ADAM Burkett serves as the CEO of East by West Destination Spa Retreats where he is creating the next level in luxury lifestyle travel and spa living, developing a body, mind and soul spa driven retreat experience and community that aims to change your life for the better.
Adam started his development career building luxury lifestyle residences in the southwest where he offers wellness workshops and concierge services. This was followed by creating his first prototype farm retreat in Kentucky where he developed an equine driven luxury spa retreat that features an indoor riding arena and wellness center.
Today Adam is developing two world class destination spa retreats in New Mexico and at a Ski Resort in Colorado, building luxury residences around highly curated spa amenities that provide guests and residents with experiences to foster transformation, wellness and community, while living a luxury lifestyle.
WILD Magazine caught up with him to talk, mindfulness, Eastern spirituality and Western science
Adam, what distinguishes your resorts from others?
Our first brand distinction is that we go far beyond most developers who just build homes as boxes. We think outside that box and feature the psychology of development, creating good memories, wow experiences and breakthroughs in wellness and community.
How do your resorts address sustainability?
East by West is riding on the waves of change by pioneering in the next generation of Eco-friendly Spa Homes so as to meet today’s megatrend in the hospitality industry, incorporating an eco-friendly environment and sustainability into our design. Our vision is to revolutionize the home industry by creating the future today via East by West Eco Spa Homes. We integrate ancient wisdom from the East with green and smart technologies from the West, then blend this with conscious wellness and wellbeing content into our spa home package.
What makes your spas different?
What differentiates The East by West Resort & Spa Experience from others is that unlike most spas that focus just on fitness and body treatments, we combine ancient wisdom through such modalities as yoga and meditation with the latest in sports science and sports medicine. This can lead to huge breakthroughs in wellness and wellbeing. That said, the East by West Spa takes spas to the next level featuring a true body, mind and spirit program and experience that can transform your life forever. The spa driven mission is to empower guests and residents to live well and live a life that is more conscious, powerful, balanced and successful on the road, in the workplace and at home.
Can you explain the philosophy behind integrating horses and equestrian activities into the properties, particularly focusing on the connection to the heart and personal growth?
What also differentiates The East by West Resort & Spa Experience is that it features a body, mind and spirit horse empowerment program that offer conscious riding (such as horse whispering) that uses the power of the horse to teach, heal and empower people to be more mindful. Horse Empowerment is all about the healing, teaching and the transformation process of life champions, which happens when we spend time making a heartfelt connection with the kindness and the authenticity of a horse. That said, we partner with horses because they are instinctively wise. Horses don’t judge you nor do they lie; rather they speak to you non-verbally and mirror the truth about who you are, how you show up and where you are in your life. They showcase your gifts, imperfections, vulnerabilities and wounds. They address your contradictions and empower you to let go of the core patterns and obstacles within that are holding you back. Horses meet you where you are at; they then teach, test, awaken and heal you.
What is your long-term vision?
Our vision over the next five years is to create a roll out of spa retreats at the finest destinations in the world – in the mountains, deserts, by the sea and in the great cities.
Is there a selection process for potential residents to ensure alignment with the retreat center’s vision and values, and if so, what does this process entail?
Easy by West has grown so quickly with the support of early investors and supporters who see the opportunity to reimagine how we “live” and the opportunity to consciously create intentional luxury lifestyle residences by design. Residents are curated by application and those approved are added to the waitlist. The criteria is for residents to prioritize a holistic perspective of success and to share in East by West’s mission and values.
