Each year, we move the goods vital to everyday life across millions of nautical miles. Every journey is powered by our experience, bound by precision, and made possible by the skilled men and women serving our customers on land and at sea.
We own and operate tanker vessels in the small and intermediate segment (>20,000 dwt) and transport a wide range of liquid cargoes, including chemicals, fame and vegetable oils, petroleum products, lube oils, and fuel oil. We serve vital regions such as Canada, the Caribbean & US Gulf, South America, North West Europe, the Mediterranean & Black Sea, West Africa, the Indian Ocean, and trans-Atlantic routes.
Our extensive global reach enables us to provide tailored solutions across key markets, with offices in Denmark, France, Spain, Turkey, and USA.
Safe and cost-effective transportation of chemicals and oil requires in-depth knowledge of the cargo we are handling, and an understanding of the people involved.
Our dedication to ensuring great chemistry between the people involved leads to long-lasting relationships built on trust.
All this is made possible by carefully selecting and training our staff both ashore and at sea to meet your requirements and those set forth by both national and foreign maritime authorities.
Our values are guiding principles that support our every decision, action, and relation:
We are dedicated
We are open-minded
We are trustworthy
EMPOWERING TOMORROW'S SEAFARERS
Uni-Tankers, in collaboration with Danish Shipping, presents the Cadet Strategy 2024, aimed at addressing the challenges of low retention rates among Danish maritime cadets.
The purpose of this strategy is to engage European cadets in maritime careers and retain them within our company. Through this strategy, we aim to create a supportive environment conducive to the professional growth and development of cadets, ultimately contributing to the sustainability of our workforce and the maritime industry as a whole.
CURRENT STATUS
As of April 2024, Uni-Tankers employs a total 383 seafarers, including 23 former cadets, of which 4 are European. Currently 7 seafarers are female.
Currently, we have 8 cadets enrolled in our fleet.
Since 2014, we have accepted 72 cadets, with a retention rate of 28%, hereof 5 European seafarers. These statistics highlight the need for proactive measures to improve cadet engagement and retention.
GOALS FOR 2024
Acceptance of European Cadets
We aim to accept a minimum of 2 Engine and 2 Deck European cadets annually, fostering diversity and international collaboration within our workforce.
Retention and Employment
Our goal is to retain and employ at least 50% of cadets within our fleet for a minimum of 5 years post-graduation, ensuring a sustainable pipeline of skilled professionals for our company.
Female Cadet Graduation
We are committed to graduating a minimum of 1 female cadet each year, promoting gender diversity and inclusivity within the maritime industry.
FILIPINO MAAP CADETS
Uni-Tankers has established a successful partnership with the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP), sponsoring 18 Filipino cadets since 2018 equivalent to 3-4 cadets a year.
Our retention rate for Filipino seafarers stands at 100% within the last 12 months, underscoring the effectiveness of our collaboration with MAAP in recruiting and retaining talented individuals.
EUROPEAN CADETS
Our strategy focuses on providing comprehensive information and support to European cadets interested in pursuing careers at Uni-Tankers. Through targeted outreach efforts and promotional activities, we aim to attract high-caliber candidates and showcase the opportunities available within our company.
SCHOOL VISITS AND PROMOTION
Uni-Tankers is committed to fostering strong partnerships with maritime schools in the Philippines, Poland, and Denmark. Through regular visits and promotional activities, we aim to raise awareness of career opportunities at Uni-Tankers and provide students with valuable insights into the maritime industry.
We are committed and proactively visiting key institutions in the Philippines, Denmark and Poland at least once a year, either through event invitations or through our own initiatives. These interactions will not only enhance visibility but also foster knowledge exchange and cultivate interest in our company.
FROM CADET TO FUTURE MARITIME LEADER
At Uni-Tankers, we don't simply seek short-term interns passing through our ranks. Cadetship marks the inception of your career journey with us. We're on the lookout for future Chief Engineers and Captains who will become the bedrock of our company.
We carefully consider the number of cadets we accept, ensuring that we can provide fulltime employment opportunities later on. Our application and interview processes mirror the thoroughness applied when hiring senior officers, including screening through applications, interviews, and personality assessments.
We value high skill and commitment, which we duly recognize with competitive rewards. While salary is not obligatory, we remunerate all our cadets.
Your engineering career at Uni-Tankers commences with your bachelor internship, and navigational careers begin with the first internship during education. Previous sailing experience is advantageous but not mandatory; what matters most to us are your dedication, ambition, and commitment.
Submitting your application early allows us to plan and prepare thoroughly for your cadetship.
In the following sections we outline potential career paths as either an Engineer or Navigator at Uni-Tankers.
DANISH ENGINEERING CAREER PATHS
Upon completing your bachelor's degree in marine engineering, gaining sailing time and experience becomes essential for advancing to higher licenses. As previously mentioned, our goal is to guide you towards becoming a Senior Officer within our ranks.
OPTION 1: ACCELERATED "2:1" ROTATION PROGRAM FOR ENGINEERS
This program offers an expedited path to obtaining your Senior Officer license. By opting for the 2:1 rotation, you not only fast-track your career but also enjoy the benefits of higher rank and salary. However, success in this program hinges on collaboration with highly educated, experienced, and senior seafarers who enrich our fleet. Here's how the program works:
Cadetship to bachelor: 3 months sailing
Junior Engineer to Watch license: 3 months sailing + 1.5 months home
Third Engineer to Senior license: 3 months sailing + 1.5 months home (repeated 4 times)
This structure enables you to attain your Senior Officer license in 2.5 years, compared to the 3.5 years required for the 1:1 rotation. Following the attainment of your Senior license, you'll enter a 1:1 rotation with another officer, spending 2 months onboard followed by 2 months at home.
OPTION 2: FLEXIBLE 1:1 ROTATION FOR ENGINEERS
For those whose personal circumstances, such as family commitments, make Option 1 less feasible, we offer the 1:1 rotation as a viable alternative. While this option extends the timeline to obtaining your Senior Officer License, we remain dedicated to providing you with the best possible start to your engineering career.
Promotions to Second Engineer and beyond, including Chief Engineer roles, are considered based on performance evaluations, accumulated experience, and fleet vacancy. Notably, 12 months of sailing time as a Senior Officer qualifies you for a Chief Engineer license.
These career paths underscore our commitment to nurturing and advancing engineering talent within Uni-Tankers, ensuring a skilled and proficient workforce to meet the demands of our fleet.
DANISH NAVIGATION CAREER PATHS
In accordance with Danish regulatory standards, completion of 6 + 9 months of sailing time is required before achieving your bachelor's degree as a Master Mariner. The following outlines a sample cadetship schedule, which will be tailored to accommodate your academic calendar and personal needs:
Upon completing your bachelor's degree, you will transition into a career as an Officer in a 1:1 rotation, spending 2 months at sea followed by 2 months at home. Promotions will be considered based on performance evaluations, accrued experience, and fleet availability. A typical promotion pathway is outlined below:
3rd officer
Achieved after completing 2-3 contracts with favorable recommendations.
2nd officer Chief Officer
Attained after completing 3-4 contracts with commendations.
Earned after completing 5-8 contracts with commendations, culminating in promotion to Captain.
Similar to our Engineering counterparts, we offer a 2:1 rotation plan to accelerate experience accumulation and increase promotion prospects. A customized plan and agreement will be formulated with you before the conclusion of your degree program. These career pathways exemplify our commitment to nurturing and advancing navigational talent within Uni-Tankers, ensuring a skilled and proficient cadre of maritime professionals to navigate the challenges of our fleet.
CHARTING A COURSE FOR POLISH CADETS
At Uni-Tankers, we have a longstanding tradition of welcoming Polish seafarers into our ranks, recognizing the strong educational foundation they bring and the skilled, trustworthy professionals they become. In line with this, we extend a warm invitation to Polish students to consider joining our team.
We understand that in Poland, aspiring seafarers have the option to attend various public or private schools to obtain their seafaring licenses. While school semesters and program durations may vary, the requirements set by the Polish Maritime Administration for sea service remain consistent. Regardless of your choice of school, we are committed to accommodating your educational needs and structuring your sailing experience accordingly.
NAVIGATION CAREER PATHS POLISH CADETS
To attain the Engineering Watch License, aspiring engineers need to complete 6 months of sea service as an Engine Cadet, followed by an additional 6 months as a Junior Engineer. Here's an example of the progression to obtain the senior license:
Junior Engineer to Watch License: Third Engineer to Senior License:
Promotion to higher ranks, such as Second Engineer and Chief Engineer, is based on performance evaluations, experience, and fleet vacancies. Twelve months of sailing time as a Senior Engineer, along with passing the requisite exams, qualifies individuals for the Chief Engineer license.
NAVIGATION PATHWAY POLISH CADETS
Obtaining the Chief Officer license requires a total of 12 months of sailing, either during or after completing maritime school. Here's an outline of the pathway:
Public Maritime School:
8 semesters of school + 6 months sailing
1 semester of school + 6 months sailing (totaling 5.5 years)
Private Maritime School:
2 + 2 semesters of school + 12 months sailing
1 semester of school (totaling 3.5 years)
To advance to the Master Mariner license, individuals need one year of sea service as a Chief Officer before undertaking the required exams.
The promotion trajectory for all officers at Uni-Tankers mirrors that of Danish navigation cadets, as explained earlier, ensuring equal opportunities for career progression and development.
EXPLORING THE SEAS: INSIGHTS FROM CHIEF ENGINEER OLE BERG'S MARITIME JOURNEY WITH UNI-TANKERS
Why did you want to be a seafarer?
I did it because I would learn a lot about different technical systems, and work in a different environment where you are challenged by the fact you sometimes are in the middle of nowhere and you must find the solutions yourself.
What was the best part of your cadetship?
The best part was that you get to experience a different working environment, working with different cultures and at the same time see part of the world.
Why should you become a cadet with Uni-Tankers?
The fact that Uni-Tankers is a family-owned business, and the short way in communication from the vessel to the office, and even top management, is a very large part of why Uni-Tankers was very attractive to me.
What did you wish you knew before going to sea the first time?
That there is a lot of free time onboard after end work and the evenings can sometimes be long, you need to be good reading books, watching movies or have other interests that you can use the evening time on by yourself.
What is the best part of your job today?
The best part is that when you are at work you are at work, but at the same time when you are home, you are free and don’t have to think about anything else.
Ole Berg, Chief Engineer. Engine Cadet in 2014.

The constant challenges and development, while gaining hands-on and practical skills and the meet with different people along the way.
Why should anyone become a cadet at Uni-Tankers?
For the professional and supportive environment Uni-Tankers provide during the cadet ship, which paves both professional and personal growth during the cadet ship.
What did you wish you knew before you went to sea the first time?
A bit about what life at sea is really about, what to expect when joining the vessel and who to contact in case of different scenarios that might occur.
What are you looking forward to becoming an officer?
To make the critical decisions, take a more serious role along the crew and furthering my knowledge and experience in maritime operations. Essentially handling all the maritime aspects from safe navigation to safe cargo handling.

MENTORSHIP PROGRAM SETS CADETS ON COURSE FOR EXCELLENCE
In our commitment to fostering close dialogue and ensuring our cadets feel supported and empowered, we've instituted a comprehensive Mentorship Program for all cadets. Two months prior to your first embarkation, you'll be paired with a Mentor, a dedicated professional from our Middelfart office.
Your Mentor will be selected from either the Operations, Chartering, or Technical Department, depending on your field of study as a navigator or engineer. Your initial meeting, conducted either online or in person, will serve as an introduction to each other, our company, and your first vessel.
Throughout your cadetship, your Mentor will maintain regular contact, either through phone calls or in-person visits during your embarkations. Following each embarkation, you'll have a debriefing session with your Mentor to discuss relevant topics, share learnings, reflect on your development, and outline future plans.
Upon completing your cadetship, whether before or after obtaining your bachelor's degree, you'll be invited to an info-day at our office. Here, you'll gain insight into the various departments and workflows relevant to your role as an officer, further enriching your understanding of our operations and preparing you for your career journey ahead.
