In other people’s minds the only thing that is doing rounds is the day set aside for love Valentine’s Day. A lot is being thrown around to what real is the meaning of this day, with things like it’s the day of celebrating the death of Saint Valentine who died many years ago, some say it is a day for the retailers to cough up more money from people in exchange of the chocolates and flowers that people buy and a large portion saying it is the day to show your better half that you love them. Hmmm……. You might be lucky if cupid strikes again on the 14th, but is it worth it to show each other how you feel on only this day? Love must be evident all year long to prove that it’s genuine, but who am I? It’s just my own opinion! Sis Dee Lanie will draw closure of the love issue on her Tranforming Lives with D33 Lanie column. Enjoy and share the love throughout the month. #HappyFebruary

Real names “Mahlatse Molapo” from Soshanguve (Township), Pretoria “Cap City” being one of the aspects that influenced his musical journey. Crispy states that a black community always expressed their life struggles and political issues in a form of entertainment, in this case for him – music of the Hip-Hop genre. He has always had his views about life which he felt the need to share with any one possible.

.

This continued as he grew into a young man, which exposed him into a different lifestyle that helped him gain a bigger audience. Life’s experiences continued to puzzle him which inspired him to use his musical talent as a platform to share his views. In 2008 he recorded his first track “I do me” which made him realize that his the voice of millions of people, peers related to the song and inspired most to stand for what they believe in, he continued with recording his music and got signed by Loud House Ent. Then started working alongside Frost and Notty Bwoyz which recorded and produced his first debut mixtape entitled “1Mili 0'clock”. “1Mili 0 clock” is a collection of ten songs that defines a determined individual who wants to occupy power, respect and a high position in society. The unofficial mixtape release in Pretoria (Cap City) received raved reviews on local radio stations and internet music sites which rated Crispy as one of Cap City’s top rapper to date. The hit single "Been Around The Block" became the most downloaded track in just a few weeks from release that speaks of Crispy. However each and every individual can listen to the tape, whether young or old, everyone will identify to the lyrics. The promotion of the mixtape continued in Pretoria via radio stations, music blogs, live performances which gave Crispy the confidence and felt the need to share his music nationally and ultimately worldwide. Word on the Streets with Slim Lee What is the devil???? Little Johnny’s Corner Jokes LITTLE JOHNNY WANTS TO SETTLE DOWN

A teacher was giving a lesson on the circulation of blood. Trying to make the matter clearer, he said: "Now class, if I stood on my head, the blood as you know, would run into it and I should turn red in the face." "Yes, sir," the class said. "Then why is it that while I am standing upright in an ordinary position the blood doesn't run into my feet?" Little Johnny shouted, "'Cause your feet ain't empty

THE DEVIL IS ANYTHING THAT STANDS BEFORE YOU AND THE SUPREME CREATOR. A DEVIL DOESN’T ALWAYS HAVE TO BE A DRAGON THAT WAS CAST OUT OF HEAVEN, ABSOLUTELY NOT, A DEVIL CAN BE YOUR WORK, MONEY, FRIENDS OR PERHAPS YOUR OWN TONGUE. EXODUS 15, ALL IN ALL THE RED SEA WAS JUST A WIDE WET LAND FILLED WITH WATER BUT NOW THAT THE ISREALITES WERE ABOUT TO GO TO THEIR PROMISE LAND, THE RED SEA BECAME A PROBLEM. IN OTHER WORDS THE RED SEA BECAME THE ISREALITES’ DEVIL. ANYTIME YOU EXPERIENCE DIFFICULTIES IN YOUR LIFE JUST KNOW YOU ARE CLOSE TO YOUR OWN PROMISE LAND, JUST KNOW THAT GOD IS ABOUT TO DISPLAY HIS GOOD WORKS IN YOU. THE ISREALITES COULD NOT GO BACK BECAUSE THE EGYPTIANS WERE BEHIND THEM, MOSES DID NOT TELL THEM TO RETRIEVE BACK BECAUSE YOUR BACK DOESN’T ALLOW YOU TO FIGHT, YOUR PAST CANT FIGHT YOUR PRESENT BATTLES, NOW IS NOW. THE BRITISH PEOPLE WOULD HAVE NEVER DISCOVERED GOLD IN SOUTH AFRICA IF THEY HAD NOT MOVED FROM THEIR OWN COUNTRIES TO JOURNEY INTO SOUTH AFRICA. ANYTIME YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE GREAT IN LIFE YOU SHOULD LEARN TO COME OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE, ANYTIME YOU HAVE FEAR JUST KNOW THAT YOU ARE OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE. MOVE AHEAD, PERSUE YOUR DREAM BECAUSE THEY WILL NEVER COME TO YOU. TREAT EVERY CHALLENGE LIKE INFLUENCE, THERE’S ALWAYS A REMEDY BUT NO CURE. CHALLENGES ARE MEANT TO COME OUR WAY ALL THE DAYS OF OUR LIVES.

Mathata boys is a Modern dance crew based in Soshanguve , which merges different types of dance genres the crew first started in the year 2009 in June the crew consisted of only three members which are: Tshiamo, Thulani and Vusi . It went on to have eight dancers within the group. The crew’s first performance was at a beauty pageant at a school in Soshanguve (Amogelang senior secondary school) where it grabbed a huge attention from the crowd. The crew then realised they needed new members, auditions where held that’s when the other members came in with Tshepo, Neo, Thabiso, karabo and lesego being the added members. The second performance was at a dance competition in Soshanguve where a new plaza was being opened the competition consisted of more than ten crews where the crew won first prize, the mathata boys dance crew’s accomplishments includes being the champions of a street dance movement known throughout Soshanguve as DLALA MAJAIVANE hosted by Dj Papa Naledi of T.U.T FM they were undefeated for two years Throughout the years the Mathata boys dance crew has been crowned Sosha’s best dance crew by a local award ceremony known as the Rock cherry awards, the crew then went on to excel and grow even bigger whereas they shot an advert for MNET with Lloyd cele of idols they appeared on JIKA MAJIKA and the STEP UP OR STEP OUT Dance completion where they were spotted by a rapper called Spy Four of triple9 records since then greater doors opened for the dance crew as they were the opening act for the famous South African Afro pop singer Zahara The crew has grown enormously and was recently crowned as Pretoria’s best dance crew (HOFA 2012 AWARDS). Believing in giving back to the community the crew created community lifting projects where they held auditions for a junior crew (mathata boys junior) Apart from dance competitions and performances Mathata boys dance crew is involved in a community project in conjunction with Garankuwa Place of Safety where the crew teaches Orphans how to dance the project has been running for two years the crew also performs at community church events for free Due to unforeseen circumstances certain members had to leave the crew. The crew currently stands at five members (Tshiamo, Neo, Gift, Vusi, and Kgothatso) 8

What inspires mathata boys? Other crews that have made it to the top such as QUEST Crew, Our biggest inspiration is the hunger to see our crew raising the bar and being known internationally

Do you guys see a future in dance? Yes we do because like any other dance crew to us dance is more than just dance its expression and dance continues to grow even bigger as the entertainment industry is very dependant to it for instance musicians need dancers for their performances and music videos so as long as there’s music there’s going to be dance

Where do you guys see mathata boys in five years? We hope one day to have our own dance studio alongside a dance school and above all we hope to raise the bar and archive worldwide recognition as South Africa’s very own best dance crew.

How do u balance school and dance? We rehearse on weekends and we don’t attend any events that clash with our exam timetables during exam times

Besides spending your time in studio, what do u guys do for fun? We enjoy spending time together chilling at the park during the week and going for a swim at kopanong lodge,

What’s mathata boy’s motto of life? Not for ourselves but for the whole world

What can we expect from mathata boys in 2013? Any tours or gigs lined up? More appearances on local and television dance completions. We have also started a production that will be specialising in hosting and planning numerous events with the Soshanguve summer splash being top priority. We are also managing a junior dance crew (mathata boys junior) which we hope to groom and grow to also be recognised as the best junior dance crew

Is there any word of advice that you would give to the young upcoming artists? With perseverance and determination topped with faith in God you are bound to succeed. Above all look out to your peers for education and advice they are here for you.

Is there space for youth in Politics? There is no doubt that the youth had nothing to do with fighting for liberation and the struggle, but owe all the thanks to their parents and generations before them that they live in a democratic country, the so called Rainbow Nation that is still highly surrounded by racism.

With the Government still crowed by some of the struggle heroes and old fellas who are there by their mighty last names, people ask themselves is there room enough for the youth to be in politics. As we enter into this month, February gives birth to the start of the academic year of high education institutions, a new generation of youth register in course’s like sports management and likes, what about Political Science? That they do everything to avoid to do!

Who do we blame for such omission in Political science and equivalent courses in the country? Do we blame the youth or do we blame the politicians in power? Who could forget the bitter battle of the ANC (African National Congress) and its youth right wing the ANCYL (African National Congress Youth League), which resulted with the ruling party ousting their youth leaders.

Democracy comes with certain laws like the right to Freedom of Expression and the right to Freedom of Speech. Often the government which is largely made up by the ANC, preach these rights/laws. While at the end when people exploit these rights by expressing themselves and voicing critical issues that the country is facing, they are silenced.

The same silencers are the ones that are using the country’s resources in a legal way. Countless alligetions on fraud, unlawful deals like the arms deal and even rape fill our news bulletins pointing to our leaders. Leading the youth to lose their last faith in politics.

“I am not qualified to do anything, but I will not disqualify myself from doing anything.” ~ Khaya Dlanga

I myself do not support the way Julius Malema handled himself towards his party and the people of the South Africa.

However if the youth is supposed to inherit the countries government and politics, they must be given room to voice out critical issues that the country is facing. Also the leaders must lead by example that the youth can also call them role models and inspirations to embark on the political journey, rather than the infamous Skhothanes and the no good celebrities. Until then in true Khaya Dlanga’s words “I am not qualified to do anything, but I will not disqualify myself from doing anything.” We shall continue to voice out what needs to be addressed because any house can be extended, if they not giving us any room in the political house 11 we shall find ways to extend the house to include ourselves for not our sakes but the country’s future.

Why did you guys start PHLY NATION? Phly.Nation was started officially in 2011 as an all-girl dance crew by Sibu Mabena and Annette Mnyande. The founding members were chosen because of their ambition off the dance floor and talent on it. We wanted to form a sorority of ambitious girls with varying interests and dreams but was brought together by one common thread: DANCE. Phly.Nation exists to inspire girls to work together to be the best versions of themselves with the help of each other. We dance together, laugh together, cry together and encourage each other to keep chasing the dream. This is in the hope of inspiring other girls to do the same wherever they are with whatever resources they have available to them. We don't have a lot, but we are using the little that we do have now to get what we want. We are students, graduates, employees and entrepreneurs...daughters, sisters and aunts...and we dance. We are girls from different backgrounds but we have now formed a sisterhood that will forever be maintained thanks to dance. Who are the members? The main team now has 6 members, namely Thando, Kaybe, Shay, Wendi, Kristen and Faith but under Phly.Nation banner we have two younger teams which are Phly.City aged 12-15 and there are 21 of them as well as Baby.Phly aged 7 - 11 and there are 11 of them. Apart from the actual dancers, we have a management team of former dancing members as well as the Phly Alumni of girls that are now running their own companies, have taken up Education, Travel coordination and Engineering as careers, travelled overseas to work there as well as various other pursuits. What was the first competition you featured on? Our first competition was the Sun City Battle of the Giants SADTA Qualifier where we came 2nd. It was the first of 3 qualifiers after which we finished 2nd in the country ultimately qualifying for the SA Dance Team which took us to Graz, Austria to compete at the World Hip Hop Champs there. This was in our first year, 2011. How did you guys come up with the name? I wanted something that described females in an all-inclusive way... so the word Phly does that. You can say that girl is phly, or the way she dances is so phly or yo that chick's hustle is phly... phly is an adjective and adverb that replaces the dull and mundane word "good". We think our name is Phly :-)

What do you guys do? We're a dance team that competes in National competitions so as to qualify for the South African Hip Hop Dance Team to compete at the International Dance Organisation's World Hip Hop Championships in Europe. Apart from that, the main team competes in various street dance competitions and performs for different entities such as corporates and artists. At the moment, some of the girls are involved in the AFCON closing ceremony as dancers. We host dance workshops for various choreographers, mores international ones such as Storm of the Animatrniks Crew from Germany as well as Gianinni Semedo Moreira from LA who is from LA but is currently on the Michael Jackson Immortal World Tour by Cirque Du Soleil. We also go to school, work, teach dancing and choreograph for kids in and outside of our studio. So we're quite a diverse group of individuals that do a number of things. What’s it like being in an all-female dance crew? It really is the most fun in life! We have such a great time together in and out of the studio. The nice thing about an all-girl group is that we have a lot of other things in common like our interests and problems and looks etc...So we're able to relate to each other on a higher level than what we do to guys. With that comes the perks of being able to sleep over at each other's houses or the studio without our parents freaking out about it. We do fight sometimes because we all have our mood swings and emotional episodes, but at the end of it all, things come together and everything works out.

14

You’ve performed on different levels locally and internationally. What are the greatest PHLY NATION highlights? Qualifying as the only all-girl dance crew our of 114 crews that auditioned for the Red Bull Beat Battle in 2012 was an awesome achievement as well as being ranked 2nd in SA in our first year of being together was also quite a humbling moment. Being featured in two mainstream womb's magazines, namely Seventeen Mag and Cosmopolitan really gave us a major confidence boost in that our efforts as a female group that wants to inspire other females to live their dreams are being recognized. We were privileged to be asked to feature in a French Documentary called Dancing City about street dancing in South Africa and that was a great experience too. Also being asked to compete as a wild card on the Masters of Rhythm TV Show in 2011 was an eye opening experience, one that helped us grow emotionally and helped unify us even more as a team. Let’s talk TV, what was the feeling when you guys first saw yourself on one of the dance shows? Or first TV appearance was on Supernova on Supersport...that was so weird! Awks actually! We then did Masters of Rhythm and that was even stranger because it's just a feeling you never get used to. We've done other shows like Zoned.tv, Yo.tv's Battle Stations and Shiz Niz and it still feel as strange as the first time. How is preparation for a corporate event different from competitions? Corporate events generally require longer performances than competitions do. So, we have to consider the type of music we use in order to suit the audience because you can't exactly expect a Government Department crowd to react positively to your average hip hop song by an artist whose name begins with a number for instance. So we just have to take our audience into serious consideration and prepare pieces that are unique and suitable to them. Competitions on the other hand guide us with rules and regulations as well as time limits, so it’s a tad bit harder to conceptualize innovative and inspired pieces whilst trying to avoid looking like something that's already been seen, The competition circuit in South Africa is quite hard because there are so many crews that are amazing and are all working their behinds off to be the best, that’s what makes it harder than a corporate performance. What do you guys do when you’re not performing? School, work, teach dancing, rehearse, party, hang out with each other or other friends, attend events and just do what regular young females do in SA. We live :-) Do you have classes that you teach? Yes we do at our main studio in Centurion called Annette Mnyande Dancing School as well as various studios around Centurion like Claire's School of Dance. We also teach open hip hop classes at Hayley Bennette's World of Dance in Sunninghill. 15

Tranforming Lives with D33 Lanie By Dee Lanie

LEARN TO BE GRATEFUL

THINK ABOUT THE NEXT PERSON

People usually don’t appreciate what they have until it’s gone. One time there was a girl who had a boyfriend. Girls would throw themselves at him since he was a good guy and did not do the things of this world. Their relationship was so beautiful. They came across lots of temptations but they conquered as their relationship was built on the Word.

Today relationships have turned out to be the game two can play. Usually people date for wrong reasons. Some of those reasons are sex, money, ’fit in’ and popularity. And in cases like this, you find that one is so committed in the relationship whereas the other just wants to benefit. The bible says in Luke 6:31 that ‘DO UNTO OTHERS WHAT YOU WANT THEM TO DO UNTO YOU’. If you are a girl and just want to benefit from the guy, you would not like that to be done to you by the guy you truly love. Same applies to guys.

Girls are known to have lots of friends, and so did this girl. The problem was not all her friends are were good friends. They would go on about worldly stuff as how they change boys, looking at how much they provide for their wants. One most thing they usually emphasize was that they would never be in a relationship with a guy that is still at school and this girl’s boyfriend was still in school. She came to a point where she felt like she is missing out on the things of this world that her friends always talked about every time. That is when she started acting strange towards her boyfriend so as to make him realise that she is no more interested. Because this guy loved her, he would always try his level best to solve whatever problem they may have but since that was not what the girl wanted at that time, she ended up cheating. The guy was so heartbroken when he found out what was going on. He knew he loved her but just had to let go since he was not the kind of guy she wanted anymore. They both moved on with their lives. It took time for the guy to heal and move on. The girl moved on with the guys that matched with the ones her friends dated. Finally the guy got himself a partner that has a very close relationship with God and does none of this world. They lived happily together. As for the girl, her life became a living hell by the day. She ended up giving her love to some guy that just doesn’t care about her at all. She thought of turning back but it was not possible anymore. From this story, we learn not to be guided by our minds but by our hearts. The girl truly loved the first guy but because of the things that went through her mind, she ended up losing someone she loved and had loved her back as well. The guy thought it was end of him when he lost his first girl but God showed him that He has better things in store for him as the bible says in Jeremiah 29:11. He did not lose hope because he knew God is faithful and will never bring him to a situation He will not see him (the guy) through. All because of KEEPING THE FAITH!

We find that this is one of the reasons why people end up being heartbroken and change from better to worst in the process. That is why it is so important that you do not get into a relationship because of the wrong reasons as in the end one becomes hurt and want to hurt others as well. For those who give their all in the relationship and not have a room for disappointments, they end up committing suicide and some of them end up in the streets, which is too bad, and for what is worst, found to be a sin. So this means you send someone in hell for the rest of their lives once you get involved with them for wrong reasons since they end up in a wrong path you lead them to. And don’t think you are safe because you are also going to end up there, in hell, since you lead others as well. It is way better to prevent rather than cure because in most cases, cure it is not guaranteed. If you don’t love that someone, set him/her free while you still can before you end up living in regret. Sometimes you are not sure if you are truly loved or they love what you have, so it is best that you build your relationship with God who can never leave or abandon you, in whatever circumstance( see Deuteronomy 31:6) . He alone is faithful. KEEP THE FAITH!

Classic Dancing Tips with Ramses The Harlem shake, originally called the Albee in Harlem, is a dance that started in 1981. The dance became mainstream in 2001 when G-Dep featured the Harlem shake in his music video Let’s Get it. It has its history from an North-East African or Ethiopian (Abyssinian) dance called ‘’Eskista’’ and was allegedly started in Harlem by a man named Al B. Its ancient form ‘’Eskista’’ is still used in Ethiopia today.

Instructions 1 For the Harlem shake all u do is stick your fore arms out and move them from left to right. 2 Then you take your left shoulder and move it straight up in the air like you was trying to touch your ear. 3 That's when you move your arms to the right. 4 Then you move your right shoulder up in the air like you did with your left shoulder but when you do this with your right shoulders you move your arms to the left. 5 After doing this 3 time in a row that's when you pop. 6 All that is when you throw your left shoulder down and backwards and your right shoulder goes up and forward at the same time. 7 You do this in rhythm with the song over and over in a 1&2&3&pop. That’s all it is to do the Harlem shake. #NB if you can’t do this with these just jump and try to kick in the air and you’ll be a Dr Malinga pro

Tips & Warnings: Before you follow the steps, make sure you stretch your Ribs, Stomach muscles, Neck, Shoulder, Underarm and hips. This is only if you want to be able to go back to your own bed to sleep in after the practise. Easier as well. 21
