ENTREPRENEURIAL FELLOWS PROGRAM (EFP) OVERVIEW

ENTREPRENEURIAL FELLOWS PROGRAM: BOLSTERING STARTUP EXPERIENCES AND ACCELERATING INNOVATION

The Entrepreneurial Fellows Program was envisioned by M.E.T. Advisory Board member, Ted Kuh, who conceived of the idea to get M.E.T. students jump started working directly with founders early in their academic careers. Ted was joined by EFP donors Kamal Duggirala, Mark Edelstone, Jon Goldstein, Tom Hui, and James Lau, who along with Ted have collectively sponsored countless EFP students in this entirely donor funded lifechanging program.

In 2023, Jas Khaira came aboard to establish the Khaira EFP Fellows, our first EFP endowment, sponsoring multiple students

per year in perpetuity. Further, through the generous support of non-advisory board members, Ranga Rajagopalan & Sujatha Ranganathan, the program continues to thrive. A full list of donors, including members of the M.E.T. advisory board as well as non-members, may be found on the final page of this brochure; we thank them all for their continued generous support of this special program.

We are thrilled that each year ~30 M.E.T. students are able to participate in the entrepreneurial experience our program cultivates.

“ ““As an intern at VectorShift, I built a suite of infrastructure for our app to enable clients—from everyday people to industry professionals— to create their own AI-powered workflows, pipelines, and automations. One of my projects was building a marketplace feature that would allow clients to share their pipelines with others, learn and discuss these AI-related tools with other customers in the community, and enhance their own workflows.”

“Over the past two months, I’ve taken part in a series of growth sprints and product polishes. One of my main projects was automating their CRM Funnel. Using softwares such as Zapier, AirTable, and Twilio, I have been able to structure an email and text communication system to move customers through onboarding. This new process has reduced the customer acquisition time from 14 days to one. [...] This experience has tremendously helped me in growing professionally. I’ve been able to learn the art of communication in a workplace and vastly grow my network. I was able to attend New York Tech Week where I had the opportunity to connect with brilliant founders, VCs, executives, other interns, and mentors.”

““I had the opportunity to spearhead the development of Tribe’s in-game AI mentor. From designing the UI to coding and implementation, I helped launch this feature from the ground by working with developers and our product team. [...] I leaned into my creative side, mapping out UI flows and concepts. I then had to get scrappy, using the resources around me to prototype web pages by coding html and javascript files. But once I had a working prototype, I was able to communicate to the team that my ideas added value to the product.”

PARTICIPATING COMPANIES

Startup Requirements

• Currently affiliated with a UC Berkeley or M.E.T. -approved startup accelerator or fund.

• Be Pre-Seed, Seed, or Series A funded with 3–30 employees.

• Cannot be a current undergraduate student-founded startup from any college or university.

• Maximum of (2) M.E.T. student interns at each affiliated startup.

ACCELERATORS

Our Accelerator Partners are instrumental in helping students obtain internships. Our team puts a call out to accelerators in mid-January annually and we host a start-up career fair each April for our students and startups to network.

Berkeley SkyDeck is UC Berkeley’s premier startup accelerator and incubator program. They support startups founded by UC Berkeley students, alumni, and faculty who are seeking to bring their scientific and technical discoveries to market and commercialize groundbreaking UC Berkeley research.

TechStars is a mentorshipdriven accelerator, investing $120K and providing hands-on mentorship and access to the startups in the TechStars network. YCombinator provides a small amount of seed funding for startups and works with them to flesh out ideas and help founders partner with investors and acquirers.
