THE OPPORTUNITY OF A LIFETIME “It’s an opportunity of a lifetime to return to the school where I walked the halls and played on the football field.” - Dr. Isaac Espy

He may not be walking the halls in blue suede shoes, but new Headmaster Dr. Isaac Espy sure can rock a funky tie and channel Elvis. He has a unique style, voice, and way of doing things that have endeared him to TA students and parents alike. On any given day, you’ll find him playing the banjo with the second grade, eating lunch with the fifth grade, jamming with the band at prom, or running a 100mile challenge race. Espy thinks of his return to Tuscaloosa Academy as coming home. He graduated from TA in 1981 and

“always thought about how wonderful it would be to return to TA. It has not been a disappointment.” However, it has been different. Before TA, Espy had been the principal at Northridge High School and Demopolis High School, schools that offered both college preparatory and career-readiness courses. “TA is strictly college preparatory. For the most part, our students are extremely focused on all components of preparing for college,” Espy observes. In addition, he has enjoyed the variety of student age groups provided

by a pre-kindergarten through 12th grade school. “It is a joyful experience to spend time with a self-contained lower school class.” Espy also notes that some of the best parts of TA haven’t changed over time. We still have a “distinct family environment. Big brothers and little sisters attend the same school.” The teachers are still outstanding. Some of the upper school teachers were at the Academy when Espy was a student. “They have gotten even better, if you can believe that,” he says. Article written by Junior Carson Palmer

Eddie Sherwood returns as TA Alumni President I was thrilled to return to Tuscaloosa Academy this past fall. TA is the source of wonderful memories, and my academic preparation and experiences as a student have had a lifetime influence on me in many ways. As a member of the Tuscaloosa Academy Class of 1981, I have been pleased to attend reunions and stay informed of the lives of my classmates through the efforts of the TA Alumni Association. One of my major goals has been to reenergize our efforts to come together as a TA family through our Alumni Association. The first TA Alumni Association president was Eddie Sherwood, Class of 1978. I met with Eddie this past July, and was delighted to know that he still shares the same passion for Tuscaloosa Academy. Our common objectives were simple; we wanted to reconnect our alumni family, keep them informed of important school and alumni news, and open doors for alumni to be a part of the continued growth and success of Tuscaloosa Academy. Eddie accepted the opportunity to return as president of the Alumni Association, and has been instrumental in organizing our efforts to meet the goals we have for this year. As part of our goal of keeping our TA alumni family informed, we are pleased to see the Knightly News reappear in our mailboxes. Thank you Eddie for your leadership and service as Alumni Association president. Go Knights! Article written by Headmaster Dr. Isaac Espy
