1L: THE FOUNDATION OF YOUR CAREER
No two students will follow the same course of study at Arizona Law, but all students will follow a path that takes them through the first year’s theoretical foundation of law.
First-year classes will teach you the basics of the law and legal system while our small sizes allow you to receive individualized academic support from your first-year professors who you’ll come to know as mentors, friends and trusted advisors.

Your 3L year will help you put the “practice” in practitioner. Externships, legal skills competitions, including Moot Court, and our dedicated bar exam prep team help law students develop professional habits that will allow them to turn their ambitions into meaningful careers.

Arizona Law provides academic credit to students studying law through a variety of externship placements in government, non-profit, legislative, executive, judicial, corporate, and for-profit entities where students engage in substantial legal work. A LEADER IN GLOBAL PARTNERSHIPS
Our international connections and proximity to the Mexican border have led us to create two one-of-a-kind programs for lawyers and professionals in Tucson and abroad.
A first of its kind partnership between University of Arizona Law and University of Technology Sydney begins fall 2024 allowing eligible students to obtain a JD from both institutions—in both U.S. law and Australian law—in as few as 3 years. Students in the program will take a mixture of in-person and online classes focused on the central components of both legal systems. U.S.-based students will complete their first two years of study at Arizona Law and then commence with UTS courses, either online or in Australia, during their third year. After graduation, students will have the option to seek licensure in both countries and leverage that joint licensure in their legal career.
Foreign Diplomat Training Program has trained nearly 300 Mexican diplomats on foundational U.S. law to better serve their citizens living, traveling and working in the U.S. “The quality of the program offered and the commitment to the training of our officers has been extraordinary,” said the Hon. Esteban Moctezuma, ambassador of Mexico to the U.S.

A NEW ADMISSIONS PATHWAY
Founded at Arizona Law in 2019, JD-Next is a fully online, non-credit course that exposes students to the fundamental reading and analysis skills they will further develop in law school. The course culminates in an exam, shown to be a valid and reliable predictor of success, without the substantial racial disparities that infect other admissions exams.
In spring 2023, the ABA granted a request to allow schools to admit students using scores from the JD-Next exam which means you can apply to law school without taking the LSAT or the GRE. Visit JD-Next.org for more information.
