WHAT ABOUT US?

Care leavers who keenly awaited the return of Labor in WA want the McGowan Government to ‘Make Redress Right’ through a formal apology and restoration of the original payment levels promised under the Redress WA scheme

What about us? is the question survivors of the Redress

WA scheme are asking our State Government. Ron Love, Chairperson of Forgotten Australians Coming Together (FACT Inc), says that while care leavers appreciate the new national redress scheme, half the survivors of Redress WA are still left out. This group of people won’t be eligible for the scheme because their childhood abuse did not include sexual abuse. “This is third time unlucky for a group of people who were not only abused as children, they were re-abused by a state redress scheme, and now they’re left out of the national scheme”, Ron said. Ron and others seeking justice for Redress WA survivors are calling on the McGowan Government to honour the support they pledged for victims of this scheme nine years ago. Members of the Make Redress Right committee are continuing to convey their message in the strongest of terms. Continued on page 2
