Dear International Student,

Welcome to The University of Pannonia, and thank you for choosing us!

The headquarters of our university is located in Veszprém, one of Hungary's oldest historic towns. The city has deeply-seated traditions of higher educa tion, thus, we believe that being an international student at our institution will not only be intellectually fulfilling but also a long-lasting experience. We are aware that finding your way in a foreign country is not always easy, and that is why we are ready to do our best in order to guide you through this new experience.

The International Mobility Office at the Directorate of Academic Affairs is responsible for all administrative tasks. We also collaborate with the Office of International Student Relations at the Students' Union of the University of Pannonia. Their primary goal is caressing the general welfare of our inter national students. This office has a body of friendly and hospitable student buddies who are keen on making your stay as pleasant and as much fun as possible.

The directorate of International Relations and Communications aims to facilitate internal and external communications and to further imp rove our international (and national) presence.

We hope you will like this guide and also that it will come in handy when you seek to get around in the neighbourhood.

How to get to Veszprém from Budapest?

FROM THE AIRPORT

Budapest Airport (BUD), the largest and most important international airport in Hun gary, also known as Ferenc Liszt International Airport, is located 16 kms southeast of Budapest city center.

100E – a direct bus line connects the airport from Terminal 2 to Deák Ferenc Square in the city center. The bus operates in both directions every 20 minutes from 05:00 to 01:20. The ticket costs 1500 HUF (3.75 euros) and the journey lasts around 45 minutes. Take off at the stop Kálvin square, take metro line 4 to Kelenföld railway station and buy a direct train ticket to Veszprém!

200E – connects the airport with KőbányaKispest railway station, where you can take a direct train to Veszprém. Also, if you’d like to spend some time in Budapest, take metro line 3 to reach the city center. 200E bus leaves every 10 minutes, from 04:00 to 23:00 from Terminal 2, it costs 350 HUF.

FROM THE MAIN TRAIN STATIONS

In case you are arriving to one of the main train stations of Budapest, try to get to either Déli pályaudvar (South Railway Station) or Kelenföld to get a direct train to Veszprém. You can find the train schedule in English here: https://www.mavcsoport.hu/en

FROM THE MAIN BUS STATIONS

In case you decide to arrive from Budapest to Veszprém by bus, go to Népliget bus sta tion and take a direct bus to the city of the University of Pannonia. You can check the timetable here: www.menetrendek.hu

Local transport in Veszprém

Veszprém has its own public transport system which you can use if you buy a ticket or a pass. When starting your journey, you have to show your pass or punch your ticket. With a student card, you receive a discount on your monthly pass. Passes and tickets can be purchased in downtown kiosks and at the City Transport Office (Central Bus Station, 4 Jutasi st.)

HOW TO GET TO LAKE BALATON BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT?

Did you know that you are going to study in the university that is the closest to the biggest lake of Central Europe? Lake Balaton is only a few minutes away from Veszprém, you can hop on a bus going to the nearest lakeside towns (Balatonalmádi, Alsóörs, Csopak and others) from the main bus station. With frequnt buses and cheap tickets you can reach Balaton in around 20 minutes. What are you waiting for?

Residence Permit

Once you have enrolled as a student of the University of Pannonia, you will need to find the Immigration Office (National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing - Central Transdanubian Regional Directorate).

Contact: 8200 Veszprém, Levendula street 1., kdr@oif.gov.hu We recommend students to visit the immigration office with their student mentor.

Upon the students arriving in Hungary with an initial single entry visa the residence permit application must be submitted within 30 days. Thus applicants need the documents below to get residence permit:

University contract or enrollment

Student status certificate

One passport photo

Valid Passport (for at least 3 months)

Address card

Bank account

Health insurance

Admission letter (scholarship)

Letter of award (scholarship)

STUDENT CARD

Erasmus+

students

If you are an Erasmus + student, you do not need to apply for a student card. You will receive a temporary certificate document from the International Mobility Office, which students will need to prolong every two months.

Stipendium Hungaricum

Students with SH scholarship will need to request and fill out an application form to enter the ‘NEK’ - National Card System. Students will need to fill out their student card application in the Neptun system as well.

Bank Account & Tax Number

Stipendium Hungaricum Students must open a bank account and request a tax num ber themselves, since they can only receive their financial contribution once these are arranged. Students must notify the International Mobility Office of their bank account numbers and tax numbers. Erasmus + students do not need to open a bank account or apply for a tax number.

Social Security Number

Only students with Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship will need to apply for the ir Social Security Number (SSN) or (in Hungarian) TAJ number. After arranging their accommodation and registering th emselves at the immigration office, the International Mobility Office at the University of Pannonia will request their SSN.

Please note: Requesting a SSN number is only possible after notifying the International Mobility Office of your residence permit from the Immigration Office

Things to do upon arrival: Stipendium Hungaricum students

For Stipendium Hungaricum students, the following official procedures are crucial after arrival:

1.) Students with SH scholarships will need to request and fill out an app- location form to enter the ‘NEK’ - National Card System. Students will need to fill out their profile in the Neptun system as well.

2.) Residence permit (detailed information at the International Office upon enrolment)

3.) Student card (visit Kormányablak, where you ONLY need your personal data, do cuments and a student status certificate from the International Office) - it takes some time for the cards to arrive, but you can enjoy the travel discounts with a temporary 'student paper' that the International Office can issue.

Social Security Number

Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship will need to apply for their Social Security Num ber (SSN) or (in Hungarian) TAJ number. After arranging their accommodation and registering at the immigration office, the International Office at the Univers- ity of Pan nonia will request their SSN.

Once you have got your residence permit, we can start arranging your national health care card. Having received the residence permit, it is your task to open a bank account at any bank you like.

Things to do upon arrival: Erasmus + exchange students

If you wish to stay in Hungary for more than 90 days, you will need to have a registration certificate issued at the local immigration office. Application for a registration certificate must be submitted to the regional foreigners policing authority unit within 30 days to your arrival.

Neptun

1. Subject registration

Important! For new students in the first semester, the International Office will register the courses for your subjects.

For the second and subsequent semesters, you can register according to the following: Subjects——Register for subject Next, please select the semester, subject type, and language.

At lastly, choose the subject you want to study and complete the registration.

2. Registration for examination

As each semester of classes is 14 weeks, there is an exam period lasting 6 weeks. You can register according to the following: Exams——Exam registration

Please select the current semester and the subject for the exam of which you want to register..

3. Payment of accommodation fees

For self-funded students, if you live in one of the dormitories provided by the university.

Fish soup, stew, lángos, dobos torta - the dishes that almost everyone loves in our litt le country. If you love Hungarian dishes, this collection is for you!

SOUPS: Gulyás – Goulash

Goulash is a very popular Hungarian soup. It consists of large pieces of beef, potatoes, ve getables, a little paprika and hot pepper. Originally made by Gulyások (beef shepherds), goulash is simply a great dish: hearty, cosy and hot.

Halászlé

Traditional Hungarian fish soup, consists of paprika-flavoured fish soup and thick slices of river fish. Although it looks rather simple, it's delicious. Traditionally, fish soup is made outdoors from freshly caught fish.

Jókai-bableves

Bean soup with sour cream and pig leg. The soup was named after the famous Hungarian novelist Mór Jókai.

Gyümölcs leves

A cold, sweet soup made from fruits (usually from cherries) served with cream and sugar.

MAIN COURSES:

Csirke Paprikás

Perhaps one of Hungary's best known food (thanks to the film When Harry Met Saly ly), chicken paprikash is hot, spicy, creamy, meaty delicacy, usually served with noodles (dumplings) and sour creams

Lángos

A plate of fried dough with sour cream and cheese piled on top. Garlic can be used as an extra topping.

Pörkölt

It is made from stewed meat (often beef or pork), tomatoes, peppers and onions, served with Hungarian "noodles".

Rakott krumpli

A baked stew with layers of potatoes, eggs, sausage, sour cream and cheese.

Hortobágyi Húsos Palacsinta

Hortobágyi húsos palacsinta is a Hungarian speciality, a savoury pancake filled with min ced roast meat. On menus it is usually served as a starter, but because of its filling charac ter it can also be eaten as a main course.

Töltött káposzta

Large cabbage leaves stuffed with cooked minced meat and rice, topped with sour cream.

PASTRIES, DESSERTS AND SWEETS:

Dobos torta

The cake named after József C. Dobos, a Hungarian confectioner. A sponge cake layered with a chocolate buttercream, topped with caramelized sugar and topped with walnuts.

Kakaóscsiga

Kids’ favorite chocolate snail is a spiral pastry filled with chocolate, usually we have it for breakfast with a cup of hot milk.

Kürtős kalács

Originally a Transylvanian pastry, which is a dough made of spirals, rolled up on a woo den rod and baked on coals. After baking, they are often coated in cinnamon, sugar, co coa, nuts or coconut flakes.

Madártej

This is a dessert with vanilla custard floating on a soft egg foam, also known as floating islands.

Túrórudi

A dark chocolate bar filled with sweet curd, available in different flavours or with a jam filling.

Somlói galuska

A dessert consisting of three different sponge cakes (plain, nut, chocolate) with raisins and walnuts, topped with a little dark chocolate sauce and whipped cream.
