By using all the tools we ’ ve learned so far: getting vaccinated and boosted, getting tested and staying home if sick or exposed, wearing a mask in crowds, and keeping our distance. NationalHIVLong-TermSurvivors AwarenessDay
Although millions have died from HIV, millions more remain alive and with this disease; 1 2 million live in the US June 5, 1981 is considered the day AIDS began because it was the date of the first reported case of the disease. In remembrance of this beginning, we will acknowledge those who continue to live with HIV on National HIV Long-Term Survivors Awareness Day (HLTSAD), June 5, 2023.
Tickets available at:
Long-term survivors are persons who have acquired HIV before 1996 or have lived with the disease for over 25 years This means that there are people who might have been born with the virus or acquired it as babies and are now in their 30s and 40s. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 50% of those living with HIV are over 50 years of age. HLTSAD invites us to recommit our love and support to those who continue to face the challenges of living and aging with a disease that complicates their lives and distorts their future --Dr
