Seaworld Should Think Outside Tank 6RPH RI WKH PRVW GHĂ€QLQJ DQG DWWUDFWLYH features of San Diego are its beaches. Off the coast lives much wildlife, including sea lions, harbor seals and dolphins that can be observed free. Or: minutes away, you can pay to see these animals in captivity at SeaWorld, where imprisoned animals’ signs of distress have been controlled by psychotropic drugs, according to WIRED magazine (wired.com). While situated so close to the ocean, life for these captive creatures is a hellish opposite to their wild counterparts (seaworldparks. com). As a corporation whose website sickeningly boasts that it “maintains one of the largest animal collections on the North American continent,â€? including “the largest killer whale population in a zoological facility worldwide,â€? SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment™ spells a sentence of suffering for many animals (seaworldentertainment.com $TXDULXPV and sea parks such as SeaWorld should phase out captivity of wild animals unsuited to it by stopping all wild

potential future generations should not be destined to the same fate. Captivity also destroys the social fabric of intelligent creatures. According to a website about orcas, “SeaWorld has separated numerous [orca] mothers and offspring,â€? who “have been observed to exhibit behavior that is suggestive of griefâ€? (seaworldfactcheck.com). SeaWorld tears apart animal families. In addition to losing their traditional social groups, “Captive marine mammals‌ are deprived of their natural activity level‌ and interactions with their natural environment, and many captive marine mammals develop stereotypic behavior and/or aggression not known to occur in the wild,â€? according to an animal advocacy organization’s website (bornfreeusa.org). &DSWLYLW\ DOVR VXEMHFWV marine mammals to LQMXULHV LQFOXGLQJ ´GRUVDO Ă€Q FROODSVH

But with marine creatures swimming miserably in circles, sea parks instead increase our sensitivity to the plights of animals in captivity (peta. org). Schools have taken us to SeaWorld. Yet, rather than from watching animals manipulated to perform tricks, we learned two respect the ocean by actually going to the beach. captures and breeding that perpetuates their captivity. The inherent nature of captivity inhibits an inherent nature of animals: freedom of movement. In a CNN article, Scientist Naomi Rose stated, “The largest orca tank in the world is less than one tenthousandth of one percent‌ of the size of the smallest home range of wild orcasâ€? (cnn.com). Captivity physically oppresses many animals. The current generation of captivity’s victims is suffering enough;

Are Smart Guns Really a Smarter Alternative? According to the website of the Legal Information Institute, the Second Amendment states: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.â€? It is no secret that those encouraging the use of smart guns are trying to lessen this right given to citizens by the constitution. Due to this Amendment, it makes it more challenging for people who are pro-gun control to get rid of guns all together. Smart JXQV DUH MXVW WKH EHJLQQLQJ RI WKH HIIRUWV that will gradually take away an American citizen’s rights to bear arms, which is absolutely an infringement. According to Forbes business magazine, guns are purchased in order to protect people from danger in emergency situations. Since this kind of gun uses computer technology, it also uses electrical power or needs to be charged through some source, like batteries. Guns that are functional without unreliable technology are a safer and much easier of a way to ensure safety (forbes. com).

Girls Varsity Water Polo Swim and Shoot for Success Aiming for CIF By Kailey Withers

Staff Writer According to Varsity Head Coach Audra Bloom, UC High’s Water Polo Team meets every weekday from 3:45 to 6:00 p.m. with occasional Saturday practices at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Canyonview Pool. I believe I have a lot of valuable knowledge I can pass on to anyone who is interested in excelling in this sport.
