Long-term survivors are persons who have acquired HIV before 1996 or have lived with the disease for over 25 years This means that there are people who might have been born with the virus or acquired it as babies and are now in their 30s and 40s. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 50% of those living with HIV are over 50 years of age.
