CMH invented heli-skiing In 1959, our founder, Hans Gmoser, incorporated CMH and began to stake out 11 distinct areas over 3 million acres of snow paradise. Three million acres is immense. That’s one-third the size of Switzerland, filled with deep powder, virgin territory and euphoric runs. Hans’ goal was to share the majesty of the natural beauty and thrill of the experience. By 1965, he’d taken his first group on a Heli-Skiing tour. We still feel extreme passion for exploring jaw-dropping natural beauty with people from all over the world – and finding lifelong friends along the way. For us, safety reigns above all. We’re among the most experienced in the world, using the latest proven safety practices and technology.

TRUE SKI IMMERSIONS Special accommodation for those who practice heli-skiing in search of virgin snow

CMH lodges are located in remote areas of British Columbia amidst incredible amounts of powder snow and varied terrain. Accommodation in the lodges can last three, five or seven days, with daily helicopter departures - each heading to different peaks. In addition to unforgettable descents and meals, the lodge facilities allow moments of relaxation and include options such as massages and spa treatments, hot tubs and drinks in front of the fireplace. It is a true immersion for the lovers of the sport.

Goggles A Skiing Necessity Whether you are a first-timer or seasoned skier, using the right equipment and accessories is critical for good practice and safety.

Triple-layer foam protection for a comfortable fit Air-vent technology optimizes air flow and reduces fogging

Unrivaled peripheral vision Photochromatic lens automatically adjusts to current light conditions

18

Skiing gear must be functional and keep a skier comfortable and safe. In the mountains, sunlight is often intense and its harsh reflection against snow can cause discomfort to the eyes or even temporarily distort vision. Ski goggles are essential because they guarantee descents with good visibility, protection against wind, and protection against solar UV rays. A pioneer in lenses since 1985, Revo produces innovative and high performance goggles originally used by the US Ski Team. The brand gained fame when creating its first sunglasses using technology developed by NASA to protect its satellites from UV light. Besides being stylish, the Revo goggle adapts to the face with 3 layers of foam, contains an air-vent system that prevents fogging, and has adjustable straps featuring silicon grips that hold snugly to the head or helmet. Revo goggle lenses offer unrivaled peripheral vision and quickly adapt to any light conditions, selectively filtering colors and transmission of light to provide the ideal view for every moment on the slopes. Digital Polarized Plus™ technology allows you to read digital screens, signs, and watches clearly. With a product that literally fits your environment and your needs, the skiing experience will be better, safer, and more comfortable.

After settling down and resting, the fun continues with strategic climbs in a sustainable gondola, a true example of renewable energy, which leads to the main resort’s slopes. There are descents for all levels, but some are specialized; Galloping Goose is the best for beginners, See Forever is ideal for intermediates, and The Plunge is the expert’s’ favorite.

For activities off the beaten track, there is a large and exciting list; ice skating, snowmobile rides, snow biking, sledding, snowshoe hiking, winter fishing, ice climbing, Nordic skiing among others. Advanced skiers can enjoy the heliski excursions, with Helitrax, Colorado’s premier heli-ski outfit.

Say goodbye to the mountain and hello to après-ski time. The choices are endless, with gourmet on-mountain restaurants such as Allred’s, with a select wine list and the Alpino Vino, at almost 12,000 feet with sweeping views. If a more casual outing is your preferred choice, try the Italian Altezza, or the city brewery Smugglers Brewpub.

After the day’s end, skiers often relax in the hot jacuzzis or with massages and spa treatments - especially at The Peaks Hotel - or enjoy quiet walks and shopping in the city center. Dining options are varied and include the French La Marmotteé, the Italian Rustico Ristorante and Telluride Bistro, the Chop House steakhouse and the gastro pub Black Iron Kitchen and Bar.

26

UNDERSTANDING SNOW Heli-ski is an off-piste experience that takes skiers to the backcountry, outside of the ski area boundaries, allowing more advanced skiers to safely drop onto untouched virgin snow in a different and fun way: by boarding a helicopter designed for these adventures – Telluride’s Helitrax offers over 200 square miles of terrain.

HIGH SUSTAINABILITY The gondola connecting the town of Telluride to the alpine Mountain Village is the only one in North America built especially to help improve air quality and the environment. It transports about 2.5 million passengers a year, sparing the emission of about 45,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide during the same period!

SEASON NEWS! This season Telluride continues with a multimillion dollar investment in upgrades aimed at snowmaking and reducing carbon emissions. For beginners, there will be a new 15-acre terrain-based teaching facility.

27

The

Park City experience beyond the ski Great restaurants, lovely shops, art galleries, and lots of history to be shared For more than 50 years, during a period in the nineteenth century where it was usual to race to the west, entire cities would be created overnight. Park City rose from the United States’ silver boom, through decades of glamor and glory. The city had more than 10,000 inhabitants and the main street’s saloons increased to more than 30. When the metal fever ended, the gracious city was frozen in time. The first lift was inaugurated in 1963 at its snow-capped mountains full of exceptional quality, helping the city resurface back to all its glory - soon after, Park City gained the title of best ski resort in the state of Utah. The adjacent resort, Deer Valley, is also easily accessible and is known for its impeccable services. The heart of the city continues to be the historic main street, which can be strolled through in just thirty minutes. It’s best to enjoy a slow walk, passing by old constructions of the Old West era, soaking in their colorful facades, and visiting its charming shops, cafes and excellent restaurants.

28

29

OLD WESTERN Wooden infrastructures, live music and rustic flavors accompany the extensive beer and drink menus. Experience a real trip back to the western days of the region. At Spur, the western-chic climate comes complete with fireplaces and elegant leather furniture; The High West Distillery is the oldest distillery in the city and is ski-in; and No Name Saloon which is the oldest in town.

FILM FESTIVAL Each year, at the end of January, the Sundance Film Festival is held. Created by actor Robert Redford, it’s one of the most important independent film festivals in the world. About 50,000 people attend local theaters every year to volunteer. The Egyptian Theater is where the real magic happens.

SHOPPING Park City’s downtown area is home to a variety of stores, including art collections and handcrafted furniture, antiques, bookstores, fashion and sport boutiques. The Tanger Outlet Center, for example, gathers more than 50 stores such as Calvin Klein and Ralph Lawuren. creative_commons: Raffi Asdourian

Aspen Mountain 38

It was here that Aspen’s history began nearly 80 years ago, when one of Colorado’s most famous and beloved resorts rose and, along with it, a slew of award-winning hotels, restaurants, shops and cafes. At 11,212 ft above sea level, the iconic Ajax, as it is also known, is a mountain that arouses the interest of the more experienced skiers. Its terrain has challenging and steeper descents with intermediate and advanced runways. In all, they add up to 76, in addition to the eight lifts, including the Silver Queen Gondola. From here, it is also very easy to get to the surrounding mountains, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk and Snowmass, approximately 15 minutes from each other, which are connected by an efficient system of skier shuttles, therefore helping the circulation through the region while ensuring a practical and easy ride.

Buttermilk The beauty of Buttermilk emanates from its dual personalities. On the one hand, it is a very sought after mountain for beginners, with long slopes, very little inclinations and beautiful views of Pyramid Peak. On the other, it is paradise for snowboarders and freestyle skiers, the so-called free-riders. It’s no surprise why fans have watched the Winter X Games or Red Bull Double Pipe competitions around the slopes and the so-called SuperPipe, the main seven-foot ramp, for over ten years. There are also two terrain parks and more than 100 attractions for those who want to practice their maneuvers and tricks. But the mountain is also a must-see for families and the little ones, who have fun at The Hideout, a recreation complex for kids up to twelve!

TRAINING MANEUVERS Buttermilk offers several parks with training obstacles, including its famous 7-meter superpipe, tracks and obstacles used during the X Games. S3 Park, for example, is used exclusively by beginners and intermediates who can jump up to almost eight meters. X Park includes 25 obstacles for advanced skiers - also used in the winter games. Aspen Highlands Known for having a back bowl with one of the most challenging off-piste terrain in all of North America, Aspen Highlands is the darling mountain of locals, just five minutes from downtown. Although composed of more than 80% intermediate and advanced descents, it also allows children and beginners to take their first steps in the snow guided by school teachers. This mountain avoids the spotlight, which means there are 118 large, tranquil uncrowded slopes scattered over 1040 acres of skiable terrain. Hiking the ridge to Highland Bowl is also recommended for one of the best rides of your life. Aspen Highlands is also home to the busiest restaurant of all the mountains, Cloud 9. With direct access from the slopes, it has a kitchen specializing in European cuisine such as fondues and raclettes. During the day, music is played and skiers dance around the tables surrounded by breathtaking views of the Maroon Bells peaks!

CLIMBING BACK BOWL “Conquer your descents,” this is the philosophy of skiers who, in addition to using the lift, climb to the top of the Highlands back bowl with their ski or snowboard boots, carrying their equipment. The program is a local passion and is guaranteed worth the effort because the descent is a lifetime experience. The hike can last from 25 minutes to an hour, and of course, the views are part of the reward. It’s no wonder Vail is one of the most famous ski resorts in the U.S. – not only does it feature perpetually snow-covered terrain drifting across 5,289 acres of skiable area with six incredible back bowls, Vail’s distinct neighborhoods are filled with delectable culinary offerings and a vibrant nightlife. This perfect amalgam of playground-for-outdoor-enthusiasts-meets-urban-dweller-heaven is also home to Olympic gold medalist and four-time World Cup champion for alpine skiing Lindsey Vonn – a woman who knows a thing or two about ideal ski conditions. Vail’s back bowls and Blue Sky Basin are legendary over the world. Spanning roughly 3,000 acres, these vast, open slopes fall off Vail’s backside and funnel into some of the most scenic drainages in ski country. Hitting the bowls on a powder day is a bucket list item for any serious skier or snowboarder.

Mammoth Set within the Sierra Nevada mountains at an altitude of 8,000 feet, Mammoth has long been a favorite among Californians for its long season, even in years with little snowfall. This year, the mountain plans to stay open all the way through August. What? Yes! Which means you can catch freshies in the morning and waves in Malibu in the afternoon or head north for a quaff of that Napa wine. The mountain itself boasts 3,500 acres of skiable terrain including parks, cross country and off-piste. California’s obsession with food and wine mean incredible dining options and this close to Hollywood, you know there’s going to be some sick shopping. Powder + sunshine + Cali vibes = an epic ski vacation. It is also the only resort in North America to offer three different sized half-pipes and, an extended winter season means maybe this year you’ll get to try summer skiing… if that’s not a thing, it is now.

Squaw Valley With 6,000 acres of skiable terrain, Squaw has an excellent mix of easy slopes, unmarked trails, challenging bowls and intense steeps, and as the trademarked Spring Skiing Capital, you can enjoy all these options well past winter. So whether you’re looking for thrills or prefer to kick it in a hot tub with your goggles and sunscreen, Squaw has no shortage of California steeze (that’s stylin’ easy for all you looking to hone your native slang).
