010 Idols runner up, Lloyd Cele, has decided to share his life story in his new book, The Dream of an Idol. Lloyd became a household name after doing so well in the national singing competition, but his life wasn’t always so easy. Growing up in KwaZulu-Natal, Lloyd’s family struggled to make ends meet, and money for music lessons was non-existent, but that didn’t deter the little boy with big dreams. He taught himself to play guitar, keyboard and saxophone and of course, he sang. Lloyd says he hopes the book will teach people not to be afraid of following their own dreams. “Music touches people’s souls, and it speaks volumes on its own,” Lloyd says. “But this will last for very many years,” he says of his book. “I feel that this is a huge milestone for me,” the Idols star says, adding: “Not just for my fans, but for my kids as well.” Lloyd is the father of a four-year-old son and an 18-month-old daughter. He says he likes the idea that his own children and even their children will be able to pick up the book and read about his journey. “I feel that it’s a means of taking your story and making sure that it lasts longer than just ‘that guy from Idols’,” Lloyd says.
Journey He describes what people can expect from the book: “It’s the journey of a guy who has been knocking on every single door to try to break through and who’s failed many times.” “I’m proud to say that because I want people to know that I’ve also had my fair share of failure,” he adds. Lloyd says he is even proud of losing on Idols, because it is part

of what makes him who he is today. “All along I’ve always been writing and documenting everything that goes on in my life,” Lloyd says, adding: “I never really understood why I was doing it, until I met the right people who made me realise that I have such a great story that can help people and if I keep it to myself it will be selfish.”
Inspire “There’s nothing that’s dearer to me than being able to inspire and reach out and help other people,” he says. Besides his inspirational message, the book also includes QR codes, which will take readers to an interactive site with video clips of surprise performances by Lloyd and more information on chapters and the people Lloyd writes about in the book. Included in the book, is an album created for the book. “So it’s not just a book, it’s a bargain,” Lloyd jokes. Since competing in Idols, Lloyd has released three albums and has won a SAMA award for best pop album. Last year he ear-
ned a nomination in the pop category again and has also been nominated for Metro and Channel O awards. Lloyd’s book is published by Struik Christian Media and is available at Exclusive Books and CUM books. The next project on his agenda is a DVD which he is busy planning and will hopefully be released next year. Lloyd also let TygerBurger readers in on the news that he has been booked to perform at the next K Day festival set to take place in March 2014. “I’ve learnt so much and I’ve grown so much, performing all over the country,” Lloyd says of his musical journey, adding: “I just love to perform and I look forward to meeting my fans.” V Lloyd performed a special song for TygerBurger readers on the Orange Couch.
