My group's project focused on the Architect Act and Malaysian laws governing forms of practice. Throughout this assignment, I learned a lot about the criteria and legal frameworks for forming a firm.
During our investigation, we learnt about many forms of business entities, including sole proprietorships, partnerships, and corporations. We also discussed future interior design trends and the role of interior architects, including the incorporation of AR and VR technology. In addition, we investigated numerous AI platforms important to interior architects.
We conducted a detailed analysis of the costs involved in starting a company, the deductible corporate income tax expenses, and methods for setting design fees. This comprehensive study provided us with practical insights into the financial and regulatory aspects of establishing an architectural practice in Malaysia.
The project was not only educational but also enjoyable and conducive to our learning. This hands-on experience allowed us to connect theoretical knowledge with practical applications, enhancing our understanding of the terms and conditions outlined in the Architect Act and rules in Malaysia.
Overall, the project provided us with a valuable opportunity to explore the legislative and regulatory dimensions of interior design, specifically focusing on forms of practice. We were able to apply our knowledge and further develop our skills in understanding and implementing regulations before starting a company.

This assignment sets the scenario for students to to re-imagine and reconceptualize the ideal architectural practice of the future. Participants are encouraged to consider various challenges often faced by architects/designers and propose solutions, and innovative business models.
In deciding the desired business context, students need to evaluate critically the data obtained in Project 1. In doing this assignment, students will be clearer of their own vision and mission in forming their own design company within the business context. This is achieved through reflection of one ’ s own action and learning in applying effective business practices.

Throughout this project on "Future Practices (Formation of IDCP)," my group envisioned the establishment of an interior design consultancy practice company, Studio AVLYJ, a partnership-based company.
In crafting Studio AVLYJ's vision and mission, our aim was to create a dynamic team that designs imaginative spaces that captivate, emphasizing integrity, creativity, and enduring style. We strive to produce innovative designs that go beyond functionality to stimulate the senses and challenge traditional forms. To achieve this, we need to focus on continuous learning, adopting the latest design technologies, and fostering a collaborative and creative work environment.
Furthermore, I gained a basic understanding of financial aspects such as start-up capital, monthly overhead, annual expenses, staff salaries, project-based salary reports, and fees for registration and licenses. We also acquired knowledge about marketing strategies for the future, exploring social media, websites, collaborations, and exhibitions to expand our company. Importantly, we learned about future practices as interior designers, utilizing online platforms for international projects, and understanding visa implications for physical presence in Malaysia.
This project provided us with an invaluable learning experience. It allowed us to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios, enhancing our critical thinking and problemsolving skills.
Overall, this project was an exciting and enriching journey. It instilled in us a sense of purpose and the determination to create a socially responsible and successful interior design consultancy practice in the future.

This assignment allows students to apply their knowledge gained in Project 1 into their individual projects in AIAD2. Each regulatory, legislative, and technical provision must be illustrated into an informative report presentation with dimensions, drawings (including isometrics) and materials where necessary. Students will be assessed based on their ability to explain and apply knowledge and understanding to their Final AIAD2 Project.
This exercise serves as a working paper for AIAD. Students’ design shall not change or be influenced by the laws due to both module’s time constrain factor, instead, it acts as an overall guideline to address the next forthcoming steps before finalizing the building plans. Thus, students are asked to identify noncompliance by marking an (x) and describing the next course of action for design rectification. This rigorous process is essential to ensure compliance with the law before the drawings can be submitted to the Local Authority.

In our final assignment, "By-Law Application and Prerequisites for Building Plan Submission," we had been asked to use AIADII's project and cross-check our design to ensure compliance with applicable by-laws and criteria. I centred my design on euphonious principles, translating sounds into visually appealing, threedimensional shapes that connect aural and visual awareness. This integration improves our connection to the world by making abstract sounds palpable. Visualising sounds creates a dynamic realm that encourages exploration and transforms encounters into unforgettable experiences. It provides a new way to interact with and appreciate sounds, creating an inclusive and dynamic environment.
This assignments provided me with a better knowledge of the significance of many aspects, such as purpose group categorization and methods of escape, in fire safety. Understanding the categorization of buildings into purpose groups helped me understand how various types of spaces are subject to specific standards to ensure their safety. For example, understanding if a place is designated as residential, commercial, or assembly influences the design decisions we make, from layout to materials.
As interior designers, we have a duty to think critically and analyse if our designs are appropriate for the consumers' demands. This includes evaluating accessibility, usability, and comfort, as well as regulatory compliance. The project emphasised the need of taking a comprehensive approach to design, with safety, functionality, and user experience all seamlessly linked.
Overall, this assignment gave me an excellent opportunity to apply my understanding of bylaws and building plan submission requirements to my design. It emphasised the importance of a full grasp of legal and safety standards in the design process. Moving forward, I'm excited to incorporate these insights into my future projects, making sure they're not just inventive and visually beautiful, but also safe, compliant, and usercentered. This experience has increased my desire to always develop and modify my ideas to provide the greatest levels of safety and usefulness.

The Professional Practice module has been instrumental in providing me with crucial insights and experiences that have significantly contributed to my development as an aspiring professional in interior design. This module included four distinct assignments, each focusing on different facets of professional practice and presenting unique learning opportunities. The topics covered ranged from understanding the legislative and regulatory aspects of interior design, establishing a design consultancy, to ensuring compliance with relevant by-laws.
The module syllabus was conveyed to us in an easy-tounderstand and organized manner by our lecturer, Ms. Yasmin. I truly appreciate the way she has inspired us to expand our knowledge. She has taught us a great deal and has been instrumental in our learning journey.
To summarise, this programme provided me with practical knowledge, technical abilities, and a better grasp of the professional side of interior design. I feel more equipped to face the challenges and obligations that come with being a design professional. This curriculum has helped establish my professional identity and laid a solid basis for my future in the area.
