Die Stad het in ’n streng bewoorde mediaverklaring gesê hy het ’n beleid wat personeel wat vaste afval verwyder en ander dienspersoneel verbied om inwoners vir “Kersgeskenke” of “donasies” te vra. Volgens Shehaam Sims, die Stad se burgemeesterskomiteelid vir nutsdienste, het probleme voorheen ontstaan wanneer mense wat hulle as munisipale werkers voordoen, selfs aggressief geld ge-eis het. “Hulle het ook al gedreig dat vullis nie verwyder sal word as daar nie aan hulle eise voldoen word nie. Die
Stad sal nie hierdie optrede van ons personeel duld nie. Ons het dus al ons personeel dienooreenkomstig ingelig dat hulle geen ‘Kersgeskenke’ of donasies mag werf nie.” As inwoners glo dat hulle uitstekende diens ontvang het, kan hulle natuurlik vrywillig iets vir die dienstepersoneel gee as ’n gebaar van hulle dankbaarheid, maar nie wanneer hulle daarvoor genader word nie, het Sims gesê. “Die Stad se personeel word goed betaal in terme van industriestandaarde. Meeting explains how to do business with City The City of Cape Town invites all business owners to attend briefings where they can learn more about how to do business with the City. “We have as one of our objectives for the city, the creation of an enabling economic environment in which investment can grow and jobs can be created,” said the City’s executive deputy mayor and mayoral committee member for finance, Alderman Ian Neilson. “We want business owners to interact with us, and to trade with us. But they need to know how to do this and understand the rules of our procurement processes.” In the last quarter 66,6 percent of the service
providers used by the City, and payments to the value of R1,4 billion were made to historically disadvantaged individuals. “We know that by engaging with businesses we can increase these figures and encourage more businesses, especially small businesses, to do business with us,” said Neilson. The briefings will take place at several venues across Cape Town, including one at the Bellville South Community Hall, Kasselsvlei Road, Bellville South on 6 December at 18:00. The City of Cape Town is appealing to residents to be careful with flames during the summer. The two main types of fires in Cape Town, vegetation and structural, can be prevented in most cases. Informal settlements are the highest at risk. It is essential that they: . Limit ignition sources; . Keep areas around heating and cooking devices clear of any material, and . Keep roadways around the structures clear of obstructions to allow emergency vehicles to move around under emergency conditions. A few ways to prevent both vegetation and structural fires include: . Do not discard burning cigarettes from your vehicle. They are pollutants and one of the causes of vegetation fires. Use the ashtray in the vehicle; . Buy a fire extinguisher and keep it in an accessible place in your home; . Every home should have more than one exit to ensure escape if a fire breaks out; . Informal homes should be built at least three metres apart to stop fires from spreading; . Do not overload your electrical circuits – don’t keep more than four plugs in one extension; . Never leave a paraffin appliance unattended. It only takes a second for a gust of wind, pet or child to knock over a light or stove, and . Make sure paraffin appliances are on a flat, firm surface.
