Holiday Fun with Seagull Sam at the V&A
pot fines to the value of R8 500 have been handed to 12 women in Parow and Goodwood for soliciting sex over the past few days. This is according to the City of Cape Town’s Jean-Pierre Smith, mayoral committee member for safety and security. Smith says the vice squad unit inspected eight brothels in these areas. “This drive forms part of ongoing operations to ensure a safe city, which are largely based on tip-offs from local communities,” he says.
Inspections The liquor enforcement unit recently also inspected 36 shebeens and restaurants in Bishop Lavis, Claremont, central Cape Town, Kommetjie and Blue Downs. Officers issued nine written warning notices and spot fines totalling R11 900 for
various offences, including contraventions of the Business Act, Community Fire Safety By-law and the Land Use Ordinance. As a result of the follow-up operations on shebeens in the Bishop Lavis area, two premises operating illegally had to permanently close their doors.
Share information “These units are to be commended for the sterling work they do despite limited resources, to attend to the concerns and complaints from various communities about liquor premises and the illegal sex trade. “I would like to call on residents to continue sharing information about such activities with our law enforcement agencies who work tirelessly to safeguard our communities,” Smith says.
