Electrical short and car gone An electrical short circuit originating in the engine of a car saw to it that the vehicle was completely enveloped in flames last week Saturday before Goodwood Fire and Rescue (GFR) extin guished it. The incident happened at around 12:50 at the MacIntyre traffic circle. GFR spokesperson, Theo Layne, says that there were no injuries. He adds: “It can happen to any car at any time, so when you smell smoke, stop immediately, get out and stay away.”

3 ROBBERS: 150 YEARS TOTAL JAIL

arow police detectives’ efforts saw to it that three armed robbers were recently sentenced to a total of 150 years in jail with immediate effect. Ashwin (25) and Patrick Daniels (30) were each sentenced to 60 years’ imprisonment and a 30 year sentence was slapped onto Adrian Reitz (26), a man who went by his nickname “Green Eyes”. The three men were involved in a spate of armed robberies at doctors and dentists in Parow and Bellville last year May, where they stole money and cellphones. A little bit of luck and a whole lot of perspiration by Parow detectives saw to it that one piece of evidence led to the next. Finally it was one of the suspects known as Green Eyes who gave the police the information they needed to arrest the other two.
Lt Kevin Williams, the spokesperson of Parow police, elaborates: “Our detectives got a breakthrough when they phoned a stolen cellphone taken during one of the robberies.
Stolen Someone answered the phone, which still had the same SIM card, and then the number was traced to this suspect. This person, who was not involved in the robberies, was arrested for the possession of stolen property. He in turn gave a lead as to where he got the phone. The suspect was also identified on the CCTV footage by his alias “Green Eyes”. He apparently operated in Bellville.” The CCTV footage was, however, pretty unclear according to Williams. After intensive investigations Reitz (aka Green Eyes) was arrested. He was positively identified by the man who was in possession
of the stolen cellphone.
Arrested Williams continues: “Green Eyes then identified the other suspect and a task team arrested him at his residence in Bellville South.” It wasn’t long before all three suspects were arrested. Just two months after the spate of robberies all three were in custody of the police. According to Williams one of the robbers was already serving a sentence for theft in Pollsmoor Prison. On 14 January this year all three suspects were successfully prosecuted in the Bellville Regional Court and sent to prison with immediate effect. “You can run, but you will not always hide yourselves! The police will use its ‘long arm’ to trace you and bring you to justice!” he concludes emphatically.

Die konsert begin om 20:00, maar die hekke sal reeds om 17:00 open. Konsertgangers kan van vroeg af by die verskeie kos- en wynstalletjies kuier en op die terras ontspan. Geen kos en drank mag ingeneem word nie. Daar sal ’n gratis busdiens wees om mense van hul motors tot by die hek en terug te vervoer.
