ANNAPURNA SANCTUARY TREK

Annapurna Sanctuary Trek

Annapurna Sanctuary trek Starting From

$.00 per person

Start trek from Pokhara through charming terraced villages, we finally pass between the peaks of Machhapuchare and Hiunchuli, which protect the entrance to the Annapurna Base Camp. Annapurna Sanctuary is a vast ice-clad valley of some of the highest mountains in the world, including the overwhelming Annapurna South. The Annapurna Sanctuary Trek is a perfect introduction to Himalayan trekking. This outstanding glacial valley is called a ‘Sanctuary’ not because of acts that protect wildlife within its boundaries, but because of its natural tranquility, beauty and the heavenly presence of the goddesses, Annapurna and Gangapurna, both important figures in Hindu myth and folklore.

DESCRIPTION ITINERARY INCLUDES/EXCLUDES ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Most of the villages in this area are to the Gurung people, a very well-off group living mostly in the foothills surrounding Pokhara. These people depend largely on agriculture and sheep herding for their survival, although large numbers of the men have served as Gurkha soldiers in the British and Indian Army. The Gurung men are easily distinguishable by a white piece of material wrapped as a short skirt and a triangular shawl, which loops over both arms. The trek back to Pokhara is by a different route and includes a early morning hike up Poon Hill for sunrise over the Himalaya. This is one of the best first treks to do in the Himalaya, as the trail gets outstandingly close to the mountains but does not go dramatically high.
