Steve Rose

Assistant Principal - Party Leader for 30 years 1. How many years have you been running school ski trips? I have been a party leader for 29 years taking my first trip in 1983 to Italy. 2. What do you look for when selecting a school ski tour operator? It is imperative that any tour company we use has a proven track record and relevant experience in delivering authentic high quality specialist skiing tours which represent good value. High levels of customer service are also vital, where good organisation and attention to detail is embedded in the company’s everyday practice. Top quality in resort service is critical too, where staff must be well trained, motivated and there to serve our students. All companies must also be ABTA/ATOL bonded. 3. How many ski trips have you taken to our Clubhotels? I have taken 15 trips to Skibound Clubhotels. 4. Why do you stay in our Clubhotels? SkiBound Clubhotels offer superb value for our school ski trips. They are excellently located in top resorts offering high quality accommodation, meals that our students genuinely like and many additional amenities to support our tour programme. Without exception the management and staff interact in a professional but friendly way with both my staff and students which serves to enhance their experience in the mountains/ during their ski tour.

Marcus Tinsley Headmaster - Party Leader for 33 years

1. How many years have you been running school ski trips? I started in the early 80s and my first trip was to Serre Chevalier with a small group of primary kids. So that makes about 32 years of trips.. 2. What do you look for when selecting a school ski tour operator? Value for money for the young people, good quality and consistent safe provision in resort and efficient back up during the organisation. 3. How many ski trips have you taken to our Clubhotels? Too many to count as a coordinator. Personally I’ve travelled to all of your clubhotels in the company many times, either with groups, as a party leader or as an associate. At least one per year for the last 15 years.

5. What sets our Clubhotels apart from our competitors? I never hesitate to book a SkiBound Club hotel simply because I know that they consistently deliver an authentic and complete package which represents the best value on offer. It is highly evident from the levels and quality of service we receive at the Clubhotels, that SkiBound’s management and staff training programme is exceedingly effective. 6. Why would you recommend our Clubhotels to other ski Party Leader? I would unreservedly recommend any of SkiBound’s Clubhotels simply because of the peace of mind it gives you as a party leader. There are ever increasing demands and legal responsibilities placed on staff leading ski tours, so the assurance you gain by choosing a Clubhotel not only takes away so many potential difficulties, but ensures as party leader you can focus on a quality experience for your skiers. 7. What’s your favourite Clubhotel and why? The Curling at Tignes, because it is in an unprecedented location with outstanding skiing, within a very safe village and offers great food and accommodation only minutes from the slopes. The hotel itself caters for all of our students needs and they enjoy a genuine ski atmosphere in safety and comfort.

5. What sets our Clubhotels apart from our competitors? Overall the hotel service consistency is a real strength of the company, Party Leaders can chose any of the resorts (all good) and know they will get a high quality service. 6. Why would you recommend our Clubhotels to other ski Party Leader? For all the reasons mentioned above. 7. What’s your favourite Clubhotel and why? The Skilt for me has to come top because of the location and the service provided. The hotel staff and management cannot be faulted in their professional approach and their service at meals, support to Party Leaders in everything to do with making an excellent trip.

4. Why do you stay in our Clubhotels? The quality is consistent year on year, with development of the service something the company takes seriously. Investment in the hotels is evident and feedback from schools is worked upon wherever reasonable. The locations are good, especially from the Party Leaders point of view in terms of piste side, snow record and access to après-ski. All the resorts used are top locations respected in the ski world for quality provision, safety and service. Management in resort and support for the staff is proactive to strive for the company agreed service levels.

s l e t o h b u l C h c n e r Our F In-house ski fit with the very best kit from Salomon

One of the great benefits of choosing a SkiBound Clubhotel is that we own, maintain and store all of the ski equipment in-house – so you won’t get snowed on going to a ski-fit at our Clubhotels! With a massive investment made each year, we always stock the right sizes and ranges and our qualified Salomon ski technicians are on-hand to ensure that the right equipment is supplied to all abilities (from the nervous novice to the aspiring Olympian). Snowboarders may have to pick up their kit from a local hire shop, but we will ensure that everything is arranged prior to your group arriving in resort. We are delighted to announce that we are currently using Salomon Focus and Mini Kart skis, boots and poles from one of the world’s leading ski equipment manufacturers – Salomon.

Great rooms for the students too!

Don't forget the aprés-ski! Our Clubhotels provide the facilities to offer our groups an exciting array of après-ski activities, and our enthusiastic staff will ensure that the fun continues off the slopes. The range of on-site entertainment options include Wii consoles, juice bars, chill out rooms with giant Connect 4 and Jenga, karaoke and discos plus your Rep will arrange loads of in-house fun for all to enjoy, guaranteeing an easy, stress free and enjoyable trip for pupils and teachers alike. We can pre-book and pre-pay for these après-ski evenings prior to your departure, so you have less to worry about and less to budget for whilst in resort.

Unmissable excursions... Bobsledging in La Plagne - built for Olympic Games in Albertville in 1992 this is a rush your students shouldn't miss. Briançon - Groups staying in Serre Chevalier can visit this ancient city which is Europe's highest at 1326 metres.

All our food is glorious!! Our philosophy is simple; to provide healthy nutritional meals to even the most demanding of pallets. To achieve this, our Clubhotel menus have been carefully designed and developed over numerous years of experience and input from our Party Leaders. Our chefs are also fully conversant with the many special dietary requirements now seen as standard, with most requirements easily catered for. All of our staff understands the importance of various food intolerances and allergies, which are handled with ease and sensitivity. Please feel free to discuss anything with your tour coordinator and if you would like, our chefs and hotel managers will be happy to get in touch directly. With our standard Clubhotel tour package, we typically provide a continental breakfast, hot lunch and a two-course evening meal. However, any of these options can be upgraded to suit your catering requirements.

Afternoon tea and cakes

There’s no better way to build an appetite than a full day skiing in the fresh mountain air. Rather than hit the sweet shops, let us provide a filling option of teas, cakes, biscuits, fruit and soft drinks for your group.

Drinks with meals

Always a popular option with pupils and Party Leaders, we can offer any level of provision of soft drinks for pupils and wine or beer for adults, and build this into your individual quotation – just let us know your requirements. 12 08_13_Clubhotels.indd 5

All inclusive The easiest way to ensure that your group has absolutely everything they need and reduce the requirement for additional pocket money or budgeting. We can arrange for your whole group to receive a drink with meals and two evening entertainments for just £26 per person. For any of these options, please call our knowledgeable team to discuss the possibilities and the applicable costs involved.

Our 'in re sort' star s

General Manager - France

In 1998, with an engineering degree in my back pocket, I decided to head out to Valloire with SkiBound for what turned out to be the best experience of my life… and I haven’t looked back since. A natural passion for everyone to enjoy their winter in the Alps has driven me to dedicate my time to SkiBound and you. Do I have a favourite resort? I suppose that depends on what stage of my life I refer to. The ‘beginner’ in me would say Serre Chevalier – vast open domain, record number of blue-sky skiing days and pistes loaded with snow-laden fir trees. The ‘X-Games wannabe’ would have to say Tignes – big half-pipes, powder fields and an exciting après-ski makes for a thrilling holiday. For the ‘all-rounder’, La Plagne is hard to beat – with something for everyone, be it gentle tree-lined runs or the natural network of gullied runs. With the hotel Turquoise sandwiched between 2 runs, I will become the legend that managed to ski through the hotel front door and out the back picking up a 'chocolat chaud' on the way!

Chris Powell

Hotels & Operations Manager - France

In the mid 90’s I went on a skiing holiday and thought I quite like this, the next year I went on 2, the following I went on 3 and before I knew it I had resigned from my career in the UK, put my house up for rent and decided to do a season – and 11 years later I’m still here! Over the 11 years I have worked in numerous ski stations from Crest Voland (small and very French) to Courchevel (large and definitely not French); my favourite ski domain has to be Serre Chevalier due to the 4 very different ski areas that merge to produce some of the best terrain in the Alps, catering for both beginners and experts, with a great blue sky day record to boot. The Frejus Telecabine, which is across the road from SkiBound’s own Clubhotel Frejus, whisks you off to the top of the Villeneuve ski domain where you can easily access all areas. Following Serre Chevalier has to be Alpe d’Huez, again another great ski area but with fantastic après-ski for all ages including ice skating, high ropes, outdoor swimming pool and our own in-house discotheque at the Vallée Blanche. Did I make the right decision all those years ago? I live in one of the most beautiful parts of the world, sharing my passion for mountain activities with the team and guests each year and I get to see all our guests from beginners to experts having a wonderful time either on the slopes or in one of our Clubhotels after a full day of fun on the mountain – so the answer to the question has to be yes, especially as I met my wife here who incidentally has worked for SkiBound for over 18 years!!

In a nutshell • Centrally located in Alpe d’Huez and only a short walk to the lift • In-house disco for those all-important dance-offs •4 2 rooms, accommodating up to 160 guests Kids! Don’t forget to try one of our non-alcoholic cocktails.

A cut above the rest We think our Clubhotels are great… and so do our Party Leaders. The scores on the doors are: • The Vallée Blanche scored an overall average of 96% • The food served scored an average of 98% • The hotel service scored an average of 96% • The hotel staff scored an average of 99% • The hotel management scored an average of 99%

Prime location The Vallée Blanche is an extremely popular choice with our groups and it’s easy to see why; centrally located in Alpe d’Huez so easy to get to the shops and après-ski, but still only an amble away from the lifts! In no time at all, the students will be whisked straight up to the main ski school meeting area, where their ski instructors and 250km of pristine terrain await!

The fun continues Après-ski is simply what Alpe d’Huez does best. With an awesome selection of activities only a mere snowballs throw from your snow-dusted doorstep there’s never a dull moment in town. Cafes, shops, ice-rink, outdoor swimming pool (heated!) and an all singing and dancing sports centre provide plenty of good times long into the evening. Looking for something a little more relaxing? If so, kick back at the hotel, play some pool and enjoy a rewarding hot chocolate – you deserve it!

Meet the locals If you’re looking for the perfect resort to take your school group, then look no further than Alpe d’Huez. After making your way up the legendry 21 hair-pin bends you will be greeted by “L’ile au soleil”. The combination of sun and snow is what attracted me to this resort 5 seasons ago. I’ve been here ever since and now call this place home. The Clubhotel Vallée Blanche is the perfect base for your school group, only a short walk to the ski lifts and resort centre. Relax by the log fire and enjoy the stunning panoramic views across the Oisan Valley. After the sun goes down the fun continues, as our in-house cinema and disco, complete with neon lights and glow sticks, will keep the students entertained until it’s time to call it a night.

• In the heart of Alpe d’Huez and opposite the main bucket lift • Unbeatable après-ski activities to keep you entertained • 38 rooms, accommodating up to 130 guests Kids! Don’t forget to try one of our milkshakes

A cut above the rest We think our Clubhotels are great… and so do our Party Leaders. The scores on the doors are: • The Belle Aurore scored an overall average of 96% • The food served scored an average of 98% • The hotel service scored an average of 96% • The hotel staff scored an average of 99% • The hotel management scored an average of 99%

Prime location The impressive Clubhotel Belle Aurore is located in the heart of Alpe d’Huez, just 200m from the resort centre and opposite the main bucket lift. The hotel’s fantastic location means you're in the hustle and bustle of the resort, so everything’s within walking distance. So, grab your skis, goggles and that last minute croissant, walk 50metres from the front door and be effortlessly whisked up to the sunny slopes of Alpe d'Huez.

The fun continues With more après-ski options than you can wave a bobble hat at, the fun will continue well into the evening. The Belle Aurore has a comfortable lounge area, with flatscreen TV and DVD player, a large restaurant and the infamous orange bar area that can be used for quiz, karaoke and bingo (one for the teachers) evenings. If you still have plenty of energy to burn, the resort centre is only a 5 minutes’ walk away where you’ll find an iceskating rink, sports centre and an outdoor heated pool.

Meet the locals Alpe d’Huez provides fantastic skiing for all abilities and is also home to the 16km Sarenne, the longest black run in Europe. In a nutshell • In the heart of the resort, on the slopes • L arge restaurant and bar for hosting après-ski activities • 37 rooms, accommodating up to 139 guests Kids! Don’t forget to challenge your teachers at the Skilt's pool tournament.

A cut above the rest We think our Clubhotels are great… and so do our Party Leaders. The scores on the doors are: • The Skilt scored an overall average of 95% • The food served scored an average of 96% • The hotel service scored an average of 97% • The hotel staff scored an average of 99% • The hotel management scored an average of 100%

Prime location It’s all about location, location, location and the Skilt wins hands-down! This slope-side hotel overlooks its own sun terrace and bar, with the ski school meeting point quite literally a few steps from the terrace, so the students can just roll out of bed and practically be on the slopes. The convenience and location of this sun terrace makes it the ideal meeting point after a day on the slopes – where everyone likes to claim they landed the perfect 360 of the day!

The fun continues Quiz nights, DVD nights, pool competitions, karaoke and disco evenings are just a few of the in-house activities available at the Skilt. We actively encourage in-house challenges between our staff, the teachers and students. The resort itself has a popular sports complex with an indoor heated pool - great after a hard day on the slopes.

Roll out of bed and straight onto the slopes

Meet the locals After a few seasons in different resorts I came to Les Menuires as a Ski Rep in 1994 and have been here ever since! (I must hold the record for longest ever gap year). I have been a manager here for twelve years and each winter my family makes the Skilt our home. All our wonderful SkiBound hotel staff become an extended part of our family and welcoming so many returning guests to the Skilt each winter, who have seen my children grow, is a great part of the job. It’s easy to see why the Skilt is so popular - Ski school meets 10 metres from the door, a high speed chair and gondola lift both within 50 metres of the hotel and a warm friendly welcome from all our staff. It’s almost too easy to run a successful ski tour at the Skilt.

Prime location Clinging to the steep valley sides like a confident mountain goat, all of the public areas and most of the bedrooms have stunning views across the valley to the Cime de Carron ski area. With the slopes so close it’s almost possible to ski right up to the back door and straight into the bar! Once the basic skills have been mastered, your ski instructors are happy to meet you outside the hotels ski storage room – now that’s doorstep service!

The fun continues The large restaurant and bar is complete with flatscreen TV and our professional disco and karaoke equipment is ideal for hosting boogie nights and unearthing wannabe X Factor stars. The Piolet also boasts that all important games room, complete with a pool table, table football and arcade games. The resort has a popular sports centre, but if you fancy a bit of ten-pin bowling then head up to the nearby resort of Val Thoren.

Meet the locals Les Menuires has re-invented itself into one of the most practical and functional value for money resorts in the world, and this is what attracted me to the resort in 1994. The resorts traditional emphasis on slope-side convenience just makes everything so easy and practical. And this is no exception with the Hotel Piolet, which offers that door step skiing we crave so much when our legs are shot! The Hotel provides everything you could need with a large restaurant, bar and games room all on the first floor. The large windows provide an inspiring view of Cime de Caron and La Masse to get you started every morning. This spectacular place has become our family home and my wife tells me the Piolet is extra special because we met here 15 years ago.

As the nearest lift is only 300 yards away, you’ll soon be at the top of the mountain, ready to hurtle down the slopes quicker than Usain Bolt can run the 100m. Thanks to its central location, the Curling is surrounded by all the local amenities and après-ski activities needed for a successful and memorable school ski trip to France.

Prime location Say goodbye to transportation and hello to wonderful doorstep skiing! For groups skiing Serre Chevalier, you can’t get a better location than the Frejus. This extremely popular Clubhotel is only 50 metres from the main telecabine, which is the quickest way into the heart of the extensive ski area, so the students will be up the mountain and skiing before you’ve had time to finish your morning coffee. With the Frejus situated in the quintessential village of Villeneuve, there’s plenty to do after a full day on the slopes.

The fun continues Evening activities can be as rock & roll or relaxed as you wish. The Frejus has a very welcoming lounge and bar area, complete with TV and a mesmerising open log fire. The in-house disco is always a popular choice with our groups, providing the perfect setting for those all-important dance-offs! Alternatively, head for the dizzy heights of nearby Briançon! Europe’s highest city is stepped in history and offers a superb choice of winter activities and attractions.

Meet the locals If you’re reading this then let me help you choose where your school group should stay. After joining the company many years ago (for just 1 season) and having worked through many Summers & Winters my dislike of sand led me to settle in the mountains. After just 1 season in Serre Chevalier it was in my heart & I was hooked, and the Hotel Frejus is where I have made my home since 2005. The Hotel is known for its warm welcome and its friendly atmosphere, with fun après-ski to match. You’ll find us just a couple of minutes’ walk from the ski school meeting point, the nursery slopes & lifts giving you access to 250km of sun drenched pistes stunning views! Serre Chevalier is the best kept secret in the French Alpes… See you next year.

Of course, everyone needs a helping hand at first and the ski schools of South Ridge ensure even the wobbliest of legs get the chance to gain in stature. Once you start to grow in confidence the fat award-winning cruisers of Lollapalooza and Excalibur will be calling. However, if you’re looking for a challenge then look no further than White Heat. Regarded as the longest, steepest, widest lift-serviced trail in the east, White Heat is one of Sunday River’s toughest and a must for all the cheeky experts in your party. Ice skating, tube parks, discos, festivals and the legend of Eddy the Yeti ensure the Sunday River service continues long after the last lift closes. The beginners in your group maybe pleased to hear that the rather extreme-sounding Juggernaut run is just for them although, as it’s over 6 miles long, they may not wish to tackle it in entirety on their first day. Most greens start from one of six connected peaks which gives everyone the chance to enjoy those all-important views. As newbies develop they’ll find plenty of swooping intermediate cruisers and mellow curves to fine tune their craft however, the likes of Lower Ovation, Superstar and Killington Peak maybe out of their reach at this early stage. From double-diamond drops to double-black diamond moguls, Bear Mountain is where the big boys like to let it all hang out. Finally, if you’re all about the kicks and the flicks then Timberline and Easy Street snowboard parks have the lot, including a 425ft long super pipe – awesome! Après-ski is simply what Killington does best with ice-skating, discos, bowling, cinemas and fantastic fireworks providing plenty of entertainment after dark. Of course, you’ll find pizzerias in abundance and if you’ve got a sweet tooth then just remember that you’re in Vermont, the spiritual home of maple syrup.

When you have the Milky Way at your disposal the desire to explore can sometimes be too much to bear. However, before you venture off into the wide blue yonder make sure you make the most of Clavière’s slopes first. From sunny nursery slopes to skiing options above 2000metres, there’s plenty of fun to be had right on your snow-covered doorstep. This is a truly hospitable and friendly skiing village nestled between Turin and the French border and if the prospect of taking a school group into the unknown is slightly daunting then rest assured that you’ll find the welcome as warm and generous as the local cuisine. Yes, the Milky Way ski area promises over 400kms of skiable terrain however, with plenty of snow-sure slopes closer to home staying local can sometimes mean making the most of your day. The nursery slopes on the outskirts of the village promise sunshine and forgiving descents and once you grow in stature you'll find an innumerate amount of interlinking blues and reds providing the perfect pistes for progression. Of course, if you feel the need for speed then the Milky Way is no more than a chairlift away but rest assured, options in resort need to be tried and tested prior to exploring further afield.

Traditional and friendly après ski in the form of pizzerias, bars, ice-skating and bowling all add up to a whole heap of loveliness and if you’re looking for a livelier scene then skip over the border to France where Montgenèvre is waiting to put a spring in your snow boot.

As you’d expect from a typical Italian ski resort, traditions are everything and as Bardonecchia was the host of the first ever Italian Ski Championships, you won’t get more old-school than here. First-class skiing, a genuinely warm welcome and hot chocolate that you can stand your spoon up in; what more could you ask for? You’ll find over 100kms of skiable terrain, contained within three snow-sure areas, which means that everyone from spaghetti legs to meat balls will find the right gradient to suit their level. Under the eagle eyes of English-speaking instructors, newbies can access the lower slopes of Campo Smith before progressing onwards and upwards to the reds and blues of Melezet. Colomion promises a few challenges for the advanced ladies and gentlemen as the legendary Fisi 50 World Cup red run is waiting to make their acquaintance. If you fancy giving your knees a good-old jarring then the entrances to the upper runs of Cresta Seba and Pra Magnan are well-known for their lumps and bumps. All runs lead back to base station level and, when snow conditions are in your favour, skiing the full 1450 vertical is just the best way to cap the day.

If you’re looking for quintessential Austria, where snow falls in abundance and strudels appear to grow on trees, then look no further than Oberlungau as this resort is as authentic as they come. Offering a wide range of accommodation and activities, it’s easy to see why school groups can’t stay away. All levels are catered for and thanks to a thoroughly modern lift system you’ll be able to take advantage of not one but three ski areas: Katschberg, Grosseck-Speiereck and Fanningberg. After excellent ski tutelage, wobbly legs will quickly develop confidence and in no time at all they’ll be leaving the nursery slopes and heading for the uncrowded and forgiving pistes of Fanningberg. The wide open reds of Katschberg present intermediates with more of a gradient and taking the 6km A1 all the way down to St Margarethen is quite possibly the best ride in the Alps. Thanks to an awesome new gondola, the Grosseck-Speiereck top station is achievable in less than 10 minutes and if you change your mind about skiing down, you can always get a return ticket. Après-ski is split between Tamsweg, St Michael and Mauterndorf so depending on what your group are into: bowling, swimming, ice-skating and snow-tubing, you’ll be able to mix and match to suit your mood. With a fun and varied off-slope entertainment programme already in place for school groups, Oberlungau really does scream: ‘what are you waiting for?’

Salzburge r Sportwe lt

Lying within Austria’s largest ski area, the Salzburger Sportwelt provides more bells and whistles than the Von Trapp family and if you’re looking to take your group to an authentic Austrian ski resort then you’ll be pleased to know that you’ll find ten to choose from.

The facts...

With a combined piste of 345kms and brand-spanking new lifts, the Salzburger Sportwelt ticks all of the right boxes. No matter what your level of expertise, you’ll find an enormous amount of choice and with loads of options for beginners, there’s no finer area to develop from snowploughs to parallels. School groups are pretty much the main occupants here so don’t fret about getting in the way of any aspiring speed demons. Those making their first tracks tend to start in either Zauchensee, Flachau or Radstadt (depending on where they are staying) before progressing to Flachauwinkl. Intermediates and quick learners will undoubtedly thrive in Sportwelt as an abundance of reds and blues make up the lion’s share of well-groomed terrain. The more advanced runs of Zauchensee will probably call out to the experts and when they hear they’re regularly used on the World Cup circuit stand back for the inevitable rush for the lifts. Thankfully, queuing is almost extinct here so there’s no need to panic and with four bodacious terrain parks for the boarders, everything’s coming up Sportwelt. Bowling, swimming, ice-skating, tobogganing and making shapes on the dance floor provide the order of the après-ski and if you fancy an evening of culture then the scintillating city of Salzburg is just a couple of hours away.

t... a y a t S The Snow House, Zauchensee Distance to the slopes: 200m from the lifts The Snow House is located in the centre of Zauchensee, which is one of the most snow sure resorts in Austria. The lifts are literally a few minutes’ walk from the front door so groups will certainly be able to maximise their time on the slopes. The Snow House has a great array of in-house facilities to keep the students entertained. For more accommodation options in Salzburger Sportwelt, please check out our website:
