SPORTS Mid Mon Valley All Sports Hall of Fame Celebrates its 20th Banquet With a sixth straight sell out at The Willow Room in Rostraver Township on the evening of June 21, the Mid Mon Valley All Sports Hall of Fame welcomed seven new members into its honored Hall of Fame bringing the number of total inductees to 212. The first two inductees in 1951 were Stan Musial and Bert Rechichar. All seven inductees spoke of their roots in the Mon Valley and Meet the 2013 Mid Mon Valley All Sports Hall of Fame Senior High School Scholar Athletes: Seated (l-r): Charleroi’s Natalie Baker, Belle Vernon’s Heather Wells, Bentworth’s Taylor Pompei, the humbleness with which California’s Christina Puhnaty, Elizabeth Forward’s Braelyn Tracy, Monessen’s Alexis Malarbi, they receive the award. Standing (l-r): Belle Vernon’s Geno Leone, Fifteen Mon valley area Bentworth’s Jesse Paul Martin, California’s Benjamin Thomas, Charleroi’s Luke Simpson, Ringgold’s graduating scholar athletes Chris Spahr, Yough’s Domanic Miele and Elizabeth Forward’s Matthew Casturo were also honored along with three WPIAL gold winners, Charleroi’s junior Nick Gavazzi in wrestling, California’s junior Kailyn Clancy in track and field and Elizabeth Forward’s senior Braelyn Tracy in swimming. These students received the MMVASHOF Achievement award. Richard Bucchianeri, long-time Valley educator, was awarded the 2013 MMVASHOF Appreciation award for his vast contributions to the Hall’s success. The 21st annual induction banquet will be held on Friday June 20, 2014.
Annual Fall Classic Golf Outing Scheduled for October 4 The Annual Greater Rostraver Chamber (GRC) Fall Classic Golf Outing is scheduled for Friday, October 4 at Cedarbrook Golf Course. The Fall Classic Golf Outing benefits the scholarship program, allowing the GRC to provide scholarships funds to California University of PA, Douglas Education Center and Westmoreland County Community College. This event offers sponsorship and advertising opportunities, as well as a fun day on the course. The outing features a continental breakfast, lunch, buffet dinner, awards, mini massages, skill prizes, raffle and door prizes, networking and more! Great hole-in-one prizes from sponsors, Mar-Bill Diamonds & Jewelry, Angels World of Cycles, Big’s Trucking and Worldwide Turf, LLC., are anticipated again this year. 3rd Annual "Toast To Our Stars" Golf Outing in Eighty Four The 3rd Annual "Toast To Our Stars" of North Charleroi Golf Outing will be held Sunday, August 4 at Rolling Green Golf Course in Eighty-Four, PA. The event is a 4-person Blind Scramble with a 1:00 pm Shotgun Start. The cost to enter is $70 per person.
