AN advertisement by Mr André J. Hendricks, published on December 15 by the UD News, referred to “an articulate world leader (known to Christians as the Anti-Christ, and to Muslims as the 12th Imam, or Mahdi)”. Media 24 has been informed that to Muslims the Anti-Christ is called Masih ad Dajjal (which means False Messiah). The advertisement wrongly alleged that Imam Mahdi (meaning Divinely Guided Leader) is the AntiChrist. Although Media24 and its subsidiaries, including this newspaper, published a disclaimer that the advertisement was paid for by the advertiser and did not reflect the views of Media24 and its subsidiaries, we apologise for publishing words which may have been harmful and insensitive to the Muslim religious community.
