De Kuilen se Peter Pan gaan hartsnare roer
Die Laerskool De Kuilen bied ’n produksie aan wat die hart-, lag- en avontuursnare van oud en jonk gaan roer. Van 7 tot 11 Oktober vanaf 19:00 sal leerders die immergewilde The Adventures of Peter Pan opvoer. Die vertonings beloof om ’n avontuur vir die hele gesin te wees, en die skool nooi almal om te kom en die pret te beleef. “Die Laerskool De Kuilen hou elke derde jaar ’n groot skoolkonsert,” het Phillipine Hans van die skool gesê. “Ons dramajuffrou, Annelie Treurnich, besluit watter produksie ons gaan aanpak. Vanjaar het sy besluit op die avonture van Peter Pan. Die balletjuffrou, Megan Davies, werk die choreografie uit,” vertel Phillipine. Sy sê die hele skool word betrek by die produksie. “Leerders word dan in twee rolverdelings
ingedeel. Elke graadgroep vertolk die rol van ’n sekere toneel in die produksie.” Só byvoorbeeld is die graad 5’s die “Lost Kids”, sê sy. “Ons het reeds in die begin van die derde kwartaal begin oefen. Elke Woensdag het ons vir ’n uur geoefen. In elke graad is daar op ’n opvoeder wat besluit wie die leiding moes neem met die aanleer van die passies en die maak van kostuums,” sê Phillipine. Die skool het reeds in die tweede kwartaal begin met die dekor, wat die fantasie moet aanhelp op die verhoog, onder leiding van die skool se kunstigste leerkragte, sê sy. Die Laerskool De Kuilen is bekend vir sy wonderlike konserte, en almal is welkom om dié groot avontuur te kom meemaak, nooi sy. V Skakel die skool by 021 903 4160 vir besprekings. Preschoolers a step ahead in helping others The staff at Step Ahead Educare in Kuils River could not have known what a profound effect a recent visit would have on their lives. The school’s teachers paid a visit to Sivenathi, a licensed home for severely disabled children in Blackheath. These children, most of whom cannot do anything for themselves, immediately did the greatest thing for these educators: they crept straight into their hearts. So much so that Step Ahead has decided, as one of their main objectives for 2013, to make social contributions to mentally and physically challenged children, and as such, to raise funds for these special kids. Sivenathi’s gratitude is immense. “We at Sivenathi hereby humbly express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone at Step Ahead Educare for their campaign towards helping our vulnerable and helpless kids,” Gideon Dalupa, manager at Sivenathi, said.
“It is tearful to know that Sivenathi’s helpers are little children, innocent children. They are only one to six years old, yet at such a young age they are being taught to be kind and giving...Otherwise, how do we change the world? “Please help the little ones at Step Ahead Educare to help us. They have the blessings and prayers of all of us here at Sivenathi,” he said. Step Ahead has everything clearly planned. Said Gail Eckhard, co-ordinator of the fundraiser: “Based on a needs assessment, our educare aims to provide curtains, bedding, wash buckets, kitchen utensils, paint, nappies, pyjamas, socks, etc. Sivenathi will be receiving the intended social contributions during “an extravagant Debutante Ballroom event” on 5 October at the Sarepta Community Centre from 19:00 to 23:00, she said. Come along and march against crime The community is once again reminded to take part in a march against gang violence. Residents of Park Village have organised the march and wish to make a positive change in their neighbourhoods after Eerste River went through a spate of gang-related incidents. Petro-Ann Nicholas, secretary of the Park Village Youth Committee, asked the community to rock up in droves on Saturday 5 October to show their support for a gang-free Kleinvlei and

The march will start at the Kleinvlei police station, via Station Road through Melton Rose, Spandau, a part of Keerom Street, and will end at the Kleinvlei sport grounds.
