In the summer of 2015, Darmstadt, like many other European cities, was faced with the “Summer of Migration.” As of 2016, more than 3,500 refugees lived in Darmstadt, of which 1,769 were in the asylum process. Darmstadt, a city with a housing shortage, was confronted with the acute challenge of housing these new arrivals. The doctoral research colloquium of the Graduate School of Urban Studies (UrbanGRAD) took on the challenge of producing actual and up-to-date research on refugee housing in Darmstadt.
This publication is based on researches and posters from the Exhibition “Architecture of Arrival” that took place at TU Darmstadt, Germany, on 7th June 2017.
