The nationally-ranked (#23/#24) UConn men’s basketball team (10-3 overall, 1-0 AAC), which has won five straight games and six of its last seven, plays its first home American Athletic Conference game, entertaining Temple (6-6, 1-1) at the XL Center in Hartford. The game will tip off at 8 p.m. and will be televised by the CBS Sports Network. The Huskies are coming off two consecutive road wins, including a 75-67 triumph at Tulane Saturday in their AAC opener. UConn is led in scoring by junior Rodney Purvis (15.6), while sophomore Daniel Hamilton (13.5), and grads Shonn Miller (12.9) and Sterling Gibbs (11.8) also average double figures. Hamilton is the team’s top rebounder (8.5) and also leads in assists (5.4) and steals (1.2). Temple is coming off a 77-50 home loss to Houston on Saturday. The Owls are led in scoring by senior Quenton DeCosey (14.9), while sohomore Obi Enechionyia (10.0) is also in double figures. Senior Jaylen Bond is the leading rebounder (7.3) and junior Josh Brown leads in assists (4.2). HUSKY BITES Kevin Ollie is in his fourth season as the 18th head coach of the UConn men’s basketball
program, with a career record of 82-36. He reached 50 victories in just two years and he is already sixth on the all-time list of UConn coaching victories. His .695 winning percentage ranks fourth among UConn coaches who have coached more than 20 games and he and Jim Calhoun are the only UConn coaches to win the NCAA championship.
UConn is in its third season as a TV partner of CBS Sports Network and in its fourth season
appearing on the network. The Huskies have an overall record of 10-4 on CBS SN: 2-1 in 2012-13, 3-1 in 2013-14, 4-2 in 2014-15 and 1-0 so far this season. Tonight’s game is the second of eight regular-season games on CBS SN this season.
