MMPNO Biographies of 2023 Scholarship Recipients Asmerom Eyob Ghirmai

Asmerom is enrolled in Seattle University's Nursing Program and will graduate in August 2023. Asmerom was a part of the Alfie Scholars program which assisted in his transfer from Seattle Central College to Seattle University. His selection was based on his academic performance and desire to make an impact upon graduation. His service to the community is influenced by the lack of health care and treatment for the community where he grew up.

Merhawl Habteabghebreagzeab

Merhawl is enrolled in Seattle University's Nursing Program and will graduate in June 2023. He believes caring for patients is meaningful and joyous These feelings were ignited through his experience of working as a nursing assistance in Malta and clinical rotations at Seattle University. He cannot wait to serve and care for others through justice and faith.

Hawa Daoud Hared

Hawa is enrolled in Seattle University's Nursing Program and will graduate in August 2024. Hawa is very involved with children in her community Her involvement includes the Rainier Day Care and the East African Rainier Association. She has received a number of community awards in recognition of her commitment She will be the first generation immigrant nurse in her family.

Elizabeth Muthoni Johnson

Elizabeth is enrolled in Seattle University's Nursing Program and will graduate in June 2024. The director of the Alfie Scholars Program describes her as a scholar, who is passionate, prepared and energetic. She actively serves her community via her church. Her desire to become a nurse was influenced by the care of a nurse who cared for her after surgery. Her goal is to become a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
