If you like to save money and still take away good quality clothing take a look at the Moonlight Stores in the villages of Garapan and Chalan Kanoa. The Garapan Store is across from the Mobile gas station on Chalan Pale Arnold (Middle Road) and is the smaller brother of their big clothing and accessories store in Chalan Kanoa. You can pick up a nice quality ball cap hat or a pop art T-Shirt for under $10 and Jeans for $15. A big selection of women’s wear at very low prices is also available. Also try the 99 Cent Store in Garapan for some low-priced merchandise or the Dolphin Wholesale store in San Jose Village.

If you like to go to one store and have a chance to find many different kinds of merchandise then one of Saipan’s department stores would be a good choice for you. The best department store for tourist shopping on Garapan’s Beach Road or on Managaha are the I LOVE SAIPAN stores. Every imaginable Saipan Souvenir is available there and many you never thought of. The whole store is a photo opportunity, too.

The store is beautifully arranged and kept meticulously clean and neat. There is some excellent men’s and women’s clothing available at reasonable prices. Look for a large stock of tropical shirts and some great bargains in the mid-priced range from the Everblue factory outlet store located inside the I love Saipan stores.

Also in the middle of the price spectrum, stores like Joeten Shopping Center in Garapan (or the bigger store in Susupe) offer souvenirs to take back home to your friends: food, apparel, toys for the kids and even housewares and sporting goods. Both stores are close to many of Saipan’s major hotels. Also look into the Triple J Wholesale store in Susupe for some good US retail bargains. Triple J is ONLY open Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Tribes Marianas and the 670 Rock Steady shops both offer distinctly local Saipan custom-made fashion apparel for the young at heart at moderate prices. If you want sporting goods, go to Fishing Tackle store where they have all kinds of sports equipment and supplies, not just fishing stuff.

Here are the 4 most important tips to make your purse a money magnet: 1. Order – keep your purse free of clutter and carry only what you need. Do NOT collect receipts or anything that represents debt or spending money in your purse.

NO junk, like sweet wrappers, old business cards or expired membership cards. Keep your credit cards to a minimum.

2. Space – sort your notes and keep them neatly in your purse. This shows that you respect and appreciate your money, and always leave room in your purse for more!

来说，也有好日子么？你能够利用 风水来使自己的购物之行变得成功 么？当然这里我们要定义一下“成 功”，它当然不是指你买了一大堆 东西，但是它是不是代表你找到了 物美价廉的商品呢？ 以下是我的一些购物小贴士： 1. 如果今天心情不好，千万不要去 买东西。如果你今天无论是有任何 的愿意让你不开心（饿了，累了， 脾气不好或者是觉得孤单），那你 还说再等等吧，选择别的日子去 购物。 2. 列一张清单。在你购物之前，一 定要列一张清单来弄清楚你到底需 要买些什么。一定要记住，最重要 的风水原则就是要买那些你自己需 要或者是非常喜欢的东西。千万不 要因为某些商品在打折或者促销就 买，这类东西大多情况下都以“废 品”而告终。 3. 给自己设定一个预算。这样的话 能够控制你的预算，你当然不想最 后让你觉得自己的钱包有个无底洞 （不好的风水） 。 4. 时间掌控。挑选最适合自己的时 间，那时候你知道自己的状态是最 佳的，这样你就可以挑选到好的商 品，做出好的决定。

here are “good” days for travel, business, getting married, etc, but are there also good days for shopping? Can you use feng shui to have a successful shopping day? That of course depends on your definition of success – does it mean you buy a LOT of things, or does it mean you find great bargains?

Here are my favorite shopping tips: 1. DON’T go shopping when you are having a bad day.

If you are not feeling good about yourself for whatever reason (being hungry, tired, grumpy, lonely), nothing will be right. Wait for a better day.

2. Make a list. Know what you want or need before you set out to shop. Remember the most important feng shui rule to only surround yourself with things you need or love. Don’t buy something just because it was on sale. That will likely end up as clutter, and we all know what feng shui says about that.

3. Set a budget. That way you can keep control over your finances. You don’t want to get the feeling that there is a hole in your wallet (bad feng shui!).

4. Timing – pick the best time for you, when you know that you are the most alert and positive. Then you will be able to make good choices and good decisions.

Of course it never hurts to consult the feng shui calendar and check if your shopping day is a good day for your animal sign! n

ach Thursday, Saipan comes alive in a special way at night. At around five o’clock in the afternoon till late, Garapan Street closes to vehicular traffic as stalls of all makes and sizes pop up along the sides, and vendors pull out their wares offering many items from food and drinks to local handicrafts, clothing and other merchandise.

Pedestrian traffic, made up of tourists and locals, slowly builds up through the night to enjoy and partake in the vibrant scene of this traditional weekly island affair.

LAND SIZE. Saipan is about 12.5 miles long and 5.5 miles wide, with a total land area of 46.5 square miles. That is about the size of San Francisco in California. This also means Saipan is slightly larger than Hong Kong but four and one half times smaller than Guam.

TREASURE ISLAND. The NMI Museum of History and Culture on Saipan holds one of the largest collections of treasures from Spanish galleon Nuestra Senora de la Concepcion, which sank in 1638 near Saipan’s southernmost part while filled with gold, ivory, silk, porcelain and other priced items.

GREATEST ELEVATION CHANGE.

Saipan’s highest point at 1,554 feet high is Mount Tapochau, which rises near the deepest part of the world’s oceans called Marianas Trench at 36,201 feet. If one drops Mount Everest -- the world’s highest mountain -- into the Marianas Trench, there would still be over 7,000 feet of seawater above its peak. So Mount Tapochau’s rise from the ocean floor makes it the world’s greatest elevation change over such a short distance.

AMERICAN MEMORIAL PARK One of the most beautiful places to experience Saipan’s natural beauty and learn about its historic past is the sprawling 133acre American Memorial Park in Garapan. Suicide Cliff and Banzai Cliff in Marpi are widely popular, lending dramatic cliff views of the blue expanse, lush vegetation and wide blue skies. While most of Saipan’s views are out in the sun, there are also those below the surface such as Kalabera Cave and Honeycomb or Crystal Cave, so-called for its curtains of icicle-like stalactites and stalagmites. Kalabera Cave was home to ancient Chamorros (faint drawings from that period can still be seen on the left side as you enter the cave), a makeshift hospital for wounded Japanese soldiers during World War II, and a hiding place for civilians during the war.

The Taste of the Marianas International Food Festival & Beer Garden, held every Saturday of May, is the most flavorful way to celebrate the tourism month on Saipan. Held during one Saturday in May or June, the annual Saipan Agricultural Fair showcases the best and healthiest livestock, fruits and vegetables. The Marianas Wind Kite Festival is on a weekend in March or April and come September and October, the International Festival of Cultures takes place.

This crown jewel of Saipan’s tourism, offers beach lounging, picnics, swimming, snorkeling, parasailing, banana boat riding, wind surfing, undersea walking and other marine sports. This sandy islet is the most visited tourist spot and also serves as a marine conservation area.

Nature trails and hiking spots Despite its name, Forbidden Island welcomes trekkers with amazing views starting from the lookout’s steep and rugged trails, to the rocky beach and plateau.

However, it’s not called “Forbidden” for nothing so we highly recommend an official guided tour when planning this hike. For the most postcard-perfect island backdrop, go to the Bird Island lookout. A trail located about a mile before is also worth the adventure.

Other favorite nature trails lead to the Old Man by the Sea, Jeffrey’s Beach or Suicide Cliff.

Every Thursday afternoon, at the Garapan Street Market, you can find souvenir items and many local food choices for only $5. There is also a flea market every Saturday at the Marianas Business Plaza in Susupe. Hotel shops also offer an abundance of island necessities and I Love Saipan is the must-goto store for that must-have Saipan-da!

uam is considered the jewel of Micronesia, an archipelago of more than 2,000 islands spread over 2,000 nautical miles across the Pacific Ocean.

Micronesia aptly translates to ‘many small islands’ and the islands of the Marianas belong to it.

Lying south of the Marianas Islands, Guam is the largest island in the entire Micronesia. It is a US Territory of 160,000 residents and like most islands in the area, the main income is derived from tourism. Together with the Chamorros, its indigenous people who settled the island approximately 4,000 years ago, the island is a melting pot of a variety of cultures from Portuguese, Spanish and Filipino, to name a few.

FOOD:

Plenty of fresh seafood surrounding the island means there is no lack of options. Try fresh fish, octopus or lobster, grilled or baked with vegetables or fruit. There are also plenty of sashimi and creative seafood preparations unique to the Pacific.

But seafood is not the only option in Guam.

Because of so many influences in this region, travelers will not be disappointed to find Chamorro, Chinese, European, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, Mexican, Thai and Vietnamese restaurants, each with its own ambiance and style for discerning diners.

Two restaurants to visit are Proa Restaurant in Tumon and Table35 in Tamuning. With a mix of BBQ and Pacific Rim dishes, Proa is popular with locals and visitors alike. Be prepared to wait at dinnertime, but come hungry. The tuna poke as well as the desserts served in their café side are musttrys. Table 35 in Tamuning offers American & Asian fusion cuisine with a nice ambiance and friendly service. Highly recommended dishes: miso steak and any of their steak and seafood combinations.

BEACHES:

To work off all the delicious food, make the time to visit Ypao Beach Park, which has a large grassy park behind the beachfront. Good for families, there are picnic tables, BBQ grills and areas to play games. The water at Ypao is clear and shallow, with many varieties of beautiful fish and coral, making it an excellent spot for snorkeling. There are also showers to rinse off after your day in the ocean.

More adventuresome travelers should head to the northern side of the island to Ritidian Beach in Agana.

It can be reached via a rough trek and the beach is much more secluded and away from the crowds.

Located in a national reserve, the water is clear and perfect for a swim, but further out riptides and strong currents can be dangerous. Ritidian is a good place to enjoy isolation and relaxation in a beautiful setting of sand and sea. Stay in Agana and try surfing with the friendly staff at Lotus Surf Shop. Accommodating to all skill levels, even beginners can try their hand at “hanging ten” on the waves.

CULTURAL EXTRAS:

If you are returning from Ritidian, be sure to take a detour and visit Two Lovers Point (Puntan dos Amantes) around sunset. The breathtaking views make it Guam’s most visited tourist spot. A romantic legend about a wealthy Spanish aristocrat girl and a native Chamorro warrior leaping to their deaths on this cliff adds to the allure of this national park.

Wednesday nights at Chamorro Village give visitors a taste of the indigenous culture of Guam. There is an open-air market where vendors sell traditional Chamorro clothing, jewelry and food. At the same time, entertainment is free with dancing and music for all. A great place to purchase some souvenirs to take back home, expect it to get crowded as the evening continues.

The Guam Pacific War Museum accurately displays both sides of the story of the World War II fighting between Japanese and American forces. Organized as a series of bunkers, with many artifacts, it is a reminder of the strong ties between the Chamorro and American people. No entrance fee, but donations are encouraged.

ecember 5th, 2015 saw the 9th running of the Hell of the Marianas (HOM) on-road bicycle race in the Northern Marianas Islands. Nearly 150 bike riders participated in this event that is getting more popular every year. The course covers 100 Km (62 miles) up and down the steep hills of Saipan and is a demanding race, one that requires technical riding skill, a high fitness level and a lot of stamina. Open for all levels, the organizers have set up various “relay” race events so teams of riders can participate.

This means riders can race 25Km or 50Km instead of the 100Km race and allows teams of two, three or four riders to challenge a part of the course passing a baton on to the next team member for the next leg of the competition. 43 racers chose to compete as part of a team, with two-man team Romeo Ampit & Rommel Isid leading the way with a relay total time of 4:15.26.

This year offered an exciting finish in the pro/elite individual category of the HOM century cycle race. By a margin of mere seconds, the first place was won by seasoned pro rider Ryutaro Nakamura from Japan, narrowly beating Chien Liang Chen, Wu Hsing Yang and Hsuan Ping Hsu, who are all from Taiwan and placed 2nd 3rd and 4th respectively. What made the race even more exciting was the filming by a popular TV show, Taiwan Moments, documenting the race adventures of the Action Cycling Team from Taichung.

The 2015 race saw participants from Russia, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, USA, Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands (CNMI) join the action.

Riders from anywhere in the world are encouraged to participate. You can bring your own bike or you can rent or borrow one once you get here. Helmets are required for all participants.

While there are many classes of racers, based on age and sex of the riders, there are two main categories depending on what style of bike is being used.

Mountain bikers are allowed to compete in this on-road course but they can only modify their bikes by using 1” tires, not the super skinny tires used by road bike racers. A Mountain Bike is heavier which means that they are disadvantaged. To illustrate, in the 2015 HOM race the 1st finisher on a mountain bike was almost an hour behind the 2:54.50 course time of race winner Nakamura and the Taiwan riders. The race begins at first light so the quicker riders can finish in the cool of the morning in tropical Saipan. Slower riders can take 7 hours to finish and are subject to the full noonday sun toward the end.

各路媒体前来支持Dynamic Air包机服务 DYNAMIC AIR BRINGS MEDIA TO SUPPORT CHARTER FLIGHTS 为了支持Dynamic Air在中国农历新年以及其他旅游旺季推出的直飞包机 服务，Dynamic Air与马里亚纳旅游局邀请中国各大城市主流媒体代表前 来参观。代表团由来自各大城市的10家传统媒体以及新媒体组成，包括： 微博、腾讯、京华时报、航美传媒、环球时报、环球旅行、品味生活、 新浪以及北京青年周刊。 In support of additional direct charter flights launched for the Lunar New Year holiday and other seasonal travel, Dynamic Air and the Marianas Visitors Authority (MVA) had collaborated on a FAM tour with media reps from major cities in China. The group was comprised of 10 print and on-line media from major cities in China: Weibo.com, TENCENT, Beijing Times, Air Media, Global Times, Global Travel, Lifestyle, SINA, and Beijing Youth Weekly.

“跟我一起去旅行” 将塞班马拉松以及马 里亚纳岛的文化发扬 来自中国的“跟我一起去旅行”节目在2016年 2月15日的节目中像广大跑步爱好者以及家庭 介绍了塞班岛马拉松大赛以及其丰富的历史文 化。该节目在中国广东地区有1.8亿人次观看。

“TRAVEL WITH ME” PROMOTES SAIPAN MARATHON, NMI CULTURE China’s “Travel With Me” television program will be enticing runners and families to the Northern Mariana Islands with its Feb. 15, 2016 edition. The show has promoted the Saipan Marathon and the opportunity to experience indigenous culture, to an estimated 180 million viewers in the Guangdong region.

马里亚纳旅游局在Instagram上开展比赛 #MVA40 为了庆祝马里亚纳旅游局成立40周年，以及 推广塞班岛的旅游业，特别举办了Instagram比 赛，参赛者需要添加MVA40标签。

参加本次比赛不需要支付任何的费用，只需 要登录Instagram并且在发布照片时使用标签 (#MVA40)就能够参加本次活动了。每个月的主 题如下：

整个比赛从3月1日一直到12月31日，配上每个 月不同的主题。每个月获赞最多的照片将会获 得一个证书或者是价值25美金的礼物。

三月：发一张塞班铁人三项挑战赛或者 XTERRA比赛的照片。

九月：发一张国际文化节的照片。 十月：发一张体现当地文化的照片。 十一月：发一张社区的照片。 十二月：发一张马里亚纳圣诞岛的照片。

四月：发一张塞班马拉松的照片。 旅游局常务董事Perry Tenorio说到：我们经常 说旅游是大家的事情，所以在庆祝马里亚纳 旅游局成立40周年之际，我们给每个人机会来 让他们表示自己对旅游的热爱，并有机会赢 得奖品。我们希望广大群众都能参与到这次 Instagram的活动中。

MVA LAUNCHES INSTAGRAM CONTEST #MVA40 In celebration of Marianas Visitors Authority’s (MVA) 40th Anniversary, the visitor’s bureau has launched an Instagram contest under the hashtag #MVA40 to promote tourism.

The contest, running March 1 through Dec. 31, 2016, features a different theme each month and will award a gift certificate or other prizes valued at $25 for the most “liked” photo on Instagram fitting the month’s theme.

“We always say ‘tourism is everybody’s business,’ so this year’s celebration of the MVA’s 40th anniversary is an opportunity for our community to win some great prizes demonstrating how they’re engaged

in the industry,” said MVA Managing Director Perry Tenorio. “We look forward to the public’s participation in the contest.”

No purchase is necessary. To enter the Contest, access Instagram and post a photo using the hashtag #MVA40. 当“台湾时刻”遇上“ 马里亚纳地狱 之门挑战赛” “TAIWAN MOMENTS” FEATURES HELL OF THE MARIANAS 2015年12月5日，台湾电视台“台湾时刻”栏目 组携手大学生骑行团”Action Cycling”在“马里 亚纳地狱 之门挑战赛”中做了一起长达一小时 的节目，同时还介绍了塞班岛的著名旅游景点。 “Taiwan Moments” of Taiwan TV covered the college student team Action Cycling Team during the Hell of the Marianas century cycle on Dec. 5, 2015, for a 1-hour show also featuring Saipan’s tourist attractions.

中国游客来塞班旅游 的人数增长近50%。 根据马里亚纳旅游局的数据显示，在2016年1 月，共计46011名旅客来塞班岛，天宁岛以及罗 塔岛游玩，而在2015年1月这个数据是45688人。 但来自中国的游客数量跟去年1月相比，增长了 48%，达到了20615人次。由于Dynamic Air在1月 份新增了从天津、沈阳、济南的航班，Century Tour也新增了从杭州到塞班的航班，马里亚纳旅 游局将重点开发二线城市的旅游市场。

YOY CHINESE VISITORS INCREASES BY ALMOST 50%!

According to the Marianas Visitors Authority (MVA), arrivals to the islands of Saipan, Tinian and Rota registered 46,011 visitors in January 2016, compared to 45,688 visitors received in January 2015. Arrivals from China nearly doubled in the month, rising 48 percent compared to January 2015 to reach 20,615 visitors. With new flights from Tianjin, Shenyang and Jinan operated by Dynamic Airways at the beginning of January, as well as a new flight from Hangzhou to Saipan operated by Century Tours, continued rapid growth from the China market is projected for the coming year as the MVA’s promotions penetrate deeper into secondary markets of China which until now have been largely untapped.
