF family. There is a vast array of credit courses, non-credit courses, children’s camps, lectures, concerts, Fairbanks Shakespeare Theater productions, UA Museum of the North exhibits and Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival performances. At least 60 lectures and concerts are FREE. And after 5 p.m., even parking is FREE. Please note that financial aid is available for children attending our Kids Camps.

For those who like to venture out of Fairbanks into the wilderness we have eleven field courses. And for those who would like to visit another part of the world, there are educational travel programs to Ireland, Cuba, and Bali.

Get Outdoors!

Field Painting at Coal Creek Camp 1 credit. Cost $750, includes air transport from Fairbanks, housing in the bunkhouse and food.

MEETS July 8, UAF Campus, Art Bldg 303 July 9-12, Coal Creek Off the Yukon River lies the restored old mining camp of Coal Creek, complete with its own Gold Rush era dredge. Enjoy this unique setting as you investigate concepts of space, light, color, composition, scale and specific elements of landscape paintings such as water, reflections, and skies, aerial and linear perspective.

FIELD PHOTOGRAPHY The following noncredit field photography courses are taught by award winning photographer Richard Murphy, the Snedden Chair of Journalism at UAF. Explore photographic field techniques in the outdoors where the subjects are nature, landscapes, flora, fauna, and all that makes Alaska the amazing place it is. All levels of skill and camera gear are welcome.

MEETS July 12-17 Join NPS Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve rangers for a paddle back in time down the Yukon River from Eagle to the historic Slaven’s Roadhouse, approximately 100 miles.

Participants must be experienced paddlers with intermediate level canoeing skills and bring their personal gear, including sleeping bags.

nn Tremarello was one of the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ most valuable institutional resources. She retired as registrar after nearly 50 years with the university. During her tenure she saw the campus grow from fewer than 400 to nearly 9,000 students. As the consummate advocate, she constantly worked in the background to make things better for students. Join us for a fun, active and exciting day camp. We start when school ends in May and go all the way to the first day of school in August. Daily activities range from ice skating, swimming and fort building in the woods to all the sports you can handle. We even have the kids make up games!

Expedition—Rock climbing, hiking, kayaking and much more. Ages: 1014. Cost: $450/week (incl. lunch).

Dates: June 13-17, June 27-July 1, July 18-22, and August 1-5 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Backcountry—Two six-day backcountry experiences. Ages: 14-17.

• Backpacking trip to the Chandalar shelf in the Brooks Range: June 20-25.

• Float down the Chulitna River in Broad Pass: July 11-16.

Rentals

UAF Outdoor Adventures has an extensive list of equipment rentals, from rafts and SUP boards to tents and crampons. We stock only top name-brands and have very reasonable rates for students and the community. This summer we

will have a satellite rental facility at Tanana Lakes for beach goers to go

beyond the swim beach.
