Work Bio:
I am an architectural designer with 5+ years of experience currently seeking a job in California or Oregon.
I attended university at the University of Massachusetts - Amherst, upon graduating I moved to Boston, MA to work at a small architecture firm in Ipswich, Massachusetts. During that time I worked on over 75 projects of varying sizes and scope. My next endeavor was to become a licensed architect, so I returned to school to obtain my master’s degree in Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology to pursue an accredited degree. While in graduate school I worked under William Maclay, a leader in New England for Net Zero Design. Once I graduated, I sought out architecture firms that specialized in sustainable design - this landed me at Farr Associates in Chicago, IL.
I have completed my AXP hours and several of the ARE Exams.
Life Bio:
I grew up in Vermont in a family of laborers, where I spent my childhood and adolescence on construction sites both as a visitor and as a worker. I spent nearly a decade working menial jobs in a kitchen and as a house painter, fostering my appreciation for the trades as I slowly transitioned professionally into an architectural office. I put myself through undergraduate and graduate school becoming the first person in my family to receive a degree in higher education. During my time at university, I was fortunate enough to study abroad in Florence, Italy, undertake marble sculpting, and travel Europe.
My name is Tucker Touchette, and this is a body of work created during my time spent in academic and professional training to become an Architect.

THE PROJECT BRIEF WAS TO CREATE A RESIDENTIAL TOWER WITH ADDITIONAL AMENITIES IN UPTOWN, CHICAGO. UNITS IN THE DOMINO TOWERS ARE SPACED APART TO MAXIMIZE NATURAL VENTILATION AND DAYLIGHT. THE ZONE BETWEEN PRIVATE AND PUBLIC IS MEDIATED BY SEMI-PRIVATE BALCONIES, REPLICATING STOOP CONDITIONS FOUND ON A TYPICAL RESIDENTIAL STREET. THE TOWERS ANTICIPATE FUTURE COMMUNITIES BY EMPHASIZING HIGH-DENSITY NEIGHBORLINESS AND ACCESS TO, PUBLIC, OUTDOOR SPACE.

THE TWO BUILDINGS ARE FREE TO STRONGLY RESPOND TO THE STREET FRONTAGE, AND THE SPACE BETWEEN THEM OPENS ALLOWING FOR A PUBLIC PLAZA AND MARKETPLACE. PUBLIC SPACE AT STREET LEVEL IS MAXIMIZED BY REDUCING THE FOOTPRINT OF RESIDENTIAL LOBBIES BY MOVING RESIDENTIAL SERVICES TO UPPER FLOORS.







ALL UNITS IN THE SOUTH TOWER ARE ADA COMPLIANT. THE TOWER ALSO PROVIDES ADDITIONAL BENEFITS TO MOBILITY IMPAIRED RESIDENTS, SUCH AS FEWER STAIRS AND MORE GENEROUS RESIDENTIAL LOBBIES.

THE GOAL OF THIS STUDIO WAS TO DESIGN A 170,000 SF MARKETPLACE IN CHICAGO’S CHINATOWN ON A SITE LOCATED UNDER THE CTA REDLINE. THE CONCEPT BEGAN BY DEVELOPING A DESIGN THAT IS REPRESENTATIVE OF EQUITY ON RANGING SCALES, THE MOST PROMINENT BEING BALANCE AND PROGRAMMATIC ACCESS. THE MARKET ACTS AS A GATEWAY TO THE CHINATOWN NEIGHBORHOOD, WHICH ENGORCES EQUITY AS A DRIVER FOR DESIGN.

THIS IS AN EXPERIMENTAL SOCIETY TO TEST THE FUNDAMENTALS AND STRUCTURE OF THE EDUCATION SYSTEM ACROSS A 100 YEAR TIMELINE. THE CONSTELLATION CAMPUS SERVES AS A LEARNING ESTABLISHMENT FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF AGRICULTURAL, ENVIRONMENTAL, ECOLOGICAL, AND SOCIAL SCIENCES IN THE CONTEXT OF POSTANTHROPOGENIC HUMAN LIFE. MIAMI IS THE PRIME LOCATION FOR THIS PROJECT DUE TO ITS CONVERGENCE OF IMMIGRANTS THEREFORE EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE GIVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EDUCATE THE GLOBAL MASSES.

CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY IS DIVIDED ALONG NEIGHBORHOOD BOUNDARIES, FUTURE DISTINCTIONS WILL BE NEIGHBORHOODS SEPARATED BY INTEREST. I PURSUED THIS INTEREST BY DEVELOPING A CLASS PERTAINING TO PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE. ARC. 482 WAS A CAPSTONE ARCHITECTURE STRUCTURES CLASS WITH AN EMPHASIS ON WOOD DESIGN. IN THIS COURSE STUDENTS WERE REQUIRED TO DESIGN A COLUMN, BEAM, AND SURFACE TO BE ELEGANT AND STRUCTURALLY EFFICIENT. IN THIS DESIGN, THE BEAM AND COLUMN ARE DESIGNED AS A CABLE-STAY SYSTEM TO PREVENT BUCKLING AND DEFLECTION. IN THE COLUMN, THE CABLE-STAY SYSTEM ALLOWS FOR AN 18 KIP LOAD ON A 4X4 TAPERED WOOD COLUMN. THIS SYSTEM CONTAINS A CONNECTION WITH 13 ELEMENTS COMING TO ONE POINT, 10 ELEMENTS COMING TO ONE POINT, AND 9 ELEMENTS COMING TO ONE POINT, CREATING A COMPLICATED AND DELICATE SYSTEM OF DETAILING.

THE COMPETITION WAS TO CREATE A BIOPHILIC RESIDENCE IN AN URBAN CONTEXTTHERE WAS NO PROGRAM OR SCOPE REQUIREMENTS. MY TEAM CREATED A MODULAR COMPLEX THAT COULD BE BUILT UP OVER TIME. CONNECTED TO A HISTORIC CHURCH WITH THE GOAL OF REVITALIZING THE CHICAGO BRONZEVILLE NEIGHBORHOOD, THE INTENTION OF THIS PROJECT WAS TO GIVE A PLAZA, PARK AND EVENT SPACE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY. THERE IS NO INTERIOR HALLWAY, SO EACH RESIDENCE IS REACHED THROUGH THE COURTYARD THROUGH A SERIES OF TRAILS IN THE GARDEN.

THE HOUSE, PREVIOUSLY A 2-BEDROOM, 1-BATH AND UNFINISHED BASEMENT, IS NOW A 2-UNIT APARTMENT WITH 1-BEDROOM 1-BATH ON THE LOWER LEVEL AND 2-BEDROOM 2-BATH ON THE FIRST FLOOR LEVEL. ORIGINALLY INTENDING TO RENT BOTH UNITS, MR. STARK AND HIS PARTNER ENJOYED THE NEWLY RENOVATED SO CONSIDERABLY THAT THEY CHOSE TO TAKE UP RESIDENCE.
