POLICE BEAT Tweed woman missing in NT found safe PCL
By Jo Kennett A 71-YEAR-OLD Tweed Heads woman reported missing in a Northern Territory national park was found safe and well on Tuesday, June 8, after an extensive search. The alarm was raised after Maggie Dobbin failed to return from a walk from Wangi Falls to Tjaetaba Falls in Litchfield National Park — a hike of about 10km. Rescue specialists, police and park rangers commenced a search on Monday morning, but it wasn’t until around 3pm on Tuesday afternoon that the experienced hiker was found. Superintendent Brendan Muldoon said Ms Dobbin became disoriented and was unable to find her way back. “Luckily she was well-provisioned with food and water and a silver blanket, she had also found enough fresh water to stay hydrated. “She was resting in the shade this afternoon when she heard the helicopter and was able to walk to a point where she could be seen and was subsequently picked up by the helicopter.” The air and land search included NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services, NT Emergency

By Jo Kennett A MAN has been charged over the alleged assault of another man on Saturday, June 12, at Tweed Heads. Tweed Police said that at about 9pm emergency services were called to a unit on Kennedy Drive, Tweed Heads West, following reports a man had been assaulted. The 20-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to The Tweed Hospital where he remains in a critical condition. Officers from Tweed-Byron Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. As part of their inquiries, police spoke to a 19-year-old man that was known to the man at the crime scene.
He was subsequently arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with reckless grievous bodily harm (DV). The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday, July 5.
By Jo Kennett TWEED POLICE have charged a 47-year-old Tweed Heads man with a range of drug and firearm offences. Police said they searched the man’s Minjungbal Drive property shortly after midnight on Sunday, June 13, and uncovered a home-made pistol, other weapons and drugs. “During the search, police located and seized a .22 calibre home-made pistol, electronic stun device, extendable baton, knife, and a number of prohibited drugs including alprazolam,
cocaine, methylamphetamine, cannabis and gamma-butyrolactone,” police said. “More than $9,000 in cash was also seized which police will allege is the proceeds of crime.” The man was arrested at the premises and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with 15 offences including firearm offences, five counts of possessing prohibited drugs, multiple supplying of prohibited drug charges and dealing with proceeds of crime. The man was refused bail at Lismore Bail Court and was expected to reappear at Tweed Heads Local Court on Tuesday, June 15.

According to Litchfield National Park Rangers, as Ms Dobbin was being taken to a waiting ambulance, she stopped to tell the gathered media how grateful she was to be rescued. I can only say the guys here, and the girls, “I’m eternally grateful to them; all of them have done an absolutely fantastic job,” she said.
