Greetings,

Nine years ago, Dr. Mimms envisioned a community concert that utilizes the vibrations of the Strings as a tool for healing the community. Who would have known that this collaboration can now be a tool for the community to say thank you, we appreciate you and we love The Legend, an Icon -- Dr. Maxine Buie Mimms.
As an educator, Maxine has poured life into every corner of community, up and down the I-5 corridor, throughout the state, nationwide and internationally. At 96, it is our priviledge to use this concert as a fundraiser where 100% of the proceeds will go towards supporting her family’s ability to provide the best of care.
“I’ve learned that you shouldn’t go through life with a catcher’s mitt on both hands; you need to be able to throw some things back.”
-Dr Maya Angelou

The theme for this year’s show, Let the Strings Speak AMEN: from hymns to hip hop was selected last year and is a reflection of the lives Dr. Mimms has touched. She relates to every genre of music, and every type of person. A celebration for her brings about a mixture of the most colorful people the world has to offer. It is a privilege to give back.
We are personally asking each of you for your support on this musical journey and celebration of African American culture, but most of all the opportunity for everyone to pour back into Maxine while she is here to smell her flowers.
The artistic director is Ms. Josephine Howell, another community treasure. She will bring together local musicians and entertainers and present to an intergenerational audience a magnificent show at the iconic Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute, a hub where Black brilliance is cultivated.
Tickets are $96.50 for General Admission, along with a limited amount of tickets for elders at $50 and students at $40. The Shoulders On Which We Stand is a simple way to give $100. Community sponsorships range from $500-$5,000. Even though time is short, many of us have called on Maxine in the late night hour and she’s always rises to the occasion. Our team worked hard to make sure we have a space and place for everyone to participate, whether near or far.
Please review our packet and determine what stream of support best represents your level of giving. For questions or concerns, please contact Twanda Hill, 206.248.6072 or Angelina Bundy at 206.900.2170. Parents for Students Success is a 501c3 and our fiscal sponsor for tax deductible donations. Our deadline for submissions is July 14, 2024. We wholeheartedly welcome your generous financial support.
On behalf of Dr. Maxine Mimms
