It is difficult, if not impossible , to transmit in words the sense of the man. He was truely "a man for all seasons". He was a profound thinker, a lover of people, a lonely man and a man of prayer. He stood apart in his courage to face unpopular regional and national social issues, yet he was very sensitive to the personal assaults directed at him . This personal pain not withstanding, he fought for the poor -for those without social or economic power to fight for themselves. Over all this, he loved his Church and truely tried to reflect the image of Christ in his ministry
Bishop Rausch began his ministry as a teacher in a secondary school. I can say with certitude that to his dying day he held that time in his life as being very special. His love and support for the schools in this diocese is well known by those close to him.
If one was to ask which of the schools held a special place in his loving concern and interest, it would be Seton Catholic in Chandler This is not fabricated for this yearbook, but real.
Bishop Rausch was a vital, profound man often misunderstood and disliked. However, one of the great treasures of my life is that he was my friend. He is one of your treasures too - now a loving friend with God
-John Flannery, O.P ."For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and melt into the sun? And what is it to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?
-Kahlil GibranMichael Fairbanks graduated from in 1979 after attending all four years of his high school career at Seton. He is remembered for his involvement in school life and the respect he gave to both faculty and peers. He died suddenly after a short illness on January 5, 1982.

The production was under the direction of Ms. Jill Marshall and featured a cast in the main parts as fol lows: LucyAnnette Azzie; Linus - Mark Hermosillo; SnoopyMolly Ryan; Marcy - Annette Fettig; Sally - Sharee Littleton; Pig Pen - Brian Grady; Vio let - Mary Katherine Fairbanks; Frieda - Debbie Eubanks. The second semester featured Mr. Paul Schulte who produced the Spring drama production.
Specific facts in science are interesting but are not the major purpose of science Science should be presented as an on-going, everchanging and selfcorrecting process. In biology the student receives a view of himself as a functioning unit in a set of nested systems where everything affects everything else. In chemistry our goal is to emphasize problem solving skills that will flow over into all aspects of a students development and life.
Math is a process skill which develops a students power to "think" and perceive the world in concrete and forms and answers as well as speculative probabilities. In the end, we join the educated process which empowers each student to develop his or her own gifts. Catholic education enables each of us to realize the source of our giftedness.
The Seton Sentinel football team was picked by most of the southeast Valley media to finish last in the North
Division, Class C. It was no surprise to Coach McCarthy's rookie team
that they finished fourth with a 3 win 5 loss record. Besides the Home-
28 coming victory over Grand Canyon, the biggest victory was the Sentinel's upset win over the Mayer Wildcats by a score of 32-22. It was due to first time senior players like Tony Lucas and an emerging sophomore squad
32 MAYER that the Sentinels look forward to next season and an AlA berth in the
playoffs
The Seton Varsity volleyball team had a winning season by defeating previously undefeated Southwest Indian and Scottsdale Christian The girls placed 3rd in varsity team conference play this year despite inexperience and reorganization The Seton girls fielded a young team this year and Coach Dreffs is expecting big things from next year's squad.
Pre-Game warmups
The Seton junior Varsity Volleyball team made its debut with a season of improvements. Only one player had any experience in the game before the season began. Seton highlight was a win over the Mayer Wildcats, a welcome victofor any Sentinel squad.
Seton's varsity had an outstanding season. The varsity, which had a record of 6 wins and 11 losses last year, completed the season with an overall record of 14 wins and 7 losses. The varsity finished second to state runner up, Maricopa, in league Play. Seton finished third in the Southwest Indian Invitational Christmas Tournament. Martin Contreras was an all tournament selection. Parents and students saw many exciting games this year including big wins over Maricopa, Salome, and Scottsdale Christian.
The girls basketball team finished a fine season with a 13-4 record and a first place finish in Class C North B division. left-right (first row) Tracie Palmer, Arleen Guevara, lisa Gummel, Molly Ryan, Suzi Rael, Renae Richardson, lois Hopkins, (second row) Tammie Palmer, Annmarie Arnone, Terri lopes, Theresa Martinez, liz Ryan, Donna Gutierrez, Ampy lee. "Congratulations for hard work, dedication, improvement, and sacrifice." Coach Dreffs

Seton had big victories over Salome and Scottsdale Christian. The biggest and most exciting victory was a double overtime victory over archrival Maricopa. The Junior Varsity's victories came from hard work and hustle.
The Seton baseball team opens its 1982 season optimistic it can better its third place finish from last year. With three returning infielders from last year and an emphasis on sound defense Seton could have one of the best infields in the conference. Seton returns David Walker at second base, John Pasakovic at first and Adam Mendoza at short stop. Paul Stoll, who played in the outfield last year, will move to third base. The Sentinels also are helped out by the addition of Mike Trevizo, a steady fielding Freshman who will play both short stop and second base. Coach McCarthy is also optimistic, that with steady improvement, Seton could have the best pitching in the conference. Seton returns only one starter from last year, Adam Mendoza, who could be the best pitcher in Class "C" if he continues to develop. The other two players expected to do most of the pitching are David Walker, and Mike Trevizo. Both are capable of throwing strikes consistently. Seton also returns their starting catcher from last year, Tony Lucus. Lucus, one of the only two seniors on the club, had taken on the role of the team leader and could also be the best catcher in the conference. In the outfield the Sentinels expect to start returning outfielders Paul Gummel and Jordan Killian is center field and right field. Left field is open to either Joe Cardinal or Greg Rodriquez, both Freshman.
Others on the team:
Neal O'hora-OF
Mike Lange-38
Pat Barret-28
Richard Chandler-OF
Don Llona-OF
Joe Grant-OF
The softball team has both an old and new story. The old part is 8 returning letter-winners from last years state runner's up team. The new part is 6 freshmen all of whom will see playing time during the season. The teams strength is defense and aggressive base running. If the teams hittin g continues to improve the Sentinals will have a very successful season.

THOMPSON, MICHAEL WALKER, DAWNEvery year Seton High School competes in the Arizona Model United Nations at the University of Arizona in Tucson The meeting is a symulation of the actual United Nations proceedings in New York. This year Seton will represent the Peoples Republic of China on Six different committees and also on the Security Council. Seton is very fortunate this year because for the first time they have been given a Security Council country Model U N. is an excellent program for teaching those students interested in how the United Nations works. The students also learn about the country they are representing
Seton students have been invited by the Close Up Foundation ' s government studies program to travel to Washington D . C. to examine first hand the workings of the federal government
Over the past 11 years Close Up has brought students and teachers to Washington for an intense week long look at the Workings of the federal government. Sr. Patricia led this year's group

The goal of campus ministry is to promote awareness of God and others. To sensitize students to the needs of others V'<ho suffer injustice in the world. The context of this ministry is done within the frame-work of the Catholic tradition. In this framework we hold that we bring Christ into the world and that this is done through good works for others.
