Nine-year-old Tayla Simons has been selected to represent the state in calisthenics in Darwin next month.

Young Lewiston resident, Tayla Simons, has a dilemma on her nine-yearold hands.

Should she be more excited about being selected to represent the state in calisthenics for the first time, or about her upcoming first plane ride?

Oh, the joys of childhood!

Tayla is one of 12 girls selected in the South Australian Calisthenics Sub-Junior Development Team to compete in the Frangipani Cup in Darwin next month,

which will see youngsters from around the country challenge each other in a variety of routines.

The September 22 date has Tayla chalking up hours of practice and kilometers in travel in preparation and is something she is very excited about.

“I’m really looking forward to going on my first aeroplane ride,” Tayla said.

“And competing against all the other girls will be so much fun, I can’t wait.”

$44,000 ‘empowers’ our primary school

Two Wells Primary School has been selected to take part in the Federal Government’s Empowering Local Schools initiative and was awarded just over $44,000 to facilitate its LIFE (Learning Includes Family Engagement) project.

Federal Member for Wakefield, Nick Champion, said the ELS initiative would see $5.6 million shared amongst more than 80 South Australian schools to build stronger links between schools and their local communities “This funding will put more power in the hands of principals and school leaders because we know they are in the best position to make the right decisions for their students and schools,” Mr Champion said.

TWPS deputy principal, Lynda Fitzpatrick-Brown said the school’s LIFE project centered on the ideas of improving communication between the school and its families, providing access to the school through a variety of media and helping families better understand

the curriculum.

“We value family input because that’s where learning starts; at home,” Mrs Fitzpatrick-Brown said.

“We want to expand the way we communicate with families.

“Through workshops on curriculum we want to build families’understanding and knowledge of educational programs in the school, to help them connect with and better assist their child’s learning.”

Mrs Fitzpatrick-Brown said the school would use multi-media to build partnerships with its families and had already run parent workshops on reading and maths, offering sessions during and after school hours, catering for families.

Local mum, Mel Sochacki, has two children at the school and participated in the parent workshops.

“It was very helpful and showed me good strategies to help the kids,” she said.

More workshops are on the cards for next term.

Tayla says her strength is her rod routine but she also really enjoys song and action, and march disciplines.

“I have good technique and timing,” she said. “But it will be a great challenge for me.”

• Remember Tinker the Palouse Pony from the last edition of The Echo?

Her owner, Natasha Hogan is organising a garage sale to raise funds for other neglected and mistreated horses, with all proceeds from the day going straight to horse charity Pony Rescues/Surrenders.

The event will be held on Saturday September 22 at 67 Williams Road, Two Wells, from 9am.

There will be a host of things for sale including clothes, toys, household furniture, books and much more. A sausage sizzle will keep everyone fed and there will also be a raffle and other challenges for the kids. Tinker may even pop her head in for a visit!

Barbara returns for ‘back to church’ • St Paul’s Anglican Church in Two Wells will host a “Back to Church” event on Sunday, September 9.

The 10am service will be led by recently-retired Reverend, Barbara Bonifant, who has come out of retirement especially for this day. Barbara was farewelled by Mallala and Two Wells congregattions at a luncheon at Mallala hotel on July 1. Morning tea will be held after the service. All are welcome.

Apply now for voluntary grant scheme • Local organisations are being urged to apply for the next round of the Grants to Voluntary Environment, Sustainability and Heritage Organisations (GVESHO) program.

Federal Member for Wakefield, Nick Champion, said the grants are designed to support community based volunteer organisations that work to preserve the environment or our heritage.

More signs from $5000 Coast Care grant • District Council of Mallala has received a $5000 Coast Care community grant to improve signage along its coastal boundaries. The funds will be used to place signs along coastal areas to assist in educating the public about the sensitive coastal areas in the district. The signs will be erected at Port Gawler, Parham, Thompson Beach and Middle Beach.

Council review may bring big changes The number of councillors representing the residents of the District Council of Mallala could be reduced and wards a thing of the past, following a report by a consulting firm.

DCM chief executive officer, Charles Mansueto, said council’s Elector Representation Review was looking at options for council’s future structure and was seeking community feedback on the report.

The report, by CL Rowe and Associates, highlights a number of key issues including: • The principal officer of Council, more specifically whether it should be a mayor or chairperson • Need for area councillors in addition to ward councillors • Division of the council area into

wards, or alternatively the abolition of wards • Number of elected members required to provide fair and adequate representation to the community • Level of ward representation (i.e. single and/or multi councillor wards, or combinations thereof) • Name of the council area and/or any proposed future wards The report also states: “At the end of the review process, any proposed changes to Council’s composition and/or ward structure must serve to uphold the democratic principle of ‘one person, one vote, one value’.

“Bearing this in mind, it is highly likely any future ward structure of

council will, in the main, be determined by the requirement for an equitable distribution of elector numbers between wards, rather than be based specifically on any socioeconomic, regional or topographic factors.”

Mr Mansueto said the district currently has four wards and 11 councillors; Mallala (2 councillors), Two Wells (3), Lewiston (4) and Dublin (2), but the report highlighted Dublin as being above the 10 percent tolerance allowed by legislation.

“Under the (Local Government) Act we’ve got to make sure the wards are fairly represented and currently Dublin is outside the required tolerance,” he said.

“The review will give council an opportunity to plan the growth occur-

ring in the district (and) how best it can achieve fair and adequate community representation.

“Council will get a general consensus of what the community is after from their feedback.”

The Elector Representation Review will be conducted through a two–stage process, with the first round of community consultation seeking feedback on the report, beginning on Wednesday, August 29, for a six-week period.

Following this, feedback will be collated and analysed, with council then establishing a specific option for the community to consider at a later date through a second consultation process.

Cash rolls in to support skate park push The Two Wells skate park project received a much-needed boost last month, with the donation of $500.

Representatives from Two Wells and Lewiston Neighbourhood Watch and Two Wells Blue Light Disco presented the Two Wells Regional Action Team with the cheque on Thursday, August 23.

Sergeant Carol Gallie, from Nuriootpa, said the Blue Light committee wanted to support a local youth-based initiative, and the skate park project fits the bill.

“We are very proud to be able to give something to the youth of the Two Wells community,” Sergeant Gallie said.

“We’re about promoting activities

for young people that’s held in a fun and safe environment and the facilities this group is hoping to create is shown to reduce crime in youth and engage them in physical activity.”

In other skate park news, local businessman and TWRAT member, Tony Lange, spoke to councilors during public forum at the District Council of Mallala’s Monday, August 27, meeting.

“The BMX track we have is unused and we are suggesting a refurbishment of that site into a BMX/ skate park,” he told councilors.

Mr Lange also spoke of TWRAT’s skate park committee and how its members, along with a few keen skaters and BMX riders, toured the

district recently to view skate parks in other areas.

The group visited Clare and Balaklava, and has also been to Port Pirie and Adelaide.

“We believe the tourism of a skate park is something to consider,” he said.

“After talking to the youths at Clare, some of them travelled all over the state visiting different skate parks, and if we could have something that sets us apart, something no other skate park had, like a Euro-step, we could bring people into the town from outside the area.”

Mr Lange also told councillors about the recent donation by the Two Wells Blue Light team.

“They went to lengths to tell us how important it will be to our community for the adolescents of our town,” Mr Lange said.

“This is something to bring the best out in the kids.”

Councillors briefed on impact of house plan

District Council of Mallala councillors have been briefed on proposed infrastructure requirements associated with the proposed Two Wells Residential Development by the Hickinbotham Group.

CEO, Charles Mansueto, said the briefing also included the initial assessment of the economic viability of the project from council’s perspective.

“The briefing allowed councillors to consider some of the funding and infrastructure issues that need to be considered,” Mr Mansueto said.

“Next step is to incorporate these into a draft development deed that will support the proposed development.

“This is a separate process to the Development Plan Amendment (DPA).”

Mr Mansueto said DCM was one of the first councils to use an economic model commissioned by the Local Government Association and other councils to assist them in analysing the economic impact of development.

“The current economic analysis of the proposed Two Wells Development shows a positive outcome for the community,” he said.

Council is expecting to consider the draft Development Deed within the next two months.

CFS gets a boost from new recuits A concerted effort by the Two Wells Country Fire Service to recruit new members is starting to pay off, with four new faces joining the brigade in recent weeks but more daytime volunteers are still needed.

Two Wells CFS brigade captain, Adam Harris, highlighted earlier in the year the need for more volunteers to help keep the service running smoothly and to relieve some of the pressure on current members, and in the past few months the brigade has launched a community awareness and recruitment program.

Adam said the new recruits were eager to learn and keen to get out and serve the community, and would be put through the relevant training procedures as soon as possible.

“Once they are trained it will take the pressure off the existing members and spread the workload around a bit more rather than having the same faces doing the same things,” he said.

Bec O’Brien reports:

“We are happy with the (recruitment) progress at the moment and there’s a lot of enthusiasm about the place with the new faces but we need another three or four daytime crew, people who are available to help during the day.”

The new recruits are teenagers Kiralee Melhuish and Danielle Sweetman, ex-air traffic controller and commercial flying instructor, Gerry Dowling and new Middle Beach resident, Nick Petho.

Seventeen-year-old Reeves Plains resident, Kiralee Melhuish, is looking forward to being involved with the service.

“I’ve always wanted to help out and give something back to the community,” she said.

“It’s going to be good fun, I’m loving it so far.”

Gerry is hoping to use his communication, reporting and radio skills to ease the ever-growing

paperwork of the CFS and work primarily behind the scenes.

He is already helping out with situation reports and logging call outs and is keen to do all the firefighting training as well.

Both Danielle and Nick are relishing the opportunity to help out the local community, and are looking forward to completing their firefighting training.

• In other CFS news, the brigade is preparing to stage a gas fire exercise, using live fire, in the car park of the town oval later this month (September).

Members and relevant appliances from Two Wells, Gawler River, Mallala and Dublin are expected to participate in the training exercise and the general public is invited to come along and watch the teams in action.

Historic items register

Two Wells and its surrounding districts have played a significant part in the development of South Australia from the early days of European settlement.

Items of historical interest are scattered throughout the region and being held by many families.

In the absence of a suitable venue for a local museum, it is proposed by the Two Wells Regional Action Team Inc (TWRAT) to establish a data register of the local items of historic interest.

The owners’ name, the item description and its current location are to be recorded along with any comments about its history and any future plans for its ownership status.

Brenton Applebee has long been establishing a great collection of local historic photographs and has now agreed to manage the TWRAT initiated database register. Dog owners facing new council rules

The historic wells area in Two Wells is slowly undergoing a transformation, with the Aboriginal sculptures from the Pudnarla Food Trail moved there recently.

District Council of Mallala horticulturalist, Pamela Drew, said the six steel sculptures were placed in the area following a request from the Two Wells Regional Action Team, which handed over care of the site to the DCM earlier this year.

The statues of a kangaroo, goanna on the fire, dingo, tribal elder and boy with a boomerang could now be enjoyed more by the public and helped link the area’s Aboriginal and settler history, Pam said.

“I’m happy with the progress,” she said.

“We’ve done a lot of clearing out all the dead wood and dead trees. We’re trying to open up the area and make it safer and more attractive for visitors.”

“It most probably will be a native grass area,” she said. “The existing paths are also going to be re-laid, using the pavers that are there and placing the name pavers back exactly where they area.”

Further down the track, Pam and her team hope to construct new paths and plant native local trees with plaques giving details of their species, Aboriginal use and relevance to the area.

“I would like to see more paths,” Pam said, “And I would like to incorporate the old machinery to have a holistic site that showcases our Aboriginal and European heritage.”

More work in the wells area is scheduled for spring, with council using funds from its works budget to manage and improve the site.

District Council of Mallala finally passed its new dog bylaw at its August meeting, paving the way for more cohesive policing of dog issues within the district.

Up until now, DCM had been powerless to manage dog numbers in the area.

Under the new bylaw residents in townships within the council area will be restricted to three dogs, as will those people living outside the town and within the Rural Living (Zone 1 and 2) areas.

Dog owners within the Rural Living (Animal Husbandry) zone are permitted up to nine dogs, and anyone not in one of these zones, up to five dogs.

DCM chief executive officer, Charles Mansueto, said the new bylaw now gave council the power to enforce dog numbers within specific zones and to deal with dog-related complaints more effectively.

It is expected the new bylaw will come into effect four months after it has been officially gazetted.

Exemptions will be provided to owners with registered dogs currently outside the new dog numbers. n In short: 4 Number of dogs in townships – no more than 3 dogs 4 Rural Living (Zone 1 & 2) – no more than 3 dogs 4 Rural Living (Animal Husbandry) Zone – no more than 9 dogs 4 Residents not in any of these zones – up to 5 dogs.

Survey probes name change A community survey has been endorsed by the District Council of Mallala and will seek residents’ thoughts on three major points, including whether council should change its name.

DCM chief executive officer, Charles Mansueto, said the survey is set to be distributed to residents before the end of the year and would guide council on how better to deliver specific services.

“The survey is seeking feedback from residents as to how they rate the importance of the services council provides and also rating council’s performance and delivery of that service,” he said.

Mr Mansueto said the survey is also seeking feedback from the community as to whether the name of council should be changed, and it would be interesting to see what residents had to say. n The three questions set out in the survey are: 1 – Do you support the existing name of Council, the District Council of Mallala Y/N? 2 – Are you a regular reader of the Council Communicator newsletter Y/N? 3 – What delivery of the Communicator would you most support and at what frequency would you like it distributed?

Junior primary classes started the celebrations with a range of cute performances, including Dingle, Dangle Scarecrow, Knock, Knock jokes and an

Indonesian Song. Later primary classes entertained with a poetry recital, rap song, play and songs.

The school choir also sang.

After each concert, classes were open for relatives and friends to look through and admire students’ work.

Champ deserves his Pat Lewiston resident Pat Wake and her two and a half -year-old kelpie, Twistie, have taken out the inaugural South Australian Herding Association Championships.

Pat attended the event, held at Rosedale near Gawler, on the weekend of August 22 and 23, after only being in the sport for the past 12months.

She has been training for just 18 months with local dog trainer, Colin Meaney.

Pat said this was her second season competing in the herding events and was proud of Twisitie’s achievement, and also that of her other kelpie, Doritos.

“My dogs are pets first,” Pat said. “This is a sport for me but I am very chuffed.”

Over the course of the weekend Pat and her dogs were challenged to complete two different courses. The first was working three sheep through a range of obstacles in a paddock situation.

The second was herding three sheep over a shorter course in a 40x60m area. Each dog and their trainer are allowed two runs for each course, and are given 10 minutes to complete a single run.

Points are deducted for going outside the defined course, not keeping sheep together and behavior, with the highest score out of 100 for each run.

The team with the highest score in the competition over the two days is named winner. Twistie’s highest score was 96/100 while Doritos scored an honourable 89/100.

Being quiet and calm around the sheep is key to success, Pat says, with her using a range of single commands,

such as stop, over, back, wait and come, to instruct her dogs.

“I’ve had kelpies for years, they are very, very faithful dogs,” she said.

“They are very quick to learn and their skill and ability is just amazing.

“Watching the dogs do what they are bred to do naturally, you are sort of in awe.”

Pat is also a member of the South Australian Working Sheepdog Association, which is specifically for traditional farm-type dog breeds, like Border Collies and Kelpies.

In the next three years Pat’s aim is to be invited to show her dogs’ working skills at the Royal Adelaide Show; an invitation-only privilege.

Disco Two Wells Blue Light Disco celebrated its fourth birthday on Friday August 10 with a “B” themed event attracting 170 youngsters.

There were numerous bumblebees and butterflies, a boxer, a ballet dancer and Batman even made an appearance.

A cool Nintendo Wii was awarded as part of the celebrations.

The next, and final, Blue Light for the year will be held on October 26 and follow a Ghosts and Ghouls Halloween theme, so start planning your ghostly costumes now.

Often children’s verbal communication improves, and their willingness to speak to other parents and children, during this time.

Leah Clifton, who regularly attends with her sons, four-year-old Logan and Curtis, seven months, believes it is a “good environment for kids to come and play, as well as interact with younger children and other parents”.

Two Wells Playgroup has an exceptional advantage due to the fact it is held at Two Wells Community

Children’s Centre, which is an integrated centre housing a kindergarten and child care under one roof.

The benefit of this is Playgroup children use the Kindy room, which in itself is a wonderful educational resource.

They see the Kindergarten teachers there and become acquainted with their friendly faces, as well as the childcare workers.

It is, inadvertently, an excellent transition from home life to kindergarten.

Playgroup is not just about the children; it is about mums, dads and carers too.

It is often a lifeline to new parents who are seeking shared experiences with other parents and it is not surprising life-long friendships have been formed through playgroup.

“Sometimes just having a coffee and a chat is needed to feel you are part of the world again,” says Jasmine.

“If you are thinking of going, you should just give it a try,” suggests Michelle Dimasi, whose youngest child, Gabriella, has just graduated from kindergarten and started school this term.

“We have found it to be a weekly, inexpensive, and enjoyable outing and have met some lovely families who we often see around the town.

Students at Two Wells Primary School were immersed in a range of energy-themed activities to celebrate Science week from August 11 – 19.

The theme for this year’s Science week was Energy Evolution, specifically looked at renewable energy sources and energy efficiency.

“I think its been a good, busy week and lots of kids turned up to spend their lunchtimes doing science week activities on energy,” Mrs Fitzpatrick-Brown said.

“Every class also had something to share at assembly (and) it was terrific seeing the wonderful science activities the students had been involved in with their teachers.”

As well as the lunchtime science lab and classroom activities, the school also had a visit from Mobile Science Education.

Mrs Fitzpatrick-Brown said presenter, Lee Harrison, was once again excellent and kept the students enthralled with a range of interactive science demonstrations.

“He was fabulous and so entertaining,” she said.

“He presented the science facts in a humorous and hands on manner which kept the kids engaged for one hour and forty minutes.”

Sophie’s garden delights Celebrating 80

n Well-known local resident, Lois Wasley, (left) celebrated her 80th birthday with family and friends at a lunch at the Lower Light Hotel on Wednesday, August 22. Lois also shared the party with good friend June Tutton, of South Plympton, who has the same birthday and was born in the same year! Both lovely ladies turned 80 on August 22 and Lois, it was rumoured, attended parties in her honour around the district for the best part of a week.

expert, Sophie Thomson, at the Two Wells Bowling Club on Wednesday, September 19.

This free event is presented by the District Council of Mallala’s library service, and will see Ms Thomson, who is currently a presenter for the ABC’s “Gardening Australia” television show, share her gardening knowledge and expertise.

“Sophie will be talking about preparing your garden for spring and members of the audience will be treated to door prizes which will include garden tools, magazines and fertilisers,” Two Wells Public Library coordinator, Anne Sawtell, said.

“Sophie’s passion for plants and gardening were passed on to her by her parents at their family’s plant nursery.”

As well as presenting for the ABC’s “Gardening Australia” TV show, Ms Thomson writes for Gardening Australia magazine and presents a weekly column for the Sunday Mail newspaper.

“She is also the author of ‘From the Ground Up – a complete guide for SA Gardeners’,” Anne said.

“She likes to help her clients develop water-wise, climate compatible gardens that have colour and interest throughout the year.”

Book Week parade entertains everyone

If you happened to visit Two Wells Primary School last Thursday you might have been surprised to see the students had all turned into characters from much loved books, nursery rhymes and movies.

The metamorphosis was all part of Book Week celebrations, with the staff and students celebrating in high sprits, despite the cold and wintry weather.

Although the annual parade through the streets of the town was cancelled, everyone gathered in the school’s gym and watched as each class paraded

There were witches and pirates galore, fairies, villains, lots of cute rabbits and superheroes, a few Cats in the Hat, even a Viking ship and an army of little Vikings. Jessie from the Toy Story was there, as was The Mad Hatter and the White Rabbit.

The parade was just one of many activities throughout the week in recognition of Book Week and its theme of Champions Read.

Earlier in the week, the students watched an engaging performance called “Pass The Poetry Please”.

Classes were also involved in a treasure hunt around the school based on the theme and some classes visited the Two Wells Public Library

Residents will soon be receiving a community survey.

It is important all residents complete this.

It will provide council with valuable information on what it is doing right, what it isn’t doing right, and any other areas of interest to the community.

The council spends millions of dollars of residents’ money each year and if people don’t speak up the best we can do is take a guess as to what should and shouldn’t happen.

• IT is important all residents make themselves aware of District Council of Mallala’s new rules on dogs.

Bylaw No 4 - Dogs is detailed and dog owning residents would be well advised to familiarise themselves with the by-law which will be on the council website.

I recently was invited to give a talk to Two Wells Scout Group about their involvement in a community revegetation project as part of their land care badge, a habitat corridor within the school grounds at Two Wells Primary School, which will increase biodiversity within our town.

Our region’s greatest environmental asset is its local biodiversity.

On my regular travels around our district it troubles me to see so many plant species that have escaped from peoples properties.

‘ICE’ is cool in an emergency

We all carry our mobile phones with names and numbers stored in its memory but if we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn’t know whom to call.

Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency?

Hence the “ICE” (In Case of Emergency) campaign – a method of contact during emergency situations.

As mobile phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name “ICE”.

The Adelaide Plains Equestrian Club (APEC) held its inaugural event on Sunday August 5, with a two-hour trail ride through farmland around Reeves Plains.

Twenty-two members took to their horses, leaving the Reeves Plains Indoor Arena with lots of chatter, laughter and excitement.

APEC publicity officer and local horsewoman, Julie Laughton, said it was terrific to see so many people participate in the club’s first ride, with the group really enjoying the peaceful surroundings and company.

Great team effort as all netball grades aim for flag Two Wells Netball Club had a excellent season this year with all teams making finals.

Well done to everyone involved! Results from finals played September 1 and 2 are in bold type.

A1 Our team has finished third but has beaten the top team and is really looking forward to finals.

Unfortunately the A1 team has had a couple of massive injury losses late in the season losing our star GD & GK Karen Penhall, and defender, Mia Darling, to serious injury.

We have had some great talent in A2 come up to fill in the spots.

Rhiannon Wendland, Sharni Kent, Steph Agnello and Karen Hardy have all filled in for the A1s this year. Well done girls.

Last year the A1 team lost in the first semi so our first goal is to play well and win the first semi.

Our brilliant goalies, in Trish Beere and Nicole Darling, have played well all year and combined with the experience of our centre court players, Neralie Wearn, Rebecca Pym and Stacey Gameau, who create opportunities and steady the team, have put us in a great position at the end of the minor round.

Our star performer and defender, Nicole Hardy, has also been invaluable this season.

These girls have backed up a premiership last year finishing top at the end of the minor rounds this year.

The tall combination in goals of Steph Walker and Sharnie Kent has improved each game this year and they are now a really tough combination to line up against. Rhiannon Wendland and Karen Hardy are continuing their form from last year and take good final experience into this final series.

Steph Agnello and Snowy McHugh have also been playing well in the centre court and will hope to play their best in the finals.

Jess Walker-Smith is one of our young ‘up and comers’ and plays awesome in defence, if she is playing well the team plays well.

Cheryl Herman has also performed well in defence and is a really tough opponent and always gives 100 per cent. These girls are a great premiership chance if they continue their good form.

Well, these girls have come good at the right end of the season to finish in second place, after sitting 3rd or 4th all year.

Last year they missed out on finals so they have already improved on that.

Their team has changed a bit during the year due to injures etc, but they have ended up with a good balance of experience and young talent.

There are some very good players in this team including Leah Clifton and Carly Heaslip, who have both played in final series in higher grades. Cristie Castle is an exciting player who is also one that if she plays well the team plays well.

Cassie Kent is also one of the reasons this team has been successful this year, she has improved her game immensely and has really been enjoying playing in the centre court, both attacking and defending efforts have been a great asset.

Kate Lange has also played well in the centre court, trying her best to get intercepts.

Kobey, Amanda and Jasmine have all combined well in defence creating opportunities through intercepts and putting pressure on the opposition. All of the girls have gelled as a team now and take confidence into the finals series.

A3: Balaklava 55 (Sharayah Hall) def Two Wells 28 (Carly Heaslip)

Jenny Cock’s girls once again had a successful season finishing top of the table.

They played in a premiership last year and are looking to repeat that success this year. Their team has changed with Shannen Weir a great young local talent slotting in well to goals with with Nicole Cocks, who has a couple of A4 premierships.

Maddy Seccafien is playing her first year of seniors in this team, so it’s exciting to watch her prove herself to be a great player of the future.

Lisa Cocks plays really well each week in the centre court creating opportunities and passing well into the goalies.

Jamie Dinham has come up from A5 and is proving herself to be a fantastic defender.

intercept and ready for every rebound, she is another exciting player.

Carli Warmington has come up from A6 and is a tall and experienced player in this team, either end of the court.

Kim and Mel Juvan are also very skillful players who are in the centre court and both take many intercepts for the team.

A4: Two Wells 38 (Maddy Seccafien) def Balaklava 35 (Aleisha Michael)

A5

Juanita (Winnie) Webster’s team is up in the top two again this year. They have had a great season with their mix of young and experienced players.

Sarah Dinham has once again played well in GS when she could be there due to work commitments.

Hannah Banford, a tall goalie, has come up from A6s and is starting to show some talent, but unfortunately she can only play every second week.

This has allowed Michelle Dimasi to pull back on her sneakers to help out when Sarah was away, which is a huge asset for the team.

Krystal Wilmshurst has stood out in the centre court for the A5 team, playing her first season in seniors, she will be one to watch in the future.

Gemma Wilmshurst also trys her best in the centre court for their team.

Maddy Sayner is back this year in the centre court providing great drive for her team. Emily Stringer provides great skills and experience in the centre court and defence end.

Zoe Grant played her first year in seniors in A5s this year, after an injury at the start of the season, but she has shown how good her skills could be in the future.

She will need to play well to help her side progress in the finals.

Winnie’s defensive skills have combined well with both Zoe & Lauren Bywaters, who gives her best every game, to complete a strong defensive line.

CASUAL RELIEF LIBRARY ASSISTANTS

Gawler Public Library is a vibrant, busy, highly regarded community information centre providing a range of services to a large regional area. Local talent on show at Two Wells Football & Netball Sporting Club’s…

With the 2012 football and netball season entering its final few weeks, members of the Two Wells Football and Netball Sporting Club let their hair down on Saturday August 19, hosting an open mic night showcasing some wonderful musical and vocal talents.

The appreciative crowd of around 130 couldn’t get enough of the artists, with many solo performances highlighting great voices, and skill on the acoustic and electric guitar, drums, even the harmonica.

Not restrict- ed to just musical artists, the event saw one young man brave enough to try his hand at stand up comedy.

TWF&NSC social committee member, Stephanie Walker, helped organise the night and was pleased with the turnout, saying it was terrific to witness some great local talent.

“The night was a huge success and it was great to see new faces as well as the regulars out in support of our local talent”, she said.

The final social event for the club will be its annual Redlow event on September 21.

n Seventeen-year-old Two Wells footballer, Mark Wylie, gave an impressive performance at the open mic night.

n Two Wells netballers, Carly Heaslip and Leah Clifton, enjoyed the show.

Grand finalists

It’s been 25 years since the Two Wells Football Club A Grade team last won a premiership.

On Saturday, September 1, the Roosters convincingly defeated Balaklava 17.10 (112) to 11.14 (80) in the second semi at Long Plains to make it into the 2012 grand final.

The Senior Colts advanced by defeating Balaklava by 34 points, 8.13 (61) to 4.3 (27) but the Reserves and Juniors try again in the preliminary at Balaklava against Virginia and Mallala respectively.

Reserves scores were: Balaklava 12.10 (82) d Two Wells 9.9 (63).

Junior Colts: Balaklava 10.14 (74) d Two Wells 1.2 (8) In the netball, the A4s, A5s and C2s are heading to the

grand final, with the A3s, A2s and C1s having to fight it out on Saturday, September 8, for that last spot in the main event.

Netball scores are on Page 15, with a review of the season by senior netball co-ordinator, Stacey Gameau.

It was quite an achievement for the Two Wells Football and Netball Sporting Club to have every netball and football, junior and senior, teams compete in the finals.

Playing dress-ups as minor round wraps up

There will be a sea of red and white at this year’s Adelaide Plains football and netball finals, with all teams from the Two Wells Football and Netball Sporting Club making it through to the business end of the season.

While it will be heads down, bums up (pardon the pun) come September, members celebrated the final minor round game with a dress up party at the clubrooms on August 25.

Everyone got into the spirit of the night, with many making the effort to dress up as something beginning with the letters T, W or R. n More photos, page 14
