James Karam, his encounter with swimming did not happen until freshman year in high school, yet it was as if he was made for it. "When I'm racing , I just think about winning but when in practice , I think about getting to the set and just try my hardest." Freshman Lauren Jarvise found herself to be ranked 18th individually in the entire state this year. When asked about what drives her to be better, Lauren said, "I strive to get better at golf because it is something I really enjoy doing, and I want to push myself to be the best I can be." eamwork makes the DREAMWORK. Delaney Shearan, one of the few seniors on the team, has now reached her very last year playing for Seton's successful volleyball program. Delaney comes from a family who has always admired the sport and grew up around it. She was introduced to volleyball at a very young age, but she officially began to play when she was in first grade. Throughout her years thus far, she has formed a special bond with her team and has taken on the role as a leader now that she has approached her last season. Delaney says, "I feel as if it is my duty to set an example to the other girls on the team and impart my experiences on them so that they can be successful and learn from my failures." Her main goal this season is to help her teammates become the leaders that they need to be for next year's volleyball season.

For the past two years, Amanda Barcello has been an integral piece of Seton's girls basketball team and this year is no different. This year Amanda is among the most experienced of the team, meaning that she must be a role model for her teammates. Stepping into this new role, she states: "I feel like this season, being one of the oldest on the team, I bring a lot of leadership, especially in being able to be there for the younger players ." Amanda explains that their game against Saguaro was a very intense game for her and all of her teammates. A new star had arisen on the opposing team and Barcello felt as if she and her team were fairly challenged during this game; however, they did pull off the win and she is proud of herself and her team. She looks forward to the next time they face Saguaro and hopes she and her team will be completely prepared. Amanda recognizes that winning isn't everything, and says that "The best advice that coach has given me is that it doesn't matter how many points you score; what matters is if you play your role, it will help the team reach their end goal."

Provinces, states and cities continued to implement strict measures to slow the spread of the virus. The movement, called "flatten the curve," prompted entertainment, and restaurant closures across the US and Canada. By Monday, all NBA, PGA, MLB, MLS, NASCAR, NHL, and NCAA sporting events were either cancelled or put on hold for two or more weeks. Some especially hard hit areas, including seven counties in California, put a three-week-long "Shelter in Place" home restriction on citizens, requiring they leave their homes only for essential needs.

To slow the virus' spread, the United States suspends all European travel for the next 30 days

The CDC suggests a community ban on all gatherings of more than 50 people for at least eight weeks.

The entirity of the Sentinel pep band, including some Sentinel alumni, line up in preparation for the big football game The senior leaders of the band, Cheyenne Nieto, Audrey Stevenson and Cara Self sort the members of the band into rows in order to produce optimal sound that projects to their audience . Both Cheyenne and Audrey have been active participants in the Sentinel band for all four years of their high school experience. They have been dedicated to make the Sentinel band better not only musically but also work to make the band more present at Sentinel events They appear at various Seton events , mainly at pep assemblies and football games Thanks to these two students Sentinel bands to come will have a bright future

Cheyenne Nieto is a xylophone player in the pep band ; however, her go-to instrument is the marimba because "it's a unique instrument and I love being able to play at several octaves " She describes her musical style as wild being that she is constantly "running across the room and hurdling chairs to get to the next instrument."

Audrey Stevenson is a trumpet player Her favorite thing about pep band is when the Sentinel band comes together at the conclusion of every football game to play the fight song She says that "whether we win or lose , it's a nice way to unite the school."

The Sentinel band continues to flourish keeping Audrey Stevenson's motto in mind, "where words fail, music speaks "

Q : What music courses have you taken at Seton?

A: I have taken Piano 1 and 1 am currently in Piano 2

Q: What's your favorite musical symbol (fermata, staccato, crescendo, etc .) and why?

A: I would say it depends on what song. All the notes have to be played in the appropriate way in order for the piece to sound how it should. When all the different styles of notes come together, it makes the music sound amazing .

Q: How would you describe your musical style? What kind of music is best representative of you?

A: 1 really enjoy playing more contemporary music. I love the classics too, but my favorite thing to do is try to recreate chords and melodies from popular songs that I enjoy in my everyday life Most of the songs that I choose to play will be from contemporary artists who have adapted piano versions of songs that have sheet music that I can learn from However, sometimes I just try to play the melody by ear.

Seton' newest faculty member include Mr Bonomo and Mr . Palanzo. They have both been welcomed into Seton' community becau e of their pa ion for reading and teaching literature.

Mr . Palanzo, a globetrotter, has pent her recent year. teaching at an English con er ation chool in Japan for a year and a half, but he didn't top there. She went on to Au tralia where he wa able to help the aboriginal health worker with constructing email and academic writing. Likewi e, Mrs. Bonomo has al o been working nationally. She recently ha been teaching in a public choollocated in the outhern part of Oregon. Mrs. Bonomo expressed her favorite parts of Seton aying,"I love how involved the parent are. I love that you guy are here for academic excellence. I love that I get to teach you at a higher level and that I can hold you to a higher tandard." The two of them hare a trong pa sion for literature and even have the arne kull itting in their rooms, alluding to Shakespeare.

Gianna Grijalva is a senior is Mr. Reardon's Honors Psychology class and she can't get enough of it. Gianna decided to take psychology at Seton because she would like to pursue a psychology degree in college. What Gianna loves to learn about most in the psychology field would have to be personality and how people develop certain charateristics However, Gianna is absolutely in love with psychology because they not only learn new concepts and ideas but they "do a lot of fun experiments." When asked what her favorite experiment was, Gianna responded, "My favorite experiment was the 'trust test' because you had to learn how to trust your partner and adapt". This trust test which Gianna is referring to is where students put on blindfold, hold a lengthy wooden stick in one hand, and try to find their way around campus. Students do not do this activity alone; they have a partner to keep them out of harm's way and guide them to their destination. Gianna has really enjoyed Honors Psychology and said, "I am so glad I took this class with Mr. Reardon because he is the funniest teacher."

Mrs. Silvas teaches a physical education class at Seton Catholic known as Body Sculpting. She began teaching the all-girls' class around four years ago, aiming to strengthen girls physically and mentally. Mrs. Silvas' goal, in particular, is to empower her students. "I hope that there is a transformation and mindshift that having a healthy lifestyle will benefit their purpose. The biggest thing I hope for is that young women realize their self-worth is not caught up in how they look, but more on how they feel." To help have her students feel their worth and confidence, Mrs. Silvas keeps up a great attitude and constantly fills her room with an unmatched energy. She says, "The happier I am, the more motivated I feel to experience life ... l feel like when life's problems are thrown my way, I immediately look for solutions, and dance and smile through the madness." When she isn't teaching at Seton, she trains people, having traveled to many countries - Dubai, Italy, and The Bahamas, to name a few - to give out the same message she gives to her students at Seton.

This year was the first year in which Seton held an allschool retreat. The Sentinel Summit 2020 retreat highlighted this school year's virture: courage. Multiple speakers came in to tell their personal story of courage The collection of speakers included novelist and muscian Amanda Vernon, former head football coach Coach Galante "Coach G" ., mother of twelve adopted children Kate Heursch, priest and professional speaker Father John Parks, and many others. Their goals were to inspire and encourage the Seton body. This was done hrough their personal stories of hardship and what courage means to them. In addition to these speakers, Mass was held before lunch, which was a wonderful way to set the tone for the latter part of the day. After lunch, there was a surprise appearance by members of lmprovMania. They picked random students from the crowd to go up on stage and prove their true improv skills, which was a perfect ending to an amazing day.

Some of Seton ' s very own students attended, as well as faculty , parents , and of course , the choir . For the serene event , Father Tim Seavey was the main Celebrator , leading everyone else in attendance in praise and worship. Father Tim thought fondly of the event , saying "It was an incredible experience I was thinking the whole time that this will hopefully be a great tradition at Seton in a few years ." He then states that the tone of the event was set for those in attendance " to create an encounter with Christ. I want everyone who participated in Radiate to feel the presence of God. " Radiate happened twice within the school year , and it will hopefully continue to thrive in years to come As Father Tim Seavey said, "It will lift the soul of anyone who comes "

Qn December 6, the entire Seton body gathered to celebrate one

of the most important figures in a Sentinel's life: mothers. The majority of the students have the opportunity to sit by mother during the duration of the Mass, and then spend more t1me w1th their mothers after, enjoying snacks and conversation in the quad. Many students immensely like the experience. Senior Ashley Eze recalls her experience, "It felt nice for me, personally, to have a wh_ole Mass dedicated to celebrating moms l enjoyed having my mom w1th me during Mass and seeing everyone else with moms as Eze then noted that the experience was extra spec1al for her, her mother has not been able to attend in the past. "My mom really enjoyed this Mass because she hadn't been able to attend the previous three Mothers' Masses but for my senior year, she made it a priority to attend she is a woman." No matter the experience, Set?n. is happy for everything mothers do and wants to show true apprec1at1on for them.

Kathleen ' s journey with God truly began when she was leaving the 7th grade. She attended a LifeTeen Camp in Georgia , where she began to take her faith to a new level. " I desired to go to EDGE nights at my church , become an altar server , and this has continued to form who I am today ." After taking her religion into her own hands, she began seeing more and more how God changed her life Going to church and praying daily became a part of her routine. Kathleen says that her favorite part about going to church is the Eucharist. "The Eucharist means everything to me and it's the way in which I am connected and united to Jesus and every other Catholic around the world." Attending church goes beyond faith and religion for her . Being a part of a community with the same values and virtues means a lot to her and she has met a lot of people who she now considers close friends through church. In Kathleen's eyes, the best part about being Catholic is knowing to whom you belong "It gives comfort to me and is the reason I know I am loved". Through the tough times she has faced, Kathleen has only been able to overcome adversity because of her faith God gives her the strength to make it and guides her She believes that the lows in her life have become the moments where she learns the most and is lead to a greater love for the Lord and the people around her. She couldn't be more grateful for her experiences and knowledge.

2019 Homecoming Week

eton's 2019 Homecoming football game was nothing like the rest. The theme was meant to be Hawaiian, but because of the hype surrounding the "Area 51 Raid," which was set for September 20, 2019, it turned into Hawaiians and aliens. To account for this new theme , Trevor Snedeker thought it would be fun to bring a huge blow-up alien to pump up the spirit. They named the alien Pedro. Senior Jennifer Osuna stated how "when the alien got there [to the game] the student section got hyped, and [the alien] helped Michael Dwyer lead the student section." However, the Area 51 Raid was not the only thing that made this game stand out from the rest. Another aspect that made this game fun for the students was bringing a speaker and playing energetic music. The students sang along to music as they cheered for their home team. This not only made the game more fun for the Red Zone, but also for the parents in the bleachers. Mrs. Kubasak noted how "As a parent and teacher, it was fun to see the students full of school spirit and having fun together It seemed like the music pulled them all together and there was more unified participation than other games. I also love the sign that says, 'If you don't cheer, go sit with your mom."' And to top off this exciting night, the Sentinels came out with a big win of 35-10 .

As Head Coach of Seton Cath ol ic's Girls' Basketball team, Coach Karen Self's tenure has changed Seton athletic s forever S1nce 1992 coach S e lf has helped Seton c apture 25 region titles and 11 state titles. Her talent in training athletes has earned her a spot as coach of the Girls West team at the All-American McDonald's game. "I was in shock and total disbelief," Coac h Self comments abo ut being selected. Am anda Barcello, who i: a major scorer on the varsity team, admires Coach Self because "she has been coaching

now for over 25 years an has so much experience and passion" for basketball "She has don so much for a n yone who has been aro u nd her program, and they would have been crazy not to choose her!" This year, Seton had their second annual Beautifully Rooted sophomore girls retreat. The goal of this retreat was to empower and inspire young Sentinel women to see the beauty within themselves and one another. More than forty sophomore girls were split up into small groups among the sixteen senior and junior leaders, where they were open and able to talk about their struggles, worries, and any concerns they had about high school. By the end of the night, through four student-led talks, a guest speaker, a guided meditation, and a few dance parties, the girls had formed and even rekindled friendships. They had a new sense of excitement and confidence and were looking forward to the rest of their high school careers.

Noah Udave wakes up and eats a somewhat healthy breakfast. Then he gets dressed for school and brushes his teeth and he's off to school!

Emma Riggle's morning routine consists of getting out of bed and getting dressed for school.

"Possibly eating breakfast and conversing with my parents before school." Finally, driving to school and running to class before the final bell.

Kendell Young's morning begins with her waking up. After a few minutes, she "yeets" out of bed. Later, she attempts to do her hair, which takes her about "15 million years."

Ashden Austin wakes up and rolls out of bed. He washes his face, gets dressed and eats breakfast. Then he brushes his teeth and combs his hair. After this, he gets driven to school for a fantastic day.

Antone De Luz starts his day waking up and getting ready in 15 minutes. Then he waits for mom and sister for an hour or so, until they're ready to go.

On October 4th, 2019, Amezcua, recollects a Madame Florence particularly warm memory Duviau passed away, of her late French joining God's angels in teacher. "One time she heaven. The 2020 Sentinel was created by the Publications Class and Publications Club at Seton Catholic Preparatory in Chandler , AZ The all-color pages were printed from a Kimori press on 1 00 # gloss paper by Jostens Inc . in Visalia , CA and Clarksville , TN. Cover is a custom litho design with SuperMatte lamination, UV clear coating (350) , and Blaze Red (369) patterned foil. Endsheets are custom print design on Snow White (280) transicolor stock with short-trimmed cut and Blaze Red (369) patterned foil edging. 650 total copies were produced

The book was created using Yearbook Avenue Page Designer, Adobe Photoshop CC 2019, Adobe Illustrator CC 2019, and Google Forms The theme of the yearbook was chosen by the 2019 staff Overseeing yearbook advisers are Mrs Melissa Tole and Ms. Stanci Snow. The colors used include VT Paprika, VT Summer, Grayscale 67 %, black, and white. Fonts include: the AYT Foundation Sans family in various point sizes, the A Yf Cheltenham family in various point sizes, and TifT.i.J.. in various point sizes.
