or 2) a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent-degree conducted in English in EU/EEA Countries including studies in English language or 3) Studies (min. 20 ECTS) taken in a study program conducted in English at the University of Turku or 4) one of the following language tests In the University of Turku the minimum scores to be approved are: – TOEFL: 575 points from the paper-based test 90 points from the internet-based test – IELTS: the minimum overall band score is 6.5 and no individual scores below 5.5. – The Pearson Test of English Academic, PTE Academic, minimum score 62 – The Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): pass grades A, B or C – The Certificate In Advanced English (CAE): pass grades A, B, or C – The test for the National Certificate of Language Proficiency in English set by the Finnish National Board of Education: an average score of 5. No other language tests or statements of the applicant’s language skills will be accepted. Language tests taken more than two years prior to application deadline will not be accepted. Application procedure: All applicants must complete the application form, and submit the signed form and all the following enclosures: 1. certification of language skills, 2. official and certified copy of the applicant’s diploma in original language – OR, if the degree is not completed until the end of application deadline, a statement of the university that the degree will be completed by the given date (July 30, 2013), and a transcript of studies – OR, in the case the diploma is not yet avai lable, a temporary (provisional) degree cer tificate issued by an institution to a student who has successfully completed all studies included in the degree (the student has gra duated) 3. official and certified copy of the translation in English of the diploma or Diploma supplement, 4. official and certified university transcript in original language and a translation in English

5. motivation letter, included in the application form. Instructions for the motivation letter: The motivation letter plays an important role in the admission procedure. A letter of motivation is a short essay, where you introduce yourself and present your reasons for studying in the BSRM Programme. You are expected to tell: • who you are and why you are interested in this programme • what are the most important skills and knowledge you’ve acquired in your previous studies • how is your educational background relevant and beneficial from the point of view of Baltic Sea Region Studies program • what are your career plans and how you are going to utilize the programme in pursuing them. All the required documents must be received by the UAF by the end of the deadline. Selection procedure Applications are preprocessed by the University Admissions Finland, and reviewed and evaluated by the BSRS board. Admission decisions are made by the Faculty of Humanities, University of Turku. The selection of new students is based on the relevance and success of prior studies, university records and the statement of purpose (motivation letter). Relevance of prior studies and the applicant’s motivation are heavily weighted. All candidates will be notified by the programme of the admission decision on May 17, 2013. Successful applicants will receive a formal letter of acceptance, including detailed further instructions.
