At this Convocation Ceremony, University has conferred the Emeritus Professor title to Yang Berbahagia Profesor Ir. Dr. Azraai bin Kassim, the Vice Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) for his contribution and long service to UTM previously. www.utm.my

Nevertheless, I am confident that as a UTM graduand, the learning experience that you have undergone, the lectures and lab sessions, as well as other activities that were organised, you have been planted with good values that represent UTM core values of Integrity, Synergy, Excellence and Sustainability. www.utm.my

Those core values should be ingrained in your mind and internalised to shape a noble character that would enable you to become leaders in the society and this is a UTM DNA that we are all proud of. www.utm.my
FACING POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC CRISIS
Dear Graduands, You must be aware of the political and economic crisis that we are facing now and the crisis is giving a negative impact to the social wellbeing and it can affect the sustainability of the environment, be it at the national level or global. This is worrying and it becomes a major challenge that we must face together. www.utm.my
FACING POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC CRISIS
We cannot be selfish by letting it happen without feeling any responsibility to straighten things up. We cannot just sit and hope that other people will step forward to correct things. Our future generation might suffer if we just sit back without taking any action. www.utm.my
RESPONSIBILITY TO LEAD THE COMMUNITY
Therefore, I am calling all of you, graduands in this hall to take this responsibility to lead the community to improve the situation for the better. It does not matter how small the contribution is, because I am confident that it is a highly valuable contribution to the society. www.utm.my

Dear Graduands, I would like to take this opportunity to share one formula that can be used as your True North. I called this a 4S formula:

THE FIRST S – SENSE OF MISSION
The first S – Sense of mission. A clear mission in life which is noble would be able to guide you. This will create the internal strength that enables you to face any adversity. I am sure that our mission is not just to think and work for our own success and for our family only. Thus, think carefully of what is your life mission. www.utm.my
THE SECOND S – STRUGGLE
The second S – Struggle. Achieving our life mission is a struggle. We have a Malay idiom that says nothing comes easy in life. So do not feel scared or weak when facing life challenges because it is all part and parcel of life. In fact, we have to always ask ourselves if and when things come to us easily because there might be a catch there or something might not be right. www.utm.my
THE THIRD S – SACRIFICE
The third S – Sacrifice. With every struggle, there comes sacrifice. A struggle is not complete without a sacrifice. Readiness to sacrifice is one of the strengths that we must have in reaching our life mission. One of the sacrifices we can make is to put others first, or prioritise other people over ourself, not asking what we get from a job done, and sacrifice for other people’s happiness. www.utm.my
THE FOURTH S – SINCERITY
The fourth S – Sincerity. Sincerity can become a cure to the pain we feel in our struggle. Sincerity can lead to other good characters such as courageous, patience, integrity and readiness to sacrifice for the sake of achieving life mission. www.utm.my

Dear graduands, parents ladies and gentlemen, UTM is always working hard to make sure that its reputation as one of the best higher education institutions globally is maintained. We are also working hard to offer uniqueness to our students, industry and other stakeholders. www.utm.my

We are confident that the various initiatives that we are currently undertaking would enable us to produce graduates who are able to face the challenges of industry 4.0 such as being entrepreneurial and innovative coupled with human values that are holistic. www.utm.my

EXPERIENCED A CHANGE IN THE POLITICAL SENARIO
The most recent achievement which we are proud of is the achievement of UTM student, Mohd Syafiq Rahmat who was announced as the Tokoh Siswa Kebangsaan 2018 (National Undergraduate Figure) by the Ministry of Education Malaysia. He was chosen from thousands of undergraduates in the country. Congratulations! www.utm.my
QS WORLD UNIVERSITY RANKINGS
The QS World University Rankings under the Engineering and Technology category has put UTM at the 100 world best ranking for 4 disciplines that are Architecture and Built Environment, Chemical Engineering, Structure Engineering and Civil Engineering, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering. www.utm.my

UTM ENDOWMENT
For the record, to date, UTM has received donations exceeding RM 3.2 million from UTM alumni of the total Endowment amounting to RM94 million. Through this Endowment, a total of RM19.6 million had been disbursed as scholarships that benefitted 630 students since 2011. Out of that number, 294 students had graduated. www.utm.my
