Residents concerned over plans to pump recycled water underground

water from Bolivar into the underground aquifer, where it can be stored and used as part of the Northern Adelaide Irrigation Scheme (NAIS). The MAR trial is planned to both make up part of the overall development of NAIS and provide evidence of the performance and

safety of MAR storage in that part of the aquifer. It is hoped it will be able to store water in winter of 2015 and then supply water by 2016. The aquifer services a number of bores for residents in the Port Gawler, Two Wells and Virginia area, many of them without access

to mains water. The bores provide water for cooking, cleaning and in some cases, drinking, which residents felt could be contaminated if treated water is pumped into the aquifer. n Continued Page 6
