The Tuart Place Library The Tuart Place lending library is full of great books, jigsaw puzzles and games. Feel free to browse our selection and borrow items. Many thanks to Rosyln Hackett for sorting and reorganising the library in July this year. It is greatly appreciated!
In April 2018, I attended a very interesting and productive writing workshop with Carmel Ahern at Tuart Place. It was a thought provoking session which made me think about the things around me - like images, sounds and smells which normally I would take for granted. There is a story in most things that happen in our day to day lives. I felt very relaxed and comfortable being part of Carmel’s workshop, and there was no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way for us to express ourselves. By jotting down our own thoughts throughout the session, surprising results were revealed about how thoughts can affect our decisions and actions. All decisions and actions begin with a thought. The great group of people who participated seemed to enjoy the morning’s session. I am looking forward to the next excellent writing workshop with Carmel Ahern at Tuart Place.

New research on child migration
Professor Gordon Lynch from the University of Kent (UK) has just begun a new research project looking at the history of post-war child migration to Australia. Gordon was one of the expert witnesses for the recent report on child migration by the UK Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) and provided evidence from historical archives about what the UK Government did and should have known about the failings of the migration schemes. His project will involve using archives in both the UK and Australia to examine why child migration started again after the Second World War at a time when new standards of child-care had been clearly set out in the 1946 Curtis Report, and why these standards were never properly introduced later on. For further information about the project, please contact Gordon at g.lynch@kent.ac.uk
