The UConn men’s basketball team (9-3, 0-0) opens its third season of play in the American Athletic Conference on the road, playing Tulane (7-7, 0-1) at the Devlin Fieldhouse in New Orleans. The game will tip off at 7:30 p.m. (EST) and will be televised on the CBS Sports Network. UConn, which has won four straight and five of its last six games, is coming off a 71-66 road victory at Texas on Tuesday. The Huskies are led in scoring by junior guard Rodney Purvis (15.3), while sophomore Daniel Hamilton (13.0) and grad students Shonn Mille (13.0) and Sterling Gibbs (11.5) also average in double figures. Hamilton is the top rebounder on the team (8.4) and also leads the team in assists (5.6). Tulane is coming off a 77-65 loss in its conference opener at Memphis on Tuesday. The Green Wave is led in scoring by senior guard Louis Danney (13.2), while junior guard Malik Morgan (11.6) and sophomore forward Dylan Osetkowski (10.4) are also in double figures. Osetkowski is Tulane’s leading rebounder (9.1), while Morgan is the leader in assists (2.8). UConn defeated Tulane twice last season. HUSKY BITES Kevin Ollie is in his fourth season as the 18th head coach of the UConn men’s basketball
program, with a career record of 81-36. He reached 50 victories in just two years and he is already sixth on the all-time list of UConn coaching victories. His .692 winning percentage ranks fourth among UConn coaches who have coached more than 20 games and he and Jim Calhoun are the only UConn coaches to win the NCAA championship.
UConn is in its third season as a TV partner of CBS Sports Network and in its fourth
season appearing on the network. The Huskies have an overall record of 9-4 on CBS SN: 2-1 in 2012-13, 3-1 in 2013-14, and 4-2 in 2014-15. Tonight’s game is the first of eight regular-season games on CBS SN this season.
