Pasta Grande!

Maria’s meals a flavourite fund raiser

Two Wells residents are no strangers to Maria Pellizzari’s cooking.

And on Friday, April 1, there will be even more of an excuse to indulge in her pasta.

Maria, in conjunction with Two Wells Red Cross, is holding a pasta night, in aid of the Queensland floods.

A dedicated volunteer chef for various community events, such as Two Wells melodrama and Two Wells football and netball club Redlow, Maria knows how to impress a crowd.

The event will be held at the Two Wells Football Club with several pastas including lasagne and pasta bake.

Maria said there would be about half a dozen ladies helping her cook the feast.

Red Cross members will provide dessert with tea and coffee available and the bar open. A raffle will also be held on the night.

Open day was no waste of time

Integrated Waste Services on Old Port Wakefield road was open to the public on Saturday, February 19, for a community day.

The day was aimed at anyone interested in how waste is managed.

Between 11.30am and 3.30pm there was an opportunity for guests to witness waste management Ward Belt techniques and find out more about the processes from site staff and management.

Lewiston Gawler took place throughout the day, includBus tours ing background talks on the type of waste managed, Gawler River processing before it arrives, engineered designs, environmental management and challenges in the Angle Vale waste industry. TWRAT hosts Adelaide Plains Emu Awards at bowling club

Two Wells is set to host the district’s Emu Awards breakfast on Friday, March 25.

Two Wells Regional Action Team (TWRAT) is coordinating the breakfast, which will take place at the Bowling Club from 7.30am.

Adelaide Plains Emu awards recognise members of the community who have stuck their neck out in the past year and taken a risk.

Two Wells’ street parade and party has been nominated for the community event of the year.

In 2010, the organising committee stuck their neck out and were thrilled to welcome Governor Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce and his wife, Liz, as special guests.

Community members or organisations have been nominated in four categories; individual, business, community group and event, with nominations closing on Friday, February 25.

The overall winner will take home $600 and will be recognised as a valued part of the community. Other event nominations include Shear for Life fundraiser in Blyth and Portraits art competition at Hummocks station.

Leith Reinke from Hoyleton CFS has been nominated for the individual award along with Blyth’s Daryl Andriske and Balaklava’s Wendy Schulz.

Cutz n Curlz, from Balaklava, has been nominated with Owen’s Noel Bubner Agri-Cycling in the business category, and Balaklava Museum, Mallala and District

Lions Club and Avon complex have been nominated for the community group award.

The awards are a joint venture

by District Council of Mallala and Wakefield Regional Council, also incorporating the townships of Angle Vale and Virginia.

They are sponsored by Churches of Christ Life Care retirement homes and the Plains Producer, publisher of the Echo.

Scout sale

Two Wells Scout Group is holding the next car boot sale at the scout hall on Saturday, March 5 from 8am to 12 noon.

Sellers will need to pay a fee of $10, while buyers can browse for free.

Scout leader Ian Laughton said the sale would be held less frequently. “We are now holding the sale about every three months with the next being on May 28,” he said.

The Scouts’ AGM will be held on Wednesday March 23, from 7.30pm at the hall. Anyone interested in the progression of scouting in the district is most welcome.

Mr Laughton said there had been a lot of planning for a busy year in 2011.

“So far this year the Scouts have planned an indoor rock climbing event, a camp at Woodhouse in the Adelaide Hills and a family camp near Blanchetown on the River Murray,” he said.

Joey Scouts meet on Tuesdays from 5.45pm to 6.45pm, Cub Scouts meet from 7pm to 8.30pm and Scouts meet on Thursdays 7pm to 8.30pm.

Melodrama date change If you’ve already pencilled in this year’s melodrama dates, it’s time to find the eraser.

Due to circumstances beyond the group’s control, Two Wells Melodrama Group has been forced to possibly reschedule the dates for this year’s production and also change the name of the show.

“One of our principal cast members has been advised of a university study commitment for the entire week leading up to and including the first performance on Friday, May 13,” group member Kay Boon said.

Group members have been seeking the best solution, so those wanting to book are asked to be patient for one more week.

Ribbon to be cut on centre District Council of Mallala’s Service Centre in Two Wells will be officially opened on Wednesday, March 23, at 10am.

Chief executive officer, Charles Mansueto, said there would be some formalities followed by cutting the ribbon celebrations.

“We have invited people from the community who have been involved in the Visitor Information Centre.”

Mr Mansueto said the office was receiving visits from tourists. He hoped the opening would promote its services to the local community. There are about 10 council staff based at the Two Wells service centre, including district planner, Henri Mueller, his staff and two customer service officers.

Councillor’s invitation falls on deaf ears

Referring to councillor Duncan Kennington’s “Message to Residents” in the February issue of the Echo.

I have to say his encouragement to residents to attend the “open forum” at District Council of Mallala (DCM) meetings has fallen on deaf ears as far as I am concerned after my experience of speaking up on an “issue of relevance”.

I was treated with belligerence, arrogance and rudeness from some of the Lewiston councillors because I had the audacity to voice concerns expressed by many of us about the safety aspects of the proposed location of Lewiston playground.

When I asked Cr Anne Picard if she was listening to me I received the very abrupt

and rude retort of: “No, not really.”I have to say everyone else in that room looked extremely shocked at her remark.

How on earth can Cr Kennington say residents’ comments are helpful to councillors who have to make decisions on their behalf when, after the Two Wells public meeting which he and the other members of his “gang of six” attended and saw the overwhelming support for the development there – then promptly voted against it at a DCM meeting.

I would say to anyone in the Lewiston ward, who may have an issue of concern, to take it to one of the other fair-minded councillors from another ward who have our interests at heart, as in my opinion council-

lors in Lewiston, plus two from Two Wells, seem to be doing their best to hold back any form of progress which the remainder of the councillors and council staff in Mallala Council are hoping to achieve.

Through our rates we pay the salaries of these councillors so I would ask for a complete turnaround of their behaviour – or otherwise resign from council and let people who do have ratepayers’ interests at heart take a turn and let this council go forward as it is trying to do.

I add all these comments are from my personal experience and from what I have seen over the last few months – and it’s not pleasant.

Police warning as thieves hit coast Residents across the district should be extra vigilant after a spate of robberies.

Middle Beach and Port Parham have been targeted, and at least six houses have been broken into, with significant thefts reported.

Mallala Police are investigating the forced entry of a shack on the Esplanade, Port Parham.

Offenders gained entry into the shack by removing glass panes from a louvre window. Once inside the offenders located a number of keys

which they used to enter a shed at the rear of the property. The keys were also used to open a shed on a neighbouring property.

A GPS, fish finder, tools, alcohol and cash were taken.

• Police are also investigating

the forced entry into a house at Reeves Plains.

It is alleged the offenders gained entry by forcing a rear sliding door.

No property was taken from inside the house.

tioner valued at $8000 was taken from outside the premises. The unit was brand new and had only recently been installed.

A tribute to BOB BAKER,

would describe Bob Baker as a rough diamond, a knock about, down to earth bloke, a true Aussie.

Bob speaks his mind, he is as honest as the day is long and as a friend, they don’t come any better.

Bob was born in 1938 to parents who were share farmers. The eldest of three children, Bob had a younger brother and an even younger sister.

His parents farmed in Queensland, Monarto, Keith and Hamilton (near Kapunda). They also worked land at Lenswood, which was almost totally consumed by two massive bushfires about a year apart.

The parents then purchased property at Two Wells. Bob left home at 14 to cut mallee roots. An extremely hard sevendays-a-week job in excessive conditions.

He then worked on properties on the West Coast in the Cenduna/Smoky Bay area.

It was while working on these properties that, because of a lack of skilled tradesmen, he took to vehicle mechanics.

Self taught, I rate him as a genius. Even today, he has many friends in those areas.

Until recently, he would make a yearly pilgrimage back to the area to renew friendships and do some fishing.

It was there he met his future wife, Avis.

Returning to Two Wells, he began an apprenticeship as a welder/ boiler maker and then worked for lengthy periods at Horwood Bagshaws and Proline.

Night times, weekends and public holidays, he would play mechanic, always a first class job and always at very,very reasonable rates.

Bob also had ‘a go’ at local politics. He stood in the council elections for the town seat of Two Wells against the incumbent,

who came from a family of leading farmers and business people. There was no doubt some people found this quite laughable.

But there is an old saying– he who laughs last, laughs longest. Yes, Bob won.

Two years ago, Bob became very ill and his doctors feared the worst. Bob, however, had other ideas.

He fought back, recovered and returned home. He resumed his visits.

allowed him to call every 11 or 12 days.

We shared a cup of coffee, a piece of cake, a couple of smokes, a good laugh, a healthy discussion on the day’s major topic – the simple things in life.

Last year, the same thing happened, only this time the problems were multiplied when Bob contracted pneumonia.

We were extremely concerned, and Bob spent four days in intensive care.

A week after he was hospitalised, I spoke

to him on the phone. Well, I spoke and Bob rasped a few words. I hung up– it was gut wrenching.

A week later, we were able to carry out a conversation and there was hope.

Then after five very long and arduous weeks, he was able to leave the hospital.

It was certainly a miracle.

Bob is no longer plain Bob. His name has grown in stature and he has been elevated to ‘Lazarus.’

A big sale is currently on at Two Wells community op-shop with all money to be donated to the Queensland flood appeal.

Shoppers can fill a bag full of items from the shop for only $5, and contribute to rebuilding Queensland after a summer of disasters.

Op-shop co-ordinator, Pam Duncan, said items were being donated to the op-shop faster than they could be sold.

“It’s very full so we’re trying to clear it out. But this is also a good way to donate funds to the flood appeal,” she said.

“Quite a lot can fit in the bags for $5 so it’s great value.

And remember it’s a great cause.

So come in and have a browse.”

She said it had been pretty well supported so far, but there was still a lot of stock in the shop.

So much so, there is talk of extending the building.

Two Wells Regional Action Team president, Steve Kennedy, has resigned his position.

He informed vice president, Eddie Stubing, by letter which was presented to TWRAT’s committee meeting on Wednesday, February 16.

Mr Kennedy’s letter gave business and personal reasons for the decision. Mr Stubing will take over as president.

He has had a 25 year involvement with the Two Wells and districts community in many capacities.

These include inaugural president of Lewiston Residents’ Association, Lewiston picnic organiser, Two Wells councillor on District Council of Mallala for two terms, chairman and then mayor of council, member of Mallala foreshore advisory committee and president of Two Wells

“My involvement with TWRAT has been both very rewarding and extremely interesting,” Mr Kennedy said.

“I am extremely proud of what the team has achieved over the years and am sure this will continue well into the future with the current and potential future members,” he said.

Mr Kennedy has moved away from the district and said it was

difficult to maintain his involvement in the community. He had also enjoyed seeing the Two Wells Echo transition from a community photocopied newsletter.

“I have really enjoyed working with the professional team on the highly successful Echo transfer and hope it continues to grow for you all,” he said.

Mr Kennedy, a member of the Royal SA yacht Squadron, will be busy in his new role on the club’s cruising committee.

But there are a few items the shop does not need any more of. Op-shop volunteer Margaret Gameau said there was an issue

with old televisions. “As with all other op-shops, we are having trouble with people dropping off old TVs and electrical appliances,” she said.

“We don’t have room for all the old TVs and people just keep dropping them.”

Two Wells has been struck by another bout of graffiti in the past few weeks.

The most recent graffiti has covered a new fence adjacent to the train line and Tangari Estate with colourful vandalism. Also vandalised is a building at the corner of Hayman and Old Port Wakefield roads.

It is believed the vandalism was done by the same offender.

Bronte Hewett reports: Two Wells police officer-incharge, Grant Devlin, said graffiti, no matter how professional, was simply not socially acceptable.

A 13-year-old Gawler youth was arrested for an alleged separate graffiti rampage on Two Wells which

occurred on the last weekend in January.

Many buildings in the town were plastered with writing and ‘tags’, and the youth was caught on CCTV cameras.

He has been charged and bailed to appear in court in March.

Senior constable Devlin said graffiti had not been an issue in Two Wells for a number of years.

“Up until recently, we hadn’t really had an issue,” he said.

He said young people idolised the more professional graffiti artists.

The young offender told police that good graffiti artists were his heroes.

“Once someone is well-known and does recognisable graffiti, other vandals won’t paint over it.”

“If you can get people to do something that is good for the community, which is painted well, it’s not going to get painted over by other vandals,” he said.

Get in the PICture Have you registered?

South Australia has taken a step in protecting livestock from exotic diseases as well as other emergencies such as bushfires and floods.

Changes to Property Identity Codes are now in place to maintain a data base of locations of livestock across Australia.

All properties in the district holding livestock should have been registered from January 1, when the existing Property Identity Code (PIC) system became mandatory.

SA properties with one or more livestock, including horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, goats, deer, alpacas, donkeys, mules, camels and llama, need to register with Biosecurity SA and obtain a PIC. This applies to all properties where these animals are kept, including rural, peri-urban and suburban properties.

Horses benefit from vet school

Horse owners are set to reap benefits from the establishment of the new Adelaide University veterinary school at Roseworthy.

A northern horse owners forum was held at the school on February 24 and is the first of many opportunities to be provided in partnership with the horse industry.

The free forum was hosted by Horse SA, the representative body which promotes horses as a part of Australian culture. Horse SA works at all levels of government, business and non-profit organisations through to grass roots horse owners.

The forums are aimed at promoting community engagement, education and industry-oriented research opportunities.

“The new vet school, in particular the equine health program, is a much needed boost for the state’s horse industry” said Horse SA’s executive officer, Julie Fiedler

Professor Gail Anderson, head of the School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences, guides a public tour group through the health centre.

“Investment in high quality people, visionary strategic planning and a genuine commitment to raise the skill and knowledge level of everyone from horse owners to equine veterinarians will reap untold benefits for our horses and our industry into the future.”

Expertise has been gathered from around the world with such specialities as diagnostic imaging, parasitology, pharmacology,

sports medicine, equine medicine and surgery.

One recently-recruited staff member from the UK, Dr Samantha Franklin, shared some of the latest knowledge on respiratory problems in sports horses during the horse owners’ forum.

Dr Franklin’s presentation included an overview of a new diagnostic tool called an “on board scope” – a device mounted on a

bridle allowing veterinarians to view via a laptop exactly what is happening with the airways of a horse whilst being ridden for exercise or gallop training. It is the first tool of its type to be imported into Australia.

Professor Chris Riley, head of Equine Health Programs, provided an update to horse owners on the planned equine hospital and new equine veterinary services to be offered to the general public starting soon.

Horse owners had an opportunity to tour the new teaching and learning facilities that have been completed to date, as part of the forum program. “ We are looking forward to working closely with horse owners and other members of our $15 billion industry to provide highly trained veterinary professionals, to assist them and their veterinarians with new technologies and expertise, and to form the necessary partnerships to

put South Australia at the forefront of equine research.”

As a part of the forum, horse property owners could bring along bore or dam water for salinity testing, paddock soil for pH tests and pasture weeds for identification by staff from the Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges Natural Resources Management Board.

There was even a free horse manure sample test to determine equine internal parasite burdens.

The evening also provided an opportunity for horse owners in the northern regions to share insights about recreational riding trails and public land that is important to preserve from development.

Kirsty Dudley, from Light Regional Council, provided a regional development overview before seeking to gather information by inviting horse owners to draw their favourite trails onto a regional map.

Volunteer safety focus at workshop Local volunteers are encouraged to attend an Environmental workshop at Dublin Institute on Tuesday, March 22 from 6–7pm.

Volunteers who work on outside projects such as planting, signage and weed removal will benefit from the workshop, which will focus on volun-

teer safety, risk management and ways to avoid injury. The initiative is supported by District Council of Mallala .

Reading became novel summer fun for children Summer has been busy for book worms across the district, who together read 487 books during the “Scare Up A Good Book” program.

The 2010/2011 summer reading program was a huge success for the District Council of Mallala Library Service.

Library manager, Kimberley Hargrave, said it was good to again see it well supported.

“This is the fourth year the Two Wells Public Library and branches have been involved in this national initiative,” she said.

“A total of 42 children registered.

The number of children who completed the program was fantastic (37), who read a total of 487 books!”

She said this was a huge increase from previous years.

The program is supported by the Australian Library and Information Association and aims to encourage children to read in the summer months from November – February, when traditionally literacy levels fall.

Marketing the program using a media release resulted in good coverage in local newspapers, and on council’s website and publications.

On February 16, parents and children who completed the program gathered to celebrate the conclusion of the Summer Reading Program and to receive their prizes.

All children were presented with a certificate and a book prize, and

enjoyed some healthy party food afterwards.

SA Water Library also donated books for families to enjoy, which featured Captain Plop.

To promote the online database Encyclopaedia Britannica, library staff were available for express one-on-one demonstration sessions for children and parents.

Each child was given a customised book mark with registration details on how to access the database.

“This was so popular some children did not want to leave the library and go home for dinner,” Kimberley said.

“Thank you to all the parents, children and relatives who assisted with promoting and participating in the program.

“We look forward to the next exciting program to be launched later this year.”

The Families Learning and Growing (FLAG) group is focusing on all things Australian this term.

On Tuesday, February 22, the group ventured to Humbug Scrub to locate native wildlife.

The children experimented with dot painting at another session on Tuesday, March 1.

Tameka top trooper Scouting wasn’t exciting enough for Two Wells girl Tameka Simons.

Instead she was attracted to guns and the camouflage uniform of the Legion Army Cadets.

And one and a half years after joining, the 12-year-old has been awarded runnerup Cadet of the Year and has upgraded her status to Platoon Leader.

Tameka said she liked the discipline side of Army Cadets, and the fact it

provided a good future and helped the whole country.

“We do drills with rifles, marching, camps and take turns in doing patrols,” Tameka said.

To earn the runner up Cadet of the Year, Tameka showed complete loyalty and consistency to her role in Army Cadets.

She said it was a huge surprise.

“I kind of froze,” she said.

“I just stood there for a few seconds saying ‘oh my god,

they called my name’,” she said.

Her dad, Scott, said Tameka couldn’t wait to wear the Army greens.

“She loves the uniform,” he said. “The cadets is good because of the discipline. It teaches good life skills, and is a good opportunity to work in a team,” Scott said.

Tameka has also been involved in the ANZAC day service in Gawler for the past three years, by giving wreaths out to dignitaries.

Air ‘aces’ on show

See the planes, meet the pilots and hear those immortal words “gentlemen, start your engines.”

The weekend of April 2–3 will see the return of the Adelaide “golden era air races” to the Constellation Model Flying club field at Brookes road, Waterloo Corner (UBD 48 K10 or Gregory’s 77 E10 ).

This biennial event, which has been staged since 1997, has grown from a modest two class racing event to what is now considered to be the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere to celebrate the “golden era” and “reno” air races, albeit in the form of large radio-controlled model aircraft.

This year’s event will feature more than 80 aircraft from around Australia contesting the golden era (1926

-1947), reno (war birds), Texan/At-6 (Harvard ) and the new class for this year, Formula 1 (Goodyear racing aircraft ).

These models, ranging up to eight foot span with motors around the 100cc mark, will be flown round a triangular race course and carefully monitored by time keepers and flag men to ensure pilots do not commit any “indiscretions” whilst airborne.

If you think this event is just your cup of tea and the words “ fast and furious” are part of your vocabulary, then get to Constellation Model Flying Field over the weekend of April 2 and 3.

Gates open to the public from 9am each day with a modest entry fee per car load with children free.

d’VineRipe growth brings jobs

South Australian glasshouse tomato producer d’VineRipe will have the capacity to produce 10,000 tonnes of tomatoes a year – double the annual production output of the past three years. About 100 new jobs will be created.

Stage Two of a total $65 million, 17-hectare glasshouse development at Two Wells officially opened on Tuesday, February 22.

Kindy kids shape up to learning Two Wells Community Children’s Centre is back into the swing of things in 2011, as kindergarten, childcare and playgroup restarts.

Preschoolers have been busy with a new program.

This year the preschool teachers and qualified childcare workers have begun developing a program together, to learn and extend on each other’s knowledge and ideas.

This term the group will be working with the children on numeracy, space, shape, oral literacy and phonics.

Space will include completing puzzles with interlocking pieces, identifying personal space of self and others and using blocks to build 3D constructions.

Shape will include recognising shapes, naming and labelling shapes, matching shapes to items seen in the environment and using descriptive words when discussing shape.

Oral literacy will explain letters by teaching children to recognise and label letters, matching letters, children recognising groups of letters together for example, their name.

In phonics children will be learning the phonological sounds of letters.

Tennis coaching a hit Tennis has returned with everyone ready and rearing to go.

Junior coaching on Monday’s has attracted a lovely group of children ranging from 5 - 14 years of age.

This year the club has been fortunate to have the very patient Brian Lloyd provide an excellent standard of coaching to suit all ages and abilities.

Many of the children with their determination have improved their technical skills so much that, many will be ready for Saturday morning tennis next season.

Saturday morning tennis recommenced February 5, the previous week being cancelled due to the extreme hot weather.

All teams were eager to return to the court, enjoying a competitive hit of tennis against other local teams.

We are noticing many of the players have certainly improved their skills and game play, through their enjoyment of

Wednesday and alternate Friday night tennis is still running, but finding it difficult to compete with the unseasonal weather and the preseason football and netball training commitments.

This year the committee have been fundraising frantically to repay the overdue debt for the loan repayments for the resurfacing of the Netball/Tennis courts in 2003.

This has been helped by the social evenings of tennis on Wednesdays and alternate Fridays, delicious donuts, a chocolate frog fundraiser and “The Running of the Balls”.

Winners will be phoned and results will be published in The Plains Producer March 9. This will be a spectacle to see, so come along to view this unique draw.

The bowls season is fast approaching the end of the Competitive season.

In the last four weeks the pennant teams both men and women have returned to the winning ways they were enjoying prior to the end of December.

Since the last report the performance of the teams for the last week of January and the first three weeks of February been more successful and no team will be demoted. Club Breakup and Presentations of trophies is on Saturday, March 12 at 6.30pm.

The AGM will be held on Sunday May 8 at 1.30pm Two lady members will be celebrating their birthdays in March, with Rene Launer turning 96 on the 8th and Ivy Southgate turning 93 on the 16th.

Amazingly, both of these ladies are still active members of the Woman’s Pennant teams.

Golf member working bees Over the summer break, Two Wells Golf Club committee members have been busy preparing the course for the club’s opening day on April 9.

Through the combined efforts of Robert Hogg and John Ball, the planned improvements for the club have been achieved and will be acknowledged.

Club captain Paul Shields said the efforts of committee members was appreciated.

“Without the hard work of the lads over summer and the kind generosity of those involved with making the new improvements by donating materials, machinery and most importantly their time, the work would not have been completed prior to the season opening day,” he said.

The annual pre-season working bees have been programmed for the weekends of March 26-27 and April 2-3.

“It is asked all members attend to assist and lend a hand to ensure the course is prepared for the 2011 season,” Mr Shields said.

Mr Shields said the big rain prior to Christmas and the rains this year had assisted the overall appearance of the usually dry fairways.

“The course has taken a green tinge with grasses emerging along with the usual summer weeds.”

“It is encouraging to note the amount of new growth on all the vegetation around the course.,” Mr Shields said.

The works completed in this new stage of redevelopment involved the ladies fifth tee block being removed thereby extending the hole 15 metres back to the men’s tee block.

The tee was then moved to the ninth and brought forward to align the current distance with the moving of the ninth scrape back 110 metres for the ladies.

The ninth scrape has now been moved back directly behind the existing scrape and has been shaped and raised to allow water to run off.

The fairway is now captured by the row of trees both sides which then screen the tenth tee block and reduce the risk of being hit whilst playing the hole.

The third tee has been moved to the right at the same distance making it a slight dogleg and the split fairway removed.

The eighth tee block has been moved back 30 metres and has been elevated similar to the sixth tee block.

Mr Shields said Two Wells Golf Club website was still being developed.

“The work done so far is excellent with thanks to both Stuart Grigg and Adam Bail for their work in preparing the site and the weekly results which have now been included.

“There are still a lot of areas to be completed including a member’s gallery of both current and past players,” he said.

But it should be ready for the members to look at by opening day.

The altered hole distances now are; Mens: 8th: Mens - 291m to 321m. 9th: Mens - 436m t0 546m Out: Mens - 2195m to 2335m. In: Mens – same. Total: Mens - 5059m to 5199m.

Ladies: 5th: Ladies 258m to 273m. Out: Ladies - 2159m to 2174m. In: same. Total: Ladies - 4550 to 4565.

CASUAL RELIEF LIBRARY ASSISTANTS Gawler Public Library is a vibrant, busy, highly regarded community information centre providing a range of services to a large regional area. As a result of previous casual staff successfully gaining permanent employment, the Library is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified and/or experienced persons to be considered for casual relief work.

Through a Memorandum of Understanding with the District Council of Mallala, Casual Relief Library Assistants may also be offered work at the Two Wells Public Library.

Excellent customer service skills are required.

Familiarity with computerised library systems and with the Internet will be advantageous. From 1st March until the end of Fire Danger Season 30th April (unless changed by CFS Chief Officer) Burning Permits may be issued for the purpose of General Broadacre Burning.

Application for fire permits can be obtained from the District Council of Mallala office at Mallala and Two Wells or Council Web site at www.mallala.sa.gov.au. To ensure you have a Burning Permit when you want to burn please apply for the Burning Permit a minimum of 48 Hours before it is required by filling out the application form and faxing or presenting to one of the Council Office.

Please be advised that a seasonal Burning Permit may be issued to the Permit holder for a period of more than one day and all Fire Permits must be validated by ringing the Council Office on the morning of the intended burn.

Please also take note of the Burning Conditions supplied with Burning Permit including the conditions on the back of the Burning Permit before commencing the burn. These must be complied with.

Roosters call all past and present fans Two Wells centenary year

The celebration of Two Wells football club’s centenary of football will occur on July 16 this year.

While the details of the celebratory events are being developed by an organising committee, it is important to inform the many people across SA and beyond who have been involved with football at Two Wells, of this occasion.

Member for the Legislative Council, and of the centenary organising committee John Dawkins, said the celebration would also mark two other occations.

“In addition, it is worthwhile noting the celebrations will also highlight the history of netball in the town (since 1937), as well as the period (1959-74)

in which Two Wells and Virginia played football as an amalgamated club,” Mr Dawkins said.

“Over the past 100 years Two Wells footballers have participated in a number of competitions,” he said.

The club has been a part of the Adelaide Plains league, Gawler and Districts league, as well as the Lower North, Gawler and Central Districts associations. Any memorabilia would be appreciated to contribute to the celebrations.

Two Wells junior netball and football training is beginning throughout March, with netball coaches sought for junior teams.

The netball club is also looking for senior umpires to umpire on Saturdays. If you are interested in the positions, please contact Neralie Wearn on 0418 828 559.

Training and sign up for the junior netballers commenced at 5.30pm on March 2 at the netball courts.

Football senior colts (U17) have started training on Monday nights at 5pm with new coach Adrian Daly Junior colts (U14) started on Monday, February 28 at 5.30pm with returnung coach David Gameau.

U11 start Thursday, March 24 at 5pm with coach Joe Cannizzaro and U8 are set to start on the same night at 5pm.

The second and final grading trial for senior netball will be on Wednesday, March 2, with teams training in their grades from Thursday, March 10.

About 35 girls have been training, and new A1 coach Barry Semen has been made welcome.

Senior footballers continue training on Monday and Wednesdays with solid numbers.

A trial game has been arranged with Ardossan on March 26 at Two Wells oval.

Up to three netball teams could also be participating in trial games if Ardrossan can provide the teams.

Club working bee on Sunday, March 20 at 10am, including Cricket and Tennis Clubs.
