PartnershipMakes the Difference

A message from Kara

I am delighted to present the Annual Report of the MassHire Cape & Islands Workforce Board (CIWB). This report encapsulates the narrative of our endeavors during FY24 and underscores our unwavering commitment to the Cape & Islands region.

As the Executive Director, it is with great satisfaction that I reflect on the accomplishments and impact of the past year. This reflection reaffirms the dedication of the CIWB team, Board of Directors, Youth Council, and Community Partners. Without the collective efforts of all stakeholders, our achievements would have been far less significant.

Throughout the year, the CIWB has persistently fostered and leveraged strategic partnerships across the region to bolster economic and workforce development strategies. Notably, initiatives such as the Healthcare Hubs Extension Grant and the Off-Shore Wind Grant have propelled us into a position of strength and prominence as a workforce partner. These grants have not only facilitated long-term economic opportunities but have also helped identify skills gaps within priority sectors, ensuring that our young adults are equipped with a competitive edge upon graduation.

The CIWB acknowledges the evolving landscape of the workforce, underscoring the critical importance of sectorbased grants in sustaining the economic vitality of the region. Our commitment to regional economic growth within high-demand sectors aligns seamlessly with the values of the MassHire Brand: collaboration, respect, reliability, and ingenuity. These values have served as guiding principles, shaping and defining our successful endeavors.

In FY24, the CIWB convened the CIWB Regional Blueprint Team to revise and enhance the existing regional blueprint, crafted post-Covid. This collaborative effort brought together local and regional stakeholders from education, workforce development, and economic sectors.

The revised blueprint, slated for release in the fall of 2024, will serve as a foundational document driving funding decisions on various grant opportunities, including Innovation Pathways and Mass Skills Capital Grants.

Creativity and ingenuity lie at the heart of the ArtWorks Program, which will enter its twenty-eighth year in the fall of 2024. Recognized with the 2023 Outstanding Youth Organization Award, ArtWorks provides high school students in grades 8-12 with exposure to career pathways within the creative economy through hands-on mentoring with local artists. The CIWB remains steadfast in its commitment to providing free art experiences and supplies to all students, recognizing the program's myriad benefits, including fostering creativity, innovation, self-confidence, and entrepreneurship.

As I approach my fifth anniversary as Executive Director of the CIWB and my tenth year with the organization on July 1st, I am profoundly grateful for the unwavering support of the CIWB team, Board of Directors, Youth Council, and our dedicated community partners. Together, we have cultivated meaningful relationships, expanded our Board membership, and established an organization grounded in respect and reliability, capable of thriving under new leadership.

Looking ahead, I am confident that the coming year will bring new challenges, opportunities, and avenues for collaboration. I eagerly anticipate exploring these possibilities and building upon our existing relationships to further advance our shared goals.

With gratitude,
